Haskins and Jones joint flip to OSU this morning according to 11w

It seems like basically every top player in the NorthEast/Mid-Atlantic chooses a B1G school ever since RU & Maryland joined the conference.

Too bad Haskins did not flip to Clemson or Florida St.

They are expected to announce it together.

Damn. 8 star flip. Ouch.

This makes all the sense in the world for Haskins. He's been dreaming of playing for OSU since he was a little kid. He'd go there and tour the football facilities as a youngster. He would talk about it all through his early high school years.

RU was a very very serious contender for him and damned near landed him. Certain very influential people in his life were all over him to come to RU. It was working... About the time of the spring game last year, I had advises from very solid, uniquely reliable (w/r/t Haskins), sources that he was a done deal to RU. There were other direct indications from Haskins himself at about the same time which I cannot post about here (having nothing to do with Twitter, in case you are wondering). This was exactly when the UA rumors began and everything changed, quite rapidly and dramatically in terms of Haskins's actions and the advises that were provided from those same close sources.

From the start, the whole Haskins to Maryland notion felt like, and was, dirty pool. I was pretty surprised and disappointed with how that all went down and I was sure it was not going to end well for UMD or maybe even DH.

For this reason, I am very glad to see he will be fulfilling his lifelong dream of playing at OSU, a decision the young man was able to make for himself free from the pressures of friends or family or other seedy commercial interests. Kudos to him. I'll enjoy watching him play on a big stage there, where his heart always was.

If he was a "done deal" to Rutgers before the Under Armor thing came, why isn't he considering us anymore? What changed?

Your guess is as good as mine. With the changes at UMD and RU, I would assume he had himself a moment of clarity, if you will. If he came to RU, it was to please some of his close friends...that's how it always felt to me. He belongs at OSU, and I think he realizes that.

If given the right opportunity, elite recruits will play for elite teams and schools like Maryland and Rutgers simply can't compete .The recruit names change each year but not the perception.

It should be noted ,however, that Maryland is viewed very highly in mens and womens basketball and some other sports that don't receive much public notice.

I hate to see this. I want Maryland to be good. I want Rutgers to be good. I want both RU and MD to compete with OSU.

I guess I will not be following BIG next year since this is a crap football conference.

Who is your team/conf?

Just some conspiracy theory dreamt up by some people here to explain how we could possibly lose a four star recruit.
why do you assume everything you don't believe is a conspiracy theory? This rumor wasn't started because of some random tweet or message board story. It came directly from quotes and conversations with recruits and people who personally know the kid. Could it all be false? of course but the sources were legit and there was no reason or benefit for them to make it up. In fact, it would actually hurt them if it was false. Assume you think the JG and Gary stories are false as well?

Same story every year. Players commit to lock down a scholarship, then the big boys jump in the last 2 weeks to take away the players that had the best years. I drive myself crazy with all the recruiting news, the fact is, like so many people here say, nothing means anything until signing day. I am better off only checking out recruiting news that day.

All signs point to them both flipping, but hasn't hsppened yet. Looks like MAryland coaches showed up this morning to try and chnage his mind. Word is Urban is flying in for a persnal home visit this afternoon.

In the meantime 4 star Binjimen Victor committed to tOSU.

Joint annoucement expected at 4 pm by Haskins and Jones. Haskins has allegedly been a silent commit for weeks and Terp fans are upset that he was supposedly recruiting for them up until most recently and leading them on and now they are questioning his character. This sounds familiar when the story came out about Haskins visiting RU seemingly interested just to find out he was using the visit to recruit players to MD.

So, this is good for Rutgers because we realize that we will never compete against the top team in our division and now the team we are competing for as a perennial bottom feeder has two less good recruits, correct? Therefore, we now can move past Maryland and out of last place and start to look to compete with Indiana, is that also correct? Never mind Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State, are they also forever unattainable? Just trying to find out why some of our loyal fans are so happy today to hear the news that the best team in the division just got even better for the next 4 or 5 years. I was under the impression that they were our main competition to get to the B1G title game in the next 3-5 years, I guess for some on this board that is an unrealistic pipe dream.

You must be a a penn State fan. Penn State, Maryland and Rutgers are battling for the next tier and it might take 5-10 years to get to the next level.

That is a defeatist attitude and that was the exact point of my post.

This is good for RU because it helps with Odin. We are not competing against OSU at this point, nobody is except for Michigan.

It's good because OSU was Gina get a stud regardless.....Maryland not so much. Also JT has two more years before Haskins even sees the field.

It's a realist attitude. On what planet are we competing with OSU right now? You can pretend if you want, but you'll be disappointed every time. I'll stick with realistic goals.

I am not talking about right now, I am talking about 3-5 years from now. Who cares if Maryland has a few four star athletes if the rest of the team stinks. What we don't need is the division champ getting stronger.

This doesn't apply to Haskins. He is stud. Teams hold scholarships for him until he decides where he wants go.

Agree on the recruiting thing. Things constantly change now. Just let me know when signing day is here.

No coincidence. It's clearly one of the main reasons both teams were invited to the conference.

But it really isn't like NJ kids didn't flock to B1G schools in the past. I think the only difference now is more of them seem to be choosing B1G schools over ACC ones.

Ohio State is losing what, 11/14 undergrads to the NFL? Ash, is our Head Coach, we have their Fitness Coach as well, throw in a Student Advisor/Coordinator, and you have basically another Div. I team starting over. Of course they are still Ohio State, and still one of the top Coaches in the country, but still reloading. This is the exact time teams can overcome perceptions, and climb into that tier, you mentioned. Now, Rutgers is also going through a transition, but ours is ^^^^. Ohio State is not, equal at best. So, I like where that bottom tier is heading. And, "disappointed" comes with a presumption of hope, and goals. I would rather have those things, than ambiguity or ambivalence. My path is clear, or should I say, Rutgers Football program is'.

Tell that to Alabama who just lost a commit to Mississippi St. You know that Alabama.

So you have us competing for division championship in 3 to 5? Like I said, recipe for disappointment. One step at a time: Our equals not getting this talent is a good thing. We can worry about OSU, which is getting this talent one way or another, when we're anywhere close.
