I still think Hobbs should not have gone on the court to celebrate with SHU

How about when Stringer sat with John Chaney, during a home game against Temple,
to me THAT was a slap in the face.

What seems to be lost here is people in the business, coaches and administrators are often friends, you can have friendly personal relationships and still be rivals. It not like you have to hate someone to be rivals and compete against one another. On the other hand there are people in the business that do really dislike each other. It's a very individual thing.

Pat is a SHU alumnus and taught at the school for 2 decades.

He hired Kevin Willard and Pat Lyons (and remains friends).

He took over a complete mess and 6 years later SHU wins the BET, has very good basketball facilities and a budget consistent with the F5 (all of which he should be proud).

Pat has literally hundreds of SHU alumni as friends.

I'm sure that he was invited by SHU to attend the game. Is it strange that he attended and rooted/celebrated with the community?

If there was an important RU athletic event on Saturday he doubtless would have been in attendance. No one works harder than Pat and his commitment/loyalty to RU is 100%. If you think otherwise then it can only mean that you don't know him or that you have an agenda.

I can't wait to see this board if Hurley is hired!

Rutgers plays Seton Hall once a year and hopefully in the near future beating them every time they meet in the NCAA Tourney.
Except those games, Hobbs should be able to root for a school he has worked for and is an Alumni of.
As long as Hobbs does everything he can to make Rutgers Athletics the best it can be, he shouldn't be deprived of rooting for a school that isn't playing Rutgers at the time and helping them celebrate a big victory that he might be considered to have had a hand in making that win possible.

Let the man enjoy himself ,as long as it doesn't hurt Rutgers.

I am a casual basketball fan at best. It is a fair criticism to say that our AD should have been at our conference tournament.

Seton Hall is closer to irrelevant than a nemesis. Sure their hoops program is worlds better than ours at the moment. In the overall scheme of things, with time, they are going to more like Princeton than Penn State in terms of any rivalry.
Too funny. You haven't been out nemesis in 30 years! Enjoy the basement!

Hobbs has long lasting relationships, clearly. I like guys like that. It says a lot about their character and personality.

I just don't see Shu as a rival anymore. Said it in another thread. It's all about Rutgers. If the next coach does what he should do, we won't be competing with them. We have much bigger fish to fry, in a much different league, against a much different peer group. It's the same as Syracuse in football.

Good for Shu and whatever they do should have no effect on Rutgers.
Seton Hall doesn't see you as a rival either

We had an assistant coach in the Bannon era - I forget his name - but he was a mole for Mulcahy. When BC won the BET in the late 90's - he was on the court celebrating with them - as he had connections with Skinner and BC if I recall. I thought it was strange; I think what Hobbs did was strange as well. As an AD at another school, celebrate and congratulate in private. Would Tom Coughlin jump on the field next year if the Giants won the SB because he hired McAdoo and coached all these players? Did Parcells jump on the field and congratulate Belichik (given their history) or congratulate Coughlin - both former disciples? The answer is NO. Do it in private. Just my 2 cents.
