If we go the assistant route ...

I say Rutgers needs a experienced head coach with a proven record of success against top competition. The issue always is money and what Rutgers can afford and attract.

We need a proven winner. Hoops in far worse shape than football.

Head coach and total staff assembled is what will get RU to .500 or better. Cannot roll the dice on a first time head coach.....have to get the "bridge" coach that can do 2 things.....1) get RU respectable in the fastest amount of time and playing solid basketball.....2) regain credibility in conference by not getting buried by 20+ points and showing the program is on the uptick, which will attract recruit.....this with the right coach, can get the RAC almost full, which would be worth 2 to 3 games a year as home court advantage.

Once 5 years from now passes, our "problems" should be the ability to get over the hump of 18 wins....meaning the floor should be .500 by Year 2 and program should be hovering between 15 to 19 wins a season. The fastest way that happens is hiring the most qualified college coach currently available and that's Sendek.....he can assemble and put a staff together and isn't the flashy coach, but we are in an elite conference with no easy games anywhere. This isn't the old Big East or AAC.....

This is a layup of an hire, it's not even funny....

Tom Izzo have any assistants ready to be head coach?

Dwayne Stephens is someone I thought about from Izzo's staff.
But the more I think about it, the more staying an assistant for 13 years stands out.
Even if he's one of the top recruiters, Dwayne probably wouldn't be the answer.
Rutgers needs someone with HCing experience along with being a good recruiter
to make something out of the mess RU MBB is now and has been for a long time.

Agree with everything you say except the Big East was the elite basketball conference in the country.
