My understanding is that CBS sets the game times (into the pre-determined slots). They wanted those two games in the exclusive windows, regardless of where in the country they are played. One of the benefits of the ridiculous $$$ they pay.

You know the answer. Pike mostly recruits top athletes for solid D, not top-talent players for O. Watching all these games, it’s depressing to see multiple better shooters and better bigs on every team. cliff can’t hold a candle to any of them on O, not a single one. Cliff can’t even take a single dribble or make even one good pass.
