You can view Mickey how you want. I view him as someone who time after time puts us in more positions that hurt the team than help on the field. In the clubhouse he seems like a great guy and that might be more important.

We’d probably be in the top wildcard spot right now without Mickey. He’s cost us several games but at least now the team is winning despite him.

Nothing but complaining. Backups and Mickey suck. But 12-1 in last 13 games and 18-6 (or is it 19-6) since All Star break. Who gets credit for that?

The players themselves. And it looks like the coaches are helping(Davis and the Old man lol) but if MC was behind hiring both, he gets credit. But Met pitchers have turned a major corner since we switched pitching coaches and I have not seen a team of Met's be consistently clutch for such a long period of time. Think about if Cano didn't get hurt. We would be fielding an entire team with 10+ HR and all batting over .240 - sounds like no big deal but over the past few years, that would be our 3/4/5 hitters. lol

Would have the top wildcard if not for the bullpen.

Would also have first place in the NL East with a 68-46 record (less than half of their 2019 blown saves) if not for the bullpen.

Big game for Matz tonight. If there were ever a time for him to turn his career towards the direction of a legit major league starter this is it.
I hope he proves me wrong today but he has been the weak link of the rotation since hes been in the majors. Get through the first and he should be fine.

No but Cabrera and Duda aren’t answers either.
Yes please... Stop with this Cabrera stuff. The whole logjam started when
- BVW tried to trade McNeil depsite good first year
- BVW got his boy Cano to NY, moving McNeil to the OF
- BVW singed his other boy Jed Lowrie to make sure McNeil stays in the OF

Cream rose to the top as McNeil is proving that his first season was not a fluke, despite BVW. Keep McNeil at 2B try to find an OFer for depth or a reliver or 2 with an ERA smaller than his shoe size.

The GM's of Atlanta and Washington seem to disagree. I would take either of those guys off the bench right now compared to what we have. Vets who have been proven MLB players with pennant race experience. I would be more inclined to agree with you if you could make waiver trades but this type of player is all that is going to be available down the stretch.

But I know more than the Atlanta and Washington GMs combined!

I don't know how close it came to actually happening, but could you imagine if we traded McNeil and he was batting .340 in Milwaukee or something?

If we are looking for strictly pinch hit options I'm cool just waiting for Dom Smith.

If we are looking for options we can actually put in the field, I'm happy with Hech and Guillorme.

If the rumors at the time were true Seattle wanted him in the Cano deal. Imagine that. At least BVW had the sense to keep him out of that deal.

Hech and Guillorme can certainly pick it. My problem is more I do not like the 4 man bench. We have been winning games right now by a few runs but who is going to pinch hit in a big spot late? You drop a pitcher, add a vet bat until Smith returns (which may not be until September) and at least you have someone you can go to in a big spot late in a tight game.

I love the way Wheels and Thor are actually pitching now instead of just max effort throwing. Their strikeouts are down but they can go deeper into games by putting the ball in play.

The SNY blog explores options:
https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/scouts...up-scenarios-with-robinson-cano-out/309750434

They like McNeil in the outfield.
They say "perhaps" Guillorme should get playing time.
They suggest promoting Dilson Herrera or Ruben Tejada.
Would send Hech away for one of the above two and see how it works out.

Ah, so BVW wasn't actually trying to trade him then? Only that other teams were interested? I mean if he didn't think he was a player he easily could have thrown him in on that deal.

Now just to dabble with the hypothetical of if BVW did trade him, a)McNeil is such a big part of this team that I don't think we'd be on this run now if he were not here, but b)let's just say we traded him and we were still somehow decent. With Cano out, and overall pretty awful this year, Famillia awful, Diaz awful, Lowrie non existent, I think you could make a case for firing BVW after one season even if we made the playoffs. Because we are being carried by players who BVW had no part of bringing in. Winning very much in spite of his moves thus far.

To temper that a little, it's kind of hard to pin Diaz on him, (familia and Cano on the other hand....) and I like the Stroman trade, and yes the Wheeler non trade, and in general I like his aggressiveness, so I'm optimistic his moves going fwd will be significantly better.

But it is interesting how bad his moves were this offseason, and the thought of him perhaps having McNeil on the block is comical.

Are we handing out partial credit for streaks? As to the overall picture, the Mets are done with 70% of the season, are 2 games over .500 and would go home if the season ended now.

Streaks are an interesting thing. They all end. Then we'll see. But the significant problems that existed for all but the last 13 of the team's 114 games didn't just disappear forever.

Maybe 18-6 or 19-6 post All Star Break is more than a streak.
Starting pitching stepped up after the old man took charge. And the batting post All Star break from the core of the offense has been sub par.
Time will tell whether this team will make the post season.

OK but season is 162 games and does have streaks- maybe we take out their losing streak too...I don't know if it keeps going but lets enjoy a season that just gave us a breath of fresh air.

1.5 and that's no jive. They can all feel us coming up from behind like Usain Bolt running the curve in the 200 meters.

According to the beats the original deal had McNeil in it but the fan cry to the rumors made him re-work the deal. Believe it if you want.

Anyway let's get the 4 game sweep this afternoon and keep applying the pressure!!! Day off tomorrow to rest so we should have Wilson, Diaz, and Lugo available if need be. Conforto and Rosario back in the lineup with Alonso, McNeil, and Davis. I think I would have started LG and given Hech the day off but all in all not a big deal on that one.

Oh I'm enjoying it. Watch every night now.

But if we start talking about crediting the manager or dingbat GM, that's a different thing.

Day off tomorrow so expecting MC to sit McNeil, Alonso, Davis and Ramos...
No F-g idea why he thought Rosario and conforto needed a rest...

Everybody needs a rest. It's a long season (a marathon) and it's the dog days of August. And Cohen pointed out last night per the manager commencing Friday it's pretty much a sprint to the finish. I'd rather give guys a blow now against the Marlins then have them looking dog tired in games vs the Braves, Phils or Nats next month.

Correct, you have no idea...I bet he has a slightly better idea why. Oh look, Matz 1-2-3 and Alonso another HR...lets freaking enjoy this!
