OT: 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Generally my thoughts as well. Not very exciting.

Nominated but not included are Pat Benetar, Soundgarden, DMB, Motorhead, Judas Priest and Kraftwerk....

Can we just get rid of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already? No one cares anymore. And, you can see how desperate they are by nominating people like Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G. Yeah -- they were Rock and Roll. Sure.

A "Hall of Fame" is the most "un-Rock and Roll" thing I can think of.

It became the music hall of fame a long time ago so as far as this list goes I get including both Whitney and Biggie.

T-Rex? NIN?

They lost their identity many years ago.

They also don't know what Rock music is.

That said, getting upset about at this point is pointless.

I am always disappointed however.

Worst group ever

So they say fu to Benetar Matthews and Soundgarden with the fan vote which just became irrelevant and meaningless and why....because they need to put in 2 artists who dont belong but will make the optics of being inclusive look good

Sorry but Notorious BIG and Whitney dont belong

So basically that random museum in Cleveland announced their annual exhibit and sales of their pre-exhibit dinner tickets? Yawn...

Notorious BIG over Pat Benatar/Neil Giraldo, Soundgarden, Motorhead and Judas Priest:

Iim a fan of the doobie bros going back to their guest appearance on What's Happening but Whitney had a much more powerful influence on music and culture than anyone on this list. I don't get why people can't get past the R&R name and accept other styles of music. from the actual hall website: Honoring bands or solo artists which demonstrate musical excellence. Such a descriptor includes (but isn't limited to) influence on other performers or genres; length and depth of career and catalog; stylistic innovations; or superior technique and skills.

You beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. Stop caring about the name of the building. We all know it's the Music Hall of Fame. And I know a lot of people here don't like rap, but I would say the same is true of Biggie. Not to the extent that Whitney did, but he influenced his genre in a much larger way than many of the rock acts listed.

Then why not just change the name to music hall of fame and be done with it ?

T-Rex? Nine Inch Nails?

They are at the point now where they are just inducting bands so they have an excuse to round out an induction ceremony.

And if it's going to be a "Music" hall of fame (and I agree that it is, and it should be) how are persons/bands like Jimmy Buffett, Dick Dale and Willie Nelson not members?

I don't disagree with this sentiment at all.
Then how would people like Bac to the RAc be able to insinuate that they just want to put black people in to make themselves look good?

I have no issues with black artists in the Hall because many of them are directly related to the emergence of rock and roll and later inductees played in a significant role as influencers in culture of music...ie Supremes

Whitney Houston music isnt like Janets or Michael Jackson. Thats my issue here. So Diana Ross in as a Supreme but not solo. It would seem her influence has been far greater than Ms Whitney

Whitney over Pat Benetar...lmfao what a joke

Biggy? That is not rock or pop. It doesnt belong not to mention only 2 releases

Trex doesn't belong

Nine Inch Nails...yes

And the Depeche Mode inclusion is the best decision they made

It needs to be renamed: The Rock & Pop Hall of Popular.

I have no problem with re-naming it.

That said- Biggie Smalls has had a bigger impact on his genre than Judas Priest/Motorhead had on theirs? Really???!!! Try and find a metal band in the last 30 years that does not list either/both of these bands as key influences.

And don't get me started with Pat Benatar's influence

B.I.G. had two albums before he died. is LL Cool J in there? or even Snoop?
LL has been around forever. His reputation within the hip hop community is pristine. but...for cultural and musical impact, Biggie's 2 albums and countless collaborations with Bad Boy artists (and his beef with Tupac) were extremely influential in bringing hip hop from just being a niche genre into the predominant pop music of the following 20 years and beyond.

I posted this on the R n R board this morning:

To the Governing Board of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:
Today. Jan. 15, 2020 the entire Russian government resigned...at Putin's "request" : > ) ? !
I suggest the entire Rock and Roll Hall of Fame governing board / election committee follows Russia's lead !

Do the right thing and end this travesty: No Todd...Not Interested ~

Question... is Metal music? Just asking, cause Ozzie, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Slayer are absolute legends in their field and have influenced countless artists over 4 decades and a full catalog of music. I get Sabbath finally got in, but EVERY metal artist lists Ozzie as an influence and his solo catalog in some ways is as popular as his legacy band.

But we at the Hall don't get or like Metal music.

Depeche Mode and Whitney deserve to be there.

They'd be better served being acquired by the folks who franchise all the Ripley's Believe it Or Not "museums" considering they've got the same level of music credibility.

I would put them all in over every one of this year's class. metal is a form of rock. I get the argument to change the name to music hall of fame, but so many the "non-rock" entrants aren't even that "famous".

btw, If Janet Jackson is in, Whitney Houston HAS to be in.

Notorious B.I.G. is rock n' roll. Gangsta rap is rock n' roll. It's rebellious. It's dirty. It rages against the system. It speaks to those who are lost or angry or just wanna party. It pisses off parents. It's every bit as rock n' roll as punk or metal or Led Zeppelin. Real rock n' roll.

I don't get how people can't see that.

I also don't get why anyone needs to be memorialized in a museum for this. That's not what rock n' roll is.
