OT: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

I think one of the most underrated and under appreciated rock bands that has been overlooked by the R&RHOF is Little Feat. With their eclectic mix of rock, country, blues, jazz fusion , a very unique band. Back in the 1970s, they had the distinction of being the favorite band of both Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers Band.

100%. Most underrated band ever IMO.

So let's just say you had to let one in but not the other. Who you picking ? Personally, I'd go Maiden and i like JP more. Just think Maiden surpassed Priest over time.
I'm not huge fans of either, but I would have a hard time leaving one out and not the other. Actually, Judas Priest had more "hits" than Maiden, didn't they, so on that dumb criteria, they "should" be in.
Loved them both but neither are HOF. Sabbath/ Metallica are the bands to compare to
Bite your tongue. Huge Metallica fan too.
The real crime is that Motorhead has not been considered (I think).

Never cared much for Sabbath. Frankly I think they suck. They suck live I'll tell you that much. Quiet Riot blew them off the stage back in Nov of '83 at the Spectrum. Overrated band. Priest and Maiden both way better but to each his own. I can't think of one BS song I wanna hear. War pigs. Yeah right. Heard that a million times.

Metallica'a ok. Saw them open for Twisted Sister at the Fountain Casino back in Dec of '83. My sister worked there, she got a co-worker to let me in a back door.

They are phenomenal. I’ve always felt that Little Feat and Faces are two of the most underrated bands of all time. Yes, I know Faces finally got in to HOF 10 years ago but it took way too long in my opinion. And when it comes to “classic rock” stations the only Faces song you’ll hear (and it’s a good one) is Stay With Me.

I am also a fan of Maiden and JP as well but they just don’t jump at me. Sabbath is borderline. Metallica May not be everyone’s cup of tea but it would be impossible to not have them in the HOF.
love Twisted Sister- had the chance to see them a number of times in small venues and clubs when they were just breaking onto the scene.

Still think it's criminal that Minnie Riperton isn't part of this conversation!

Even Dolly Parton herself doesn't think she belongs in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

Harry Belafonte - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?????

Maiden is the better band between the two.

But both are Metal Gods
I agree. Especially because, IMO, Priest hasn’t made a decent album in 30 years. No doubt Maiden had their own blip when Bruce and Adrian left (BB - yikes). But since their grand return in 2000, the band had continued to be relevant and put out excellent stuff to this day.

But, back in the day, these guys were neck and neck. In as much as you want to give credence to this weird “Rock” HOF, Priest deserves the nod to go in first.

Bac approves. Yea to Pat Benetar, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, and Carly Simon

Carly has written some killer songs: You're So Vain....

And very EASY on the eyes!!!

Well that's the way I always heard it should be!

My late wife and I sat opposite Annie Lennox @ 1992 MTV awards (UCLA).+1

Benetar has great voice...+1

M/M, Priest and Duran Duran (except when interrogating Fonda in Barbarella): pass.

MO
PS we saw Sally Taylor(Carly and James' daughter) at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano: very tough acts to follow.

Redeemer of Souls is a great album. One of my favorites. I like both bands and hate this "Priest vs Maiden" BS. They're both great bands.

Hard to argue with a dude has Eddie in his Avatar, but IMO, Judas Priest has had more mainstream success than Maiden, and the HOF being what it is, puts Priest in ahead of Maiden. Priest has sold over 50 million albums, and they had more radio airplay than Maiden.

IMO, Maiden is more of a cult band like Rush or Tool, and there is nothing wrong with that. After typing that, I see they have sold over 200 million albums, so maybe I should just shut up.

Maiden did not become really successful until Dickinson joined in 1982. Priest started in 1969.

I did not mean this to come off as a slap against Maiden. They deserve to be in too. They are like Coke/Pepsi of British metal bands. Both solid, and many fans have a strong preference.

BTW, Firepower is a pretty solid album.

Yup, it is. You are absolutely right - my bad on that.

I grew up listening to both. I love them both. Priest doesn’t need to apologize to anyone about anything. They are all time greats - Metal Gods.

I remember when they toured together in the early 1980s. I had not yet gotten into metal, but I know several people who went. Those must have been some pretty epic shows.

Yeah, I was way too aggressive there.

Judas Priest deserves HOF status before Maiden, hands down. In fact, I think they deserved to be in way before any other Heavy Metal bands, other than Sabbath. They are that good, they are that important.

While we are talking about overlooked hard rock/metal bands. Why not the Scorpions?
Over 100 million albums sold. Started in 1969. Major hits in the 1980s and 1990s. Just released a solid album.
I celebrate their entire catalog.

Another of my favorites. I’m pretty sure I wore out my Blackout cassette. On a family trip to Mytle Beach, my dad let my sister and I swap tapes for the drives. I must have played that whole album at least 20 times on that trip, lol. My sister paid me back with her Police collection. The adults must have been thrilled, haha.

Speaking of them. They are at Madison Square Garden tomorrow for a one-off show before they head back to Europe for the Golden Jubilee Bangladesh Concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh. I just grabbed fantastic seats in section 106 on the side of the stage 5 rows up. I am so stoked.

I truly do celebrate their entire catalog. Virgin Killer is a great album. Blackout, Love at First Sting established them as a huge success. I saw them at the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1984 with a little known Bon Jovi as the opening band. We had tickets on the floor. My ears were ringing for over a week after the show.

Scorpions show was absolutely fantastic last night. Lots of video clips in the link below-but the story is wrong about them playing Still Loving You--that was not played, unfortunately.

And here's what the Metal God had to say about them not being in:

Rolling Stones: What other metal bands do you hope to see get into the Hall of Fame in the future? The Iron Maiden fans are quite crazed about them not getting in yet.

Rob Halford: That would be my first shout-out. Motörhead deserve to be in, even posthumously. Are Scorpions in?

Rolling Stone: Nope.

Rob Halford: Well, Scorpions … and I don’t want to get into the differences between metal and hard rock. As far as I feel, it’s who deserves. And I’d have to have a think on others.

Saw Priest/Maiden at MSG during the S4V tour. My first concert. Wasn't really much of a Maiden fan then. I recall KK Downing tripping down a few steps ( and getting really pissed as a result) and the NJ Transit train breaking down on the way in causing us to be a bit late. Think we got there halfway through Maiden's set but my memory is fuzzy frankly.
