Aaaahhh the offseason. Where dreamer and cynic unite to agree - next year is our year!

The regular season is also considered the off season for the Jets.

Shame Woody the clown already guaranteed the return of Saleh as there are several terrific HC Candidates including Harbaugh / Vrabel etc. Would even consider Carroll but no way he comes back to the clown show called the Jets.

Mike McCarthy may also be available if Cowboys lose today to Packers.

Don't blame Woody. He brought in Aaron Rodgers to make these personnel decisions, and will not interfere.

It’s best when Woody stays clear and doesn’t listen to fans . I didn’t think Saleh and Douglas should be fired. Obviously having Rodgers supporting helps. If the playoffs don’t happen next season, it will be blown up.

They should be gone!! Terrible coaching by Saleh. The drafting of Zach Wilson alone is reason to get rid of Douglas. Rogers is so clearly calling the shots.

The Jets certainly were not the only organization that wanted to draft Wilson. The 49ers had moved way up to #3 that year and would have taken him if the Jets didn’t . Drafting a QB is a crap shoot. There will be at least 4 or 5 QBs very hyped in the 2024 draft. About 3 or 4 years from now, maybe 1 of them will be a high end NFL starter.

Douglas is a failure as GM, he's been here for 4 drafts and they still have the league's worst offense. They have no line, 1 WR, 1 RB and a very old QB. They have no present and a 1 year window.

One of the announcers today made a great point: In evaluating a head coach, ask yourself this question - "If he were fired, would someone else hire him?"

In Saleh's case, I doubt that it is necessary to ask the question.

He'd be hired as a DC for sure. McCarthy would be hired by no one.

Many want to blow up everything too quickly. Douglas drafted the offensive and defensive rookies of the year last year. Do you think that is a bad thing? The tendency of NY Jet fans to focus on the negative is astounding. They need to upgrade the OL , they need another legit WR and a TE. The defense is close to championship level. Yeah , let’s fire everyone and start over and have another 3-4 year rebuild. Rinse and repeat. Astonishingly dim.

Jets rumored to be signing Tyron Smith.

The Taylor, Moses and Smith moves are outstanding work by Douglas.

Smith was good but he's over the hill and breaking down - just the kind of player the Jets specialize in.

Where did you see this? Would be a good move. Would allow the Jets to be flexible with the 1st round pick

He’s a multiple pro bowl player and is 33. He has missed games, the Jets will pick an OT at #10 in the draft to give them depth and youth.

You are half right. He is old and misses too many games, but he is far from over the hill. His protection stats when does play are still elite.

That's what happens - healing takes longer and games get missed.
OL is the most injured position because guys get run-up from behind by their own guys.

In the 13 games he played in this season, he was the 2nd best LT at pressure rate (3.36%), and 2nd best LT at sack/hit rate (0.36). He only allowed one sack and one QB hit all year.

His play is so far advanced over the absolute disasters they were rolling out at LT last year that even getting a dozen games out of him would have a huge impact.

They still need to draft an OT, but this has been a very good week for them.

Aaron Rodgers had great career stats as well.
This kind of pick-up is what Jets do:
Brett "INT Favre, Ronnie Lott, LaDainian Tomlinson, Ed Reed, Ty Law, Jason Taylor, Art Monk - Jets should have their own "pre-retired" wing in the HOF

Even with the signing, that 1st round pick should be another OL. That line was brutal last season.

A lot of poor analogies there. As I pointed out, Smith gets hurt because he is old, but he is far from washed up like many of the players you listed were.

He was a very skilled player on HOF level.
But he missed a lot of games the last few.
Any other team I would think "ok ..roll the dice."
But Jets just get so many of these types.

"The addition of Smith comes with risk. Though he's one of the league's most decorated linemen, he also has a durability question. He has missed 33 games in the past four seasons."

That's over 8 games a season

Even if he misses 8 games that means they still get 9 games of elite level LT play from him (and it only cost them $$$), and will hopefully have drafted a young highly regarded tackle to be the backup.

Last season they were working with basement level LT play the whole year.

Drafting an OT at 10 would be a good move for the future, and may be fact be Douglas' preference.

However, I think Douglas will be overruled by the Jets President of Football Operations and Chief Medical Officer, who doesn't give a crap about the future. He will direct Douglas to draft a topflight WR, or maybe the flex TE Bowers.

That is, unless he decides to run for VP instead.

It’s possible that they could do that, however, I think they will go with an OL. The kid from Oregon St rates very high as a projected guard but played tackle in college. He could play either similar to AVT.
