OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

Besides not making the effort to have a decent closer on the roster the thing that is really baffling/frustrating is why are Cashman & Boone so attached to Verdugo rather than going with Dominguez?

Bad news for the Cubs series is with Gil and Schmidt going...limiting pitch count...bullpen is gonna get a workout

Gil pitched great, 6 innings with just 1 hit. Cousins, Kahnle and Weaver all pitch just a inning a piece and they all struck out 2 each.

When Weaver walked one guy with two outs in the ninth and then went to full count on the next guy, I did get a little nervous.

Two straight shutouts for the Yanks in Chicago. The pressure is now on Cole for the clean sweep.
BTW, the Cubs had won 10 of their last 13 prior to the Yankees coming to town.

Nestor making public comment that he's pissed Boone used him as a reliever on Saturday.

Dude, you're record is 9-10 and you're upset?

I think it goes back to the fact that his name was tossed around as trade bait at the deadline had Cashman traded for Flaherty.

What's funny is that he pitched his ass off today. Maybe he needs to get fired up more often to get more respect.

I think some of the starters, maybe all, are just ticked off with the 21 blown saves by NYY relievers this season.

Hell, I would be too.

I'm certain of one thing, Gleyber won't need a trophy case for his Gold Glove awards.
After watching him play second base all year, it's amazing to remember that it wasn't too long ago that they tried him at shortstop.

Between Gleyber at second base and Holmes as closer...NYY have one of the best records in MLB and yet also have the two worst players at their respective slots in the lineup.

Holmes....LOL

I'd seriously consider leaving him off the post season roster.
I can't believe Boone. He takes closing away
from Holmes because of the pressure. So he
brings him in when we just pulled ahead 2-1.
Another pressure situaton for him. He should
be using him when we are losing or winning
by a large margin, giving him a chance to get his ship together. Now we are losing again.

I really hate the extra inning rule... I'm glad that they were able to tie it up though.

That rule really needs to be changed.

Good assessment.

It was basically a "save situation" in the 7th inning and he failed again.

Should be called as a blown save.
Holmes is mentally broken.

I was surprised last night they said scoring percentage is only 61% in those situations, this year.

It really comes down to where in the lineup the 10th inning starts.
Last evening, I thought the Royals had the advantage. It was huge that Volpe was running from second base.

Once it got to the 11th, the NYY had the edge based on where the batting order was.

Quite possibly borrowed it from softball.

International Tie Breaker Rule- Fast-Pitch Softball
When a softball game is tied at the end of seven innings, the International Tie Breaker rule goes into
effect. At the start of each inning, a runner is placed on second base- the runner will be the last batter
scheduled to bat in this inning. Any eligible player may be substituted for this runner. At least one full
inning is played, allowing each team the same chance to score. If the score remains tied, the same
process is used in each inning until a victor emerges (one team scores more runs than the other at the
end of a complete inning).

Goes back to fundamentals -- bunting the runner over, hitting behind the runner, etc.

Watched game on MLB Network and they mentioned Holmes was booed when he entered the game.

He has the look of a guy with zero confidence.
Even though he got the two outs, he was facing the bottom of the lineup.

Small victories, I guess.

On Fox John Smoltz kept talking about how great Holmes' stuff was. And that his current problems must be mental.

How many were wondering what was wrong with Judge and when he was gonna hit another home run ?
