Any ideas for a 25th anniversary sojourn ? Looking to spend a week somewhere, preferably domestic

I like the water (beach). She’s more of a sightseer. I was thinking Charleston, SC might work. You have the beach and there’s some Civil War history there (Fort Sumter for starters)

Was also thinking a combined Grand Canyon (sightseeing), southern California (beach) trip. What’s that about 5hours or so drive between the two ? I always wanted to check out “the Wedge” in Newport Beach

Any ideas ?

We celebrate 25 years in 8 days!

If you want to check out the Grand Canyon, fly into Phoenix, spend a few days in Sedona, and head up to the Canyon. Can't help you with the drive to California. Personally, I would make that two separate trips. Back in 1990's, we started in San Diego and took the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. That was a great trip.

Any ideas for 25th Anniversary gifts?

San Juan, PR would satisfy both sightseeing and beach going.

Spent my 25th anniversary in Montana and Wyoming. I highly recommend it.

We did a nice trip: fly to Las Vegas (some great meals, glitz and shows), drive to San Diego (beach) and drive to Santa Monica and stay on beach (beach, sightseeing, etc.). Fly home from LA.

BINGO! Sedona all day!

How about Boston and the Cape. Some time in each.
Forgot to mention, one of her "requirements" is a place we haven't been to. She took many family vacations to CC as a kid and we went to Boston about 10 years ago. Caught a Red Sox game and went to the NE aquarium. Great suggestion though.

I will share with the other half. Never been to Vegas. Also can check out the Hoover Dam which I believe is just outside Vegas

Never heard of Sedona. will research it

I know you mentioned the beach. But do Sedona. We have a vacation home there. It is one of the most beautiful places in the United States.

You could go to Sedona or 2-5 days. Drive up to the Grand Canyon for 1-3 days (under 2 hours from Sedona). Then drive to Vegas (about another 2 hours). The sight seeing is fantastic in Sedona.

Check out some of the places on TripAdvisor. This place is nice:

There are endless hikes. Check out this site:

While it is no beach, one of our favorite places in the Sedona area is Slide Rock State Park. Natural waterslides in the Oak Creek Canyon. Water is cool and refreshing.

Funny, I didn't like Sedona. Boring. Seems like every other building is a spa.

What about Cabo? If you are older, San Jose del Cabo is a great place to spend a few days, and Cabo San Lucas is great for day trips on a boat. Beaches are great on the road between the two areas. Also, a great restaurant (Michelin star chef) at Decker's, which has great food. $70 pp gets you a 7 course tasting menu.

If you are looking to stay on the east coast, I second PR. San Juan and Condado Beach are fun and historic. If you want very laid back, head east to Vieques Island, and hit the Bioluminescent Bay out that way. Use AirBnB to save $$!

Interesting suggestion. Can you elaborate on the sightseeing part of San Juan/PR ?

Loved Old San Juan absolutely beautiful. Walking around there at night is a great romantic spot. Lots of options for dining and shopping. We also celebrate 25 years in September so I guess we are getting a clue as to the demographics of this board. Still haven't decided what we are doing.

Don't know what part of Sedona you were in. Touristy area near Uptown is boring. For us, Sedona is about hiking and sightseeing. Endless spectacular hikes. Lots of cool day trips, like going to the mining town of Jerome or Old Town Cottonwood.

We've never seen a spa, and we have been to Sedona close to 30 times. Some really fabulous restaurants in Sedona, too.

A few mentions above, plus there's a ton of history in SJ in terms of forts and such. We had a thread on this a while ago (predating our new board's ability to save threads, damnit!) where people had a lot of suggestions - a few of which I wish I had known about last time I was there.
