OT: Could the snow drought end next weekend (1/7)? Maybe...

What’s All Snow saying? I usually wait for his comments because he’s normally objective and measured when it comes to potential snow events. 😁
He's a good poster and a nice guy, who also happens to live in Metuchen, although he's not a meteorologist. The best poster to follow on AmericanWx is wdrag or Walt Drag, who was a really well known and respected NWS meteorologist for 30+ years in Boston and Philly, who is now retired and has made the NYC Metro subforum so much better since then; he lives in Wantage in the NW corner of Sussex County.

Our boxed generator, purchased a year or two after Sandy, has been a very useful table in our garage for over 10 years now, lol.
My whole house Generac on the other hand (compared to my snowblower) has come in very handy more than a few times since installing.

But I think that’s because it’s more of a JCPL thing than Mother Nature.

Gfs has a colder storm now…but not as powerful as in days pasts. Solid 4-8 inches across central nj. We keep tracking!

You never started it? I have a gas generator in the garage that we purchased during Sandy. We used it quite a bit after Sandy, but it has sat idle for over 10 years. I drained the gas and cleaned the carburetor. At this point, I wonder if I should sell the thing. We have a generator at home, but I suppose we could use it at one or our rental homes if we get another event that knocks out power.

Would you believe that in the year after Sandy, some scumbag pushed through a provision in our HOA to ban generators?

Funny thing. I had and used ours for a week during Sandy - I emptied and cleaned it before putting it back in the box. I've been in a Condo for almost a decade and am still dragging it around in the box too.

Damn. One more reason to not live anywhere they have an HOA, I guess...
Yeah, F the HOAs. Left one, had to take them to arbitration just to sell my house to my neighbor when the HOA said "you can't do that" when there was nothing in the rules prohibiting the sale to your next door neighbor. Stupidly, unwittingly wound up in another, sold, and never again. HOAs have some benefits, but the problems set in when the most ornery and nosey homeowners get on the HOA board, and look out.

HOAs are fine.....especially when you run it. :)
Even beyond this, they do provide important services including keeping the few bad apples from messing up a nice neighborhood.

Like going back to work after the holidays...same people with the same problems complaining about the same sh*t.
I worked from home today, but back to reality tomorrow. We actually have a fairly lively and happy group, and looking forward to hearing the holiday fun and horror stories.

My Husqvarna backpack blower has lasted forever. So long they don't make parts for it anymore. But I hear the newer ones aren't as good.

My Toro single stage snowblower (with electric start) is still going strong too.
My giant toro 2 stage that i got in Cleveland sits ready

Allsnow getting scolded by redtagged met on the weenie board..so great
Smackdown. And I got props from Walt Drag tonight on my BOM (Blend of Models) post - that board is so much better with him on it. Have you tried the 33andrain Discord yet? Not a big fan of the technology, as it's harder to follow than a message board, IMO, but it's got some good posters and some drek.

Every model tonight, has made significant increases in snowfall amounts (i.e., colder with less rain and more snow) for almost everyone in the 95-corridor and towards the coast, as well as nearby NW suburbs. Now we wait to see if we can maintain such a snowy forecast through the next few days and actually see the snow.

The Euro, GFS, CMC and UK all are showing 6"+ for the 95 corridor from DC to Boston including our area and even towards the coast. Track improved and cold air source in Canada improved. But we're still almost 4 days out, but we'll likely see the hype machine really kick in tomorrow.

Edit: if folks want to see the model outputs from 0Z tonight, compared to the outputs from 12Z today (GIFs for each of the 4 major models), see my post in the AmericanWx thread.

Really would love to see the forecast/track hold after all the players are within the RAOB (radiosonde observation - essentially weather balloons launched 4X a day across North America and much of the world) network sometime tomorrow (hoping we're not missing some key initialization data).

Two more things. Could be a raging rainstorm on 1/10 with 2"+ of rain, which is a lot of rain on its own, but it would also melt most/all of whatever snow might fall this weekend, possibly leading to significant flooding.

And beyond that, many of the long range folks are talking about a possible outbreak of serious cold air for the eastern half of the US and Canada, starting around 1/14 or so. And cold air doesn't guarantee snow, but it certainly makes it a bit more likely - you don't see snow in the summertime, do you?

My fault guys. Didn’t pull the trigger on the electric two stage blower. I guess it’s not too late and I can buy it tomorrow. The forecast will turn to rain as soon as I open the box.

Now that we've won our bowl game and got that out of the way, we can get back to far more important issues like bickering about snow threads!

I personally look forward to the annual "It's going to be hot" threads in the summer where people post daily about it being 90°.

And hourly updates of the temperature.

Getting a little too giddy over there...

Have sons 8th birthday party Sat night 7:30-9:30 in Warren.

What time would this snow start, if it holds?

Most models are showing precip getting going in earnest between 7 and 10 pm for the Warren area; assuming the precip is snow, as most models are showing, you could have 1-2" on the ground by 10 pm. Also, could easily see 1/2-1" between 4-7 pm, although the initial snowfall will likely be of lighter intensity and might not accumulate well, especially on warmer roads with air temps slightly above 32F, even in Warren, which will be a bit colder than Edison, for example. Not to beat a dead horse, though, but we're still 3+ days out so this could change significantly, still.

Those in the know on the weenie board are not really enthused. A weaker storm like the 6z gfs showed with marginal temps. Not buying into those snow maps from last night
Yeah, I saw Donald Sutherland's post this morning (love the names over there). He's trying to caution the weenies on this. He's respected so maybe they'll listen.
