OT: Daily COVID-19 Thread - 9/16

F A U C I

You do know that the push to wear masks in situations where they are not necessary is a Democrat thing?

"Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Friday that social distancing would likely have to continue for "several weeks." "

So:

1)We never fully shut down.

2)We didn't shut down as long as Fauci was then saying we needed to.

Thus,

This is not on Fauci.

As to your other point? Not at all relevant to the tweet you posted to which I responded.

Spot on,
I read this whole thread and posted a lot of it last night on the Covid thread...Like if you are voting for him, at least say I just don't want to vote for Biden or Harris or whatever and Trump is the only other candidate. I still can't believe that people listen to this nonsense and actually support him . Like you said, he has no platform besides projecting all of his failures onto Biden and saying this is what would happen if he's president. That's it; that's his entire platform right now. And when someone challenges him on a real policy or issue, he responds like he did in the video's above; its truly embarrassing and pathetic.

Trump is not one of the smartest presidents. He really struggles to articulate his points, and his vocabulary is limited. But he’s a good salesman and knows how to sell his base. His inability to articulate actually resonates with his lower IQ base. Describing everything as “huge” and “beautiful” makes sense to a large population of this country. So while I cringe at interview videos like that, there are many people (such as Proud NJ Fan) who are thinking “that makes sense”. And I think that says a lot in terms of the education levels of this country.

Yeah I keep waiting for the drop, but it never comes. Reminds me of NJ and watching the deaths not drop for weeks and weeks and weeks.
Same as we saw in NJ and the other hard hit states from the first wave, the drop in cases happens fairly quickly, the drop in deaths is slower and longer drawn out.

To be fair his dealings with some of these ultra complicated issues in a more simplistic manner has shown beneficial. That has not proven the case with Covid though.

Its not Trump's base sending 48 of the 50 largest cities into anarchy and violence. The bluest states are crumbling from leaders and voters practically devoid of common sense. Many of the college educated people are the dumbest of all since they spend the most time being indoctrinated. You have to go to college to get confused about "boys and girls."

Great post...The problem with Trump is well many things, but he has his base no matter what..He could shoot there mom right in front of them and they would love him. The question is, why he isn't selling to the rest of the country, particularly the independents and people more in the middle. He hasn't budged off the selling his base for 4 years, and if you watched the town hall last night, he doesn't know how to talk in that environment; he only knows how to sell his base in simplistic terms.

This is a myth and obviously the optics look bad with all of the coverage the riots and looting got, but if you look at the numbers, violent crime is worse in 7 out of 10 red states..I posted the link yesterday.

Was hoping to see more dramatic results. Think we need to see results of the other trials they are running before we really know. Sample sizes are tiny.....did the middle dosage work or did they just get lucky with the participants? Why did the largest dose fail? Should be interesting if they try to get an EUA based on these foggy results.

Agreed, these results are not nearly as good as what I had hoped. As usual, Derek Lowe is on top of this one with a blog entry on the Lilly results (excerpt below). He was also disappointed, especially in the lack of a dose-response signal. Seems odd that 2800 mg is effective but not 7000 mg and in a smaller trial (this is phase II in outpatients before hospitalization with mild/moderate COVID), it's possible that the 2800 mg data are "wrong" not the 7000 mg data. Keep in mind, though, that this is their single mAb trial and that they have a combo of 2 monoclonal antibodies in an ongoing trial in more seriously ill hospitalized patients going on in parallel - this is similar to what Regeneron has ongoing (cocktail of two mAbs- an interim look at results expected this month). The other issue is 2.8-7.0 grams of protein per dose per day is huge - there's no way this can be easily scaled up for more than a few million people as a preventative, although it's enough to treat those who are moderately to severely ill in the US and many other places if it works in those patients.

But now the less good news. The trial looked at 3 doses: 700mg, 2800mg, and 7000mg, and there was no dose-response: only the middle dose worked. That’s worrisome; I’m having a hard time figuring why the higher dose would not have shown effects (and I’ll bet that Lilly is, too). This was not a tiny trial, but it wasn’t huge either (about 300 in the treatment group and 150 in the control), and there’s a nagging worry that the effect size just wasn’t large enough to see a solid answer in a group this size. I would have to think that Lilly expected better, and that’s why the trial was designed with this number of patients. And when I say “solid answer”, that cuts both ways – if that’s the statistical problem here, then a larger trial might show the 7000mg dose having some benefit, but it might also show that the 2800mg dose didn’t. These are the thoughts that a lack of dose response provokes.

Lilly and Abcellera are still in the clinic, with this antibody and another candidate that binds at a different epitope on the coronavirus Spike protein. They’re testing the combination in a larger group of higher-risk patients, and I very much hope that the data that come out of that trial are more solid than these numbers, which are honestly weaker than I expected. The combination is similar to what Regeneron is in the clinic with now. It’s worth noting that the press release mentions that coronavirus mutations that would lead to resistance against this single antibody were seen in about 6% of the controls and 8% of the treated patients, which is reason enough to think that the combination could be a better idea.

163 CEOs and business leaders just wrote di Blasio (known communist) tying to get him to wake-up. They aren't writing red states. The urban party has become neo-Marxist/Communist no matter if they see it or not - admit it or not. We just had 2 more Dem primary winners who are self described Marxists and socialists. The part itself is an America hating party. They want to get a new anthem , flag, constitution. They want to stop free speech and force conformity. They want to criminalize opposition. They want to destroy the economy, police, military, borders etc while catering to enemies. They encourage hating white people and are inventing alternative reality histories just like Nazis did. They attack critics as unscientific while they talk about men menstruating, cow fart climate change and trains to Hawaii.

Marxism is spectacularly proven as failed . For US people to run for it is one of the dumbest movements in history. Its made all the dumber because many people don't even that's what they are rushing for because they are being steered into using hijacked civil tights jargon

CEOs to Mayor de Blasio: Fix New York City!

Now that we're getting closer to vaccines hitting the market, maybe it's time to discuss public health policy in terms of getting the vaccine out to the population.

I strongly believe we should adopt a voluntary approach to the vaccine as that will likely lead to the highest participation rate. People like having the choice in their hands and it keeps confidence high in the institutions providing the vaccine. The worst implementation policy would be a draconian mandatory vaccine administered via the US Military or HHS. This immediately causes skepticism and concern in the population and would cause millions to avoid taking the vaccine, especially if there are still concerns as to its safety/efficacy.

Bravo! As usual, you take a thread of truth (NYC needs help - and the $$ to do it, which the Republican Senate and Trump won't support for blue states) and spin it into a web of lies. Democrats as Marxists, lol. Maybe a few on the fringe, but all the dems I know and 99% of those running for office have no interest in Marxism or any of the other crap you posted.
pretty sure its not the first time that someone has posted that link in a thread. relevant or irrelevant, spamming threads with unrelated info is stupid.

its fine to have a voluntary approach, but that can certainly become a soft mandatory if employers, schools, etc., will require vaccines before people can return.

There should be some sort of universal doctors note that people can show as proof if they are vaccinated. The country completely opens for those people - bars, sporting events, etc.

We went from it'll just disappear in 15 days to it will still just disappear, eventually, and now herd mentality, yay. What a frickin' moron. And people are worried about Biden's mental acuity with this guy in charge?

Weak troll job, again

You know that Joe has dementia , or maybe you don't, possible you may have it too with that comment

DJT is the best Prez we have had since Reagan.

It dropped in Sweden and the whole Northeast. Now other areas that shut down early are getting it like the south, Mexico, South America and India. Looks like it’s just going to run it’s course like it did in Sweden. You remember Sweden I believe. Nobody is dying there just like NJ.
Biden on now. Wow. I feel for him tbh

Today I worked in a hospital in NJ. It was my first time there in two months. I was talking with one of the tradesman that works there asking him about covid. He said they used to have meetings about it regarding how many people were in there with in and such but really not anymore lately. Last meeting they had was six people in there for it. He said things seem almost normal now there. Some visitors are allowed as well now. I did notice people are a lot more laxed on masks in there compared to two months ago. So people taking them down to talk and some below the nose I saw. People dont fear it as much as they used to and thats a good thing IMO.
