Sounds like Harbaugh will be throwing everything including the kitchen sink at them. Might make for a crazy, fun football game.

I tried to find it and it is not being carried by ESPN or any minor station. I did see a 3.5 Hr block on the B1G network that is not listed as a game but it looks like the right time slot? What station?

Since it's in Utah my guess would be fox sports1

I'm looking forward to Thursday night. Also have TCU/Minnesota. While the Gophers will be a significant underdog, they're a scrappy team that could benefit from this being the first game of the year. Thursday night B1G action!

Utah is now a 5 1/2 point favorite. I heard Rick Neuheisel and Chris Childers talk about Harbaugh and Michigan today. Michigan is pretty much starting Iowa's backup QB from last season (5year senior transfer I guess). Neuheisel went on to tell a few of his encounters with Harbaugh from when he was at UCLA and Harbaugh at Stanford. Not very flattering of Harbaugh as a person, but concedes he's a very good coach.

Michigan will be a lot better this year because of the new HC. However, this is a very tough game on the road. Utah overall is a very underated program. Very tough, physical team which handled Michigan pretty easily last year. This will probably be a close game but Utah has a lot of players back..including the QB.

Utah's front 7 is no joke. If Michigan doesn't block people, their QB is going to get his head torn off.

UM's defense is rumored to be vastly improved over last year. The Iowa QB transfer (Rudock) is a ball control kind of player while the former 5 star QB (Morris) has a gun. Likely both will see time.

Peppers is rumored to be seeing both sides of the ball and is expected to live up to the hype.

the defense will be better than last year, and last year they were still really good. Its going to be tough moving the ball on them this year so to beat michigan you have to stop their O, make it a close game and win the turnover battle. College football can't start soon enough.

Gotta go B1G here. I'll be rooting hard for the Gophers and Wolverines.

not until WE make it as a program should we root for other programs that we battle with. Any michigan or minnesota win hurts our cause, even if just a little. Shouldn't we not worry about league perception and more about how we can catch up to and pass everyone?

We are not winning the National Championship this year. We want to continue the good B1G vibes heading into the Tier 1 negotiations. A Michigan win would set the stage for the continued resurgence of the B1G. That's what Jim D needs to get max value out of these negotiations and money is Rutgers greatest need.

I hope Utah piss pounds them into the ground. The Utah defense makes you work to get any yards. One of the most physical teams I've seen the past few years. Doesn't matter their personnel, they just get tough dudes.

I think Utah wins this one, too many questions for Michigan. Utah home environment is crazy. I don't like Harbaugh and Michigan fans either, way too full of themselves.

That makes a lot of sense. If you really think that this plays into the tv negotiations at all, which I imagine it does, then it would make more sense to root for the B1G. Go Mich (sucks to say it) and Go Gophers.

agree, of course.
Just doesn't help us much, and thats the main goal here right? to be as good as we can be?

I reckon you could make arguments either way, but I don't see how a Michigan win really helps us enough to make a difference.

All things equal, I'd pull for the B1G team, but Utah is the more exciting team and I'd love to see them make a run and knock off the traditional PAC powers. A win in this big game only helps set the momentum up. Really don't care that much if Michigan makes a run and don't see it happening this year, anyway. Also easy to root for Utes thanks to being the original BCS buster.

The TV contract? We get 1/14th of that value. Even if you think the contract value will be a million dollars (probably an overstatement) less if Utah beats Michigan this week, that's around 70k. It's not nothing, but it's not a game changing amount.

By the same token, are you going to root for Penn State to go 4-0 out of conference because we might get a few more TV dollars?

You're missing the point. It's not about one win, it's about the bigger picture of a resurgent B1G. If the perception is that Michigan is back that is worth a hell of a lot more than $1MM in what will be a multi billion dollar deal negotiated over the next 12 months or so.

I'm rooting for um and ttfp to win out of conference so it's that much sweeter when we crush both of them this year

I think you're overstating the point. Michigan probably won't be that good this year, and the game against Utah won't be all that meaningful to Michigan being back or the state of the league. So, meh.

Not trying to change your mind on who to root for, but you're not changing anyone else's with that tenuous argument.

How does a Minnesota win over the #2 team in the country hurt our cause? It's not like they recruit Jersey hard. And we won't be playing them regularly. Only twice in our first six B1G seasons.

A Minnesota win over the #2 team may not affect us as much as some other B1G teams winning... But it would definitely raise their profile and the last thing we want is yet another program to do that. We haven't eaten yet, everything counts

Go B1G. Enough said. It'll be a little easier to root for Minny than Mich, but still.

Down with Michigan!
NEVER root for them, ever.

I really don't get why folks want the B1G East to be stronger and stronger.
4 of those schools are already beating us in recruiting (ranking-wise).
You really want them to win on the field, too, which in turn, would make their recruiting even better?

As many have said, if we were in Ohio State's shoes, it might be different as you need a good perceived strength of schedule.

We (Rutgers) just needs wins, not wins against Top 10 teams.
Those will come in time

I've been waiting for Thursday, finally college football again. I have no issues with Harbaugh, yea he's a little nutty but he's a great coach. I'll be rooting for Michigan but it's a tall order on the road at Utah. I expect the same smash mouth style we saw at Stanford emerge at Michigan.

Michigan is who Michigan is and me rooting for them in an OOC game which has no bearing on the conference record doesn't make a bit of difference. I want the B10 to do well OOC, it helps getting a team in the playoff. It's our job to find a way to win because they are our competition along with the rest. Miss St/Ole Miss/TCU/Baylor found ways to crack through the "big boys" in their league and we have to as well.

As to the recruiting, these are name brands. Do you think one game or even a bunch of games affects their recruiting. How did Hoke recruit after RichRod? How is Franklin recruiting now? A game or even a lousy season won't make much of an impact on their recruiting. What will help our recruiting is less about these other name programs doing poorly and more about us exceeding our expectations by a lot like TCU/Baylor etc.. I'd guess without looking that their recruiting has taken off due to their performance over the last handful of years.

Also hoping Minnesota can get some revenge against TCU. They really need to control the tempo of that game, I don't expect them to win a shootout with TCU.

People are writing off this year as a rebuild and I think that's very possible but I also think they could get 7 wins or so. They have a pretty decent OOC too with Utah, Oregon State, BYU, UNLV. Minnesota is there as one of their crossovers. On its face it seems like a tall order maybe but I think they can do it.
