OT: NCAA College Football Games Thread (Championship Weekend) 12/6-12/7 Fri-Sat

I think Madsen got in. His knee just barely stayed off the ground. That’s a TD.

They reversed the call….14-0 Boise

Don't think so. Monken is a perfect fit at Army, even when they don't run the wishbone.

Just got an INT. Tulane is giving this game away.
I think he’d go if offered. The money he could make at Purdue is way more than Army and that’s sets up the family. He hasn’t had that huge multimillion dollar payday yet in his career. If he had then maybe I’d say he would stay but since he hasn’t I’d say more dependent on if the offer comes.

He's making $2 mil. per year at Army. Yes, Purdue would pay more. But with a long career you can set up your family.

Yea I saw that but just started last year, It would be at least double that on the low end and probably 5-6 years. Thats plenty comparatively.

Plus there’s a there’s potential professional ambition of trying to be successful on a higher level.

I think Army Navy game could get in the way of opportunity though. I think carousel will start to spin faster after this championship weekend. Not sure schools will want to wait much longer with portal and opening up officially on Monday.

Monken is "more Army" than a lot of the brass.
He ran the option because he liked it more than other offenses.
He likes West Point - practically recruits itself and its hard for players to get in trouble.
After 15 pre-Monken losing seasons Moken can stay where he is for another 15 years.
He might get a statue next to MacArthur.
He'll be one of the legacy "ghosts" up there

This is from the Athletic and I’ve read other places saying he’s interested. I think it’s just a matter of whether he’s offered and would the Army Navy game get in the way of a potential offer.

From the article:

Army head coach Jeff Monken is an Illinois native and was in the mix for the Illinois and Kansas jobs in recent years. He’s got Army at 10-1 this season, playing for the AAC championship in the Black Knights’ first year in the conference, and he’s won at least nine games five times since 2017. Monken has also made it known he doesn’t have to run a triple-option offense at another job, and Ken Niumatalolo’s success at San Jose State this year could help the perception of service academy coaches. Bobinski also worked at Navy in the early 1990s, so there’s familiarity with the academies.

lol you keep posting here to watch wasbgitnon cross Christmas morning during daylight hours.!
Yeah do you know why they do that?? So people will actually come and be able to it? And they don't march down to Trenton. It's a reenactment dope. Obviously you never been. Not legendary at all

Certainly the money he could make would have its appeal.
I also think he's wise to remind Army of what he's worth to other places.

Ok so you’re not into the real thing !

UNLV not going away but false start pushing them back. Inside the Boise 20 3:25 left.

1st and goal from the 8 turns to 4th and goal from the 21. Penalties and negative plays leads to zero points again when inside the 10 for UNLV

That should do it, Boise will win the MWC.

Exactly why I’d wait on him if I’m Purdue.
Resourceful and doing more with less is what you want.

No one is a guarantee but that’s the profile of a coach you’d want.

Tyson Helton at WKU was another name linked there.

For me Monk is one of best coaches I've seen for football fundamentals.

Ask GS a post-game question like "Coach why so many sacks today?" and he'll say "I have the worst seat in the house and I"ll need to see the tape."

Ask Monk the same question and he'll tell you "the left tackle wasn't using his hands correctly." He always knows what's going on and what went on in the game.

Prior to Monken the coaches were intimidated by the institution and admins.
One coach (Brock) would always apologize for loses like he lost WWII for Army.
Monk was like "The soldiers are your focus but you brought me here to win football games and this is what I need."

He was never uncomfortable or inclined to minimize football's roll - in fact he would tell admins they work players out too much (didn't need all the PT along with football practice).

He needs 40 wins to beat the record of Coach Blaik
