I fear this Isn’t good for Mets if true.

Regardless paying Soto that type of money is insane.

What is fall back plan? Santander ?

If the Yankees offered that amount, they just mortgaged the present and future. Baby Steinbrenner is cheap and might have a stroke when he realizes what he just offered Soto. Soto might have to play every position since they won't have enough money to pay other players. 🤣

So, exactly how does Heyman know this? There is only one possible answer - Boras is leaking it to him. Why? My thoughts:

* Because he wants the Yankees to believe that the Mets have made that offer.
* Because he wants to Mets to believe that the Yankees have made that offer.
* Because he wants the other involved teams to believe that both the Yankees and Mets have made that offer.

We may believe or disbelieve these numbers as we choose. But the one thing we do know is that at this particular game, Boras is the best that's ever been.

I won't be at all disappointed if the Mets do not win this bidding war even if it means he winds up with the Yankees. In fact I would be fine with it.

I would be fine with it but then, what is your plan to improve? I assume it starts with Alonso. Trade Marte or McNeil for a solid RP, get Manaea and maybe another starter and fill in the rest of the BP?

Unless things change it doesn’t appear Mets are in for Burnes.

Me too….and frankly, I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn’t wind up with the Yankees, almost irregardes of the bidding at this point. Therefore, I hope Cohen goes nuclear, because I feel the Yankees will match it or at least be close enough to retain him.

Stearns has access to more money, but he still operates as if he's back in Milwaukee. Soto wants to see teams that are making improvements to win. The nickel-and-dime approach to starting pitching may not sit well with Soto. It's a real possibility that while waiting on Soto to decide, other targets could be off the market. Burnes's decision or Fried or Manaea are not tied to Soto like Pete's. I feel the Mets are so focused on Soto that by the time they look around, they've screwed themselves.

I expect that one way or another, the Soto situation will be resolved this week, within days if not hours.

Speaking of Soto, there was a podcast I watched yesterday that contained some interesting information. The host talked about a certain poster that started quoting and posting the idea of Soto to Boston on the internet based on a reporter. There was a response from a comment in the thread that called it BS. That person said the Mets did offer $750 million over 15 years. Later, the person who made the claim shut down his social media. The podcast host dug and linked it back to Mendoza's son. Mendoza's son had made previous comments on social media about other events concerning the Mets, which turned out to be true. The host also mentioned that the Mets front office had commented about leaks. The front office wasn't concerned but felt it made for an awkward situation. I wish he gave some insight on starting pitching. 😆

it is over 15 years so it is more like, what does $40-45 mil get you
Pete will be $25
leaves you 15-20 mil for anyone else
Does it really leave you $15-20 mil? Cohen doesn't have a hard stop on salary if he thinks this will put him over the top.

Having access to more money doesn’t mean just on the free agent market.

What if having more money means that you can not only put a deal together for a guy like Crochet, but also have the money to sign him? Lots of ways to spend Cohen’s money.

Mets have not missed out on anyone “waiting” on Soto. They’ve added 2 pitchers, a platoon CF and have signed a bunch of guys to training camp deals while “waiting”.

Soto was always going to be the key to the entire market opening. I’m willing to bet regardless of Soto coming to Queens or not, this roster will look different this time next week after the Winter Meetings.

What page has The Dead Zone fallen too, I can't find it? Talk about an active fanbase, I want to see who they want and besides Soto are there similar players both the Mets and Yankees are after.

The Cohen tax doesn't prevent him from going over it like it does for others. Players are trying to maximize their earnings because it doesn't last forever. Do you think Severino was worth that money the A's gave him? But he ran to the money.

no- I was responding to someone saying if we dont sign Soto- we have 700 mil to spend. But that 700 mil was over 15 years and anyone else we sign would be between 3-7 years

Padre fan here.

I don’t mean to be that guy to rain on the parade, but I think this one might haunt the Mets.

This dude is a DH, nothing more, nothing less. $700 mill is crazy. Yanks dodged a bullet IMO.

The Mets have a great shot to win another World Series now that a Republican will be back in the White House. Alonso's price will go way up.

I'm gonna find those USC fans you were trolling at the LA Memorial Coliseum and have them haunt you!

That is a LOT of money though for a DH.

Eddie Trunk (hard rock DJ) is happy.

Good. Yankee fans can be happy too then.

Love Soto at bat, but he just kept getting worse and worse in the field. A 15th-year contract is moronic. The Yanks now have a lot of flexibility to improve the team and fill their multiple gaps.

Go get Pete now

Lindor
Vientos
Soto
Pete
Nimmo
Alvarez

Marte
Mcneil
Acuna
Baty
Taylor
Pete had an awful year and it seems to be a trend. Mets would be wise to pass. Put Soto at 1st before he becomes a full-time DH.

He was a better hitter for the Yanks than the Friars, but still a DH in my mind.

He couldn’t hit Oppo for 2/3rds of the year for us.

Even with that bat, every time a ball would go his way I would cringe. And him running the bases looks like a giraffe that hasn’t found his legs yet.

Then of course there was always those key at bats where you want him to swing and he goes down looking on a pitch because he trusts his eye so much.

Would love to have him back in SD, but 15-765? Sheeesh.
