OT: NJ legal weed vote canceled

So how do we keep plastics from killing all of the pelagic wildlife? (Bearing in mind that the problem is almost entirely Asian in nature)

chartoftheday_12211_the_countries_polluting_the_oceans_the_most_n.jpg

Well as your statistics show above, passing a law in NJ will have great effect. LOL

Lookit the guy wanting more government. Good for you Johnny. I'm sure the polystyrene issue will be solved by a law from NJ with the lowest possible cost and no corruption. After all look at the other great jobs government has done, Prohibition, drug laws, war on poverty, equal protection under the law, hell just the rule of law. I'll bet there was a smart guy like you who supported making weed illegal a while back. Oops!

I'm sure that NJ will solve this fish problem polystyrene problem. If it saves just one fish... LOL.

What if I told you there was a renewable plant that could produce enough straws, packing peanuts & styrofoam containers to keep the entire country fat & happy, yet decompose within 6 months into a compost that is healthy for aquatic life and enriches soil?

Now, what if I told you Dupont put pressure on the US government to make this plant illegal in 1937 because it cut into the profit of their Rayon and Nylon patents?

Oh yeah, and 36,000 New Jerseyans are arrested each year for possessing the flower of this plant.

Not even close to answering the question.

I'm not trying to save fish. I'm pointing out the silliness that the NJ state government has apparently solved all of the big NJ problems and is moving on to banning plastic items. Your data supports my position. You want to save fish, talk to China, unless you think the NJ law would have a big impact.

So you think passing a law against Pot was bad. But support passing a law against plastic straws when data cited aboves shows it will have very little effect.

You don't see the point where less government might be better more government. Especially more needless government.

Well apparently NJ feels that paying burger flippers $15/hour and letting people kill off grandma to save their inheritance is more important, since those passed bills in legislature while cannabis and “the war on plastic” did not.

So we've completely abandoned the notion of "leading by example".

We'll you're the guys who wants laws. Look in the mirror. I don't think the war on straws has come up for a vote yet - just being considered. I might have been misinformed.

So you've completely abandoned limited government principles. Welcome to the Leftist paradise. #OBEYOBEYOBEY

See it's easy to insult.

BTW you don't need a law to lead by example.

I’ve cleaned more than my share of plastic $#!t out of the Shrewsbury and Navesink. I’ve bought 5 items at Wegmans and come home with 9 plastic bags. I find polystyrene both a nuisance and pollution and fully support an outright ban on petroleum based plastic. So yes, in my opinion a law is needed to keep idiots from destroying my personal environment.

Thats like saying anyone who has a drink is a boozer. Both can be done responsibly. This is pot we are talking about, not heroin. I can take a hit and 98% of the people around me wouldn't even know it.

Smoke up!

If you read the linked article:

Here’s the problem: With no Breathalyzer (now the Alcotest) to measure marijuana impairment, convictions for stoned driving rely on the observations of thoroughly trained drug recognition experts (DREs). Experts across the spectrum, from police chiefs to Triple-A officials to DUI attorneys, agree that there needs to be a substantial increase in DREs as marijuana becomes more prevalent across the state.

That’s not “experts across the spectrum”. That’s a list of people who have been lining their pockets with blood money from the failed War on Drugs.

What does the NHTSA say about the effects of driving on THC?

From an article I read back in January

"The bill has somewhat stalled in the Senate after being approved by its environment committee in September. Like most legislation, it has taken a backseat to two big issues being pushed by Gov. Phil Murphy: raising the minimum wage to $15 and legalizing recreational marijuana. "

I find the term "pothead" funny on a board where people discuss consuming copious amounts of alcohol on at least 8 Saturdays a year.

I will ask again

Can someone point me to a case of a death from marijuana overdose?

Don’t your remember the “What’s for breakfast?” thread?

Everyone here is in perfect health and never over consumes.

Not seeing the underlying principle. Laws I like good, laws I don't like bad?

If you're smoking, wouldn't they smell it. (I would also say that if someone is trying to hide smoking pot or drinking from 98% of the people around them, that might be a sign that they have a smoking/drinking problem.)
Edibles come with legalization. Easy way to go. No smoke, no cough, no fuss, no muss! :flushed:

So give us an example of your leadership.

I'm betting you can't, after your "f*ck the fish" tirade.

Don't presume to lecture anyone, on anything. You've lost your high ground.

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsa...efused-to-recycle-the-wests-plastics-what-now

China just stopped accepting recycled plastics from other countries starting in 2018.

For more than 25 years, many developed countries, including the U.S., have been sending massive amounts of plastic waste to China instead of recycling it on their own.

Some 106 million metric tons — about 45 percent — of the world's plastics set for recycling have been exported to China since reporting to the United Nations Comtrade Database began in 1992.

But in 2017, China passed the National Sword policy banning plastic waste from being imported — for the protection of the environment and people's health — beginning in January 2018.

Now that China won't take it, what's happening to the leftover waste?

For developed nations like the United States, it can be more economical to push plastics out of the country rather than recycling them, says Jenna Jambeck, an associate professor of engineering at the University of Georgia and another of the study's authors.

The U.S., Japan and Germany are all at the top of the list when it comes to exporting their used plastic. In the U.S. alone, some 26.7 million tons were sent out of the country between 1988 and 2016.

Hong Kong is the biggest exporter of plastic waste, at 56.1 million tons. But it has acted as an entry point to China — having imported 64.5 million tons from 1988 to 2016 from places like the U.S. (which sent more than 372,000 metric tons there in 2017) and then having sent most of that on to China.

And if it is? You can't be so naive to think some High Schoolers aren't drinking or smoking weed? I didn't say I agree with children smoking pot, but legal or not they are going to experiment.
Ok maybe your missing my point....you are making it much more accessible and if you think it us a positive gonto Denver and see all the braindead youth walking around
2 wrongs do not make a right no matter how you slice it...there is no way shape or form that drugs should be legal. It is assanine

Drinking and gambling doesn't kill people.

I hope that part of the law is that any pot found in a car except for the trunk is considered the same as an open beverage container and the driver is subject to testing. There is no more need to smoke in a car if you can legally smoke it anywhere else. In fact legalizing it should help this.
Drinking doesn't kill people?!?!?!?!

From the perspective of accessibility, what's the difference between texting your weed guy and going to the weed store?

Minors (anyone under 21) wouldn't be able to purchase at the weed store. So nothing is getting easier for them.

Yeah ok your living in a fantasy world

Bull shit 12yr old boys are vapaing in my daughters grade. Kids are stupid there's no reason for adults to be even dumber. We live in a completlely moronic country right now that is only getting worse. What idiot thinks making drugs legal is beyond my comprehension

Ummm, alcohol is technically a drug. Using your logic, it shouldn't be legal.

I love animals and sea life, but I need a darn straw at times. They better ban iced coffee too!!
Before plastic straws became the standard, paper straws were the most widely used.
With the legalization of growing hemp I'm sure there can be a way to use it to make straws since paper products like paper bags, envelopes, paper towels , toilette paper and some cardboard products can made from it.

So you'll be able to get your straws and the need to destroy the ice coffee industry will go away :D

I don’t know if AC passed an ordinance but you no longer get plastic straws served with drinks there. It’s a move I favor.

The people claiming ‘moral high ground’ on this one while sticking their fingers in their ears and going ‘lalalalalala can’t hear you lalalalalalala’ regarding alcohol gotta make you laugh.

I was replying to another post. If you think that removing alcohol from a casino should take precedence over people getting high while driving then I guess we will never agree.

What's "fantasy" about what I said?
Every minor has a 21 yr old friend...i cant believe im actually arguing with people over keeping drugs illegal where they should be

Shows you how completely STUPID this society has become. If there was nothing in this financially for these states there is no way in hell they would even consider

All they want is a piece of the drug dealer trade. And yes i have quite a few friends that made the leap from weed to hardcore drugs

Also from alcohol some made the jump, without using pot. But pot has been called a gateway drug, even if alcohol opened that gate and still is considered is socially acceptable.
Medical marijuana, still has opposition .

Most hard core drug users started out with alcohol.
The Mexican Cartel wants to keep pot illegal, along with the Alcohol industry not wanting the competition.

I know you keep ignoring the question from everyone but what is the difference between pot and alcohol? Why should one be legal and not the other?

What would your definition of “drug that should be illegal”?

I’m hoping alcohol and nicotine fall under it.

Side note - I’ve never smoked weed or nicotine (just a cigar one time).
Even at RU when offered.
I was told “don’t worry, your first time nothing will really happen”
My response was always “then why would I waste my time and stop drinking??”

"Every minor has a 21 year old friend"?

That's a fallacious statement, right off the bat. Neither one of my girls had "21 year old friends" when they were, say, 18 or so. They hung out with their peers.

I feel like you're not a worthwhile debate participant. You seem to make bizarre, unsupported generalizations. Also, your spelling is for shit. For the love of God, man, it's *you're*, not "your".

On the topic of “drugs”, what’s the deal with Kratom?

Heard some very good things (such as using it to get off heroin).
Also heard it can get out of hand quickly.
