Notre Dame had a nice opening win vs. No. 20 Texas A&M. But the A&M QB looked bad. I never saw so much miscommunication between a QB and his receivers; he threw right when the receivers were going left and vice versa. ND's remaining schedule is maybe not a joke, but quite easy.

Army, Navy, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Miami of Ohio, Stanford, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, a down Florida State at home, and USC away. They started out at No. 7. Being ND, look for them to move up as the season progresses. Looks like USC could be the only true test remaining. Then hopefully reality hits again at playoff time.

ND is basically guaranteed a playoff spot every year if they have two losses or less. This year was a struggle to find two possible losses, with the Texas A&M win they are pretty much already in the playoff.

A good barometer is how would ND do with Rutger’s schedule, or a BIG schedule including some combo of Michigan, OS, Oregon, PS, and USC?

lol !!!!

ND ranked #5 losing at home, to unranked NIU.

I will say, NIU offensive coordinator called a great game, as did their DC, and their players executed.

The good news is that as it stands now, unless they join a conference, they will never get one of the 4 byes in the playoff. That’s a big deal in trying to win a championship.
Even if Notre Dame makes the playoffs, they should not get a 5-8 seeding and hence host a playoff game with their schedule. It’s embarrassingly soft. Committee should penalize them.

Nah. They only need to be a Top 12 team in the end, and at 11-1 theyd be a lock no matter how NIU’s season plays out.

I would think this northern Illinois loss keeps them out even if they get to 11-1
If they stay at one loss, I think they could get in but can't comment on the seed, anywhere from 5-12.

There have been years where teams with 3 losses would've gotten in so 1 loss (even if a bad one) still has a chance. If they lose, more well then the chance will go away.

Doubt they get in the playoffs as their QB is a clone of Wimsatt. Can run, can't pass.
Even the refs tried to help ND with just a horrible call where the running back had an obvious first down but they said he was down 2 yards before.

Wasn’t obvious. The real error was not restarting the game clock after the replay.

That was was glaring error.

It depends how USC’s season goes. If that is a good win to end the season for ND at 11-1, they’re in.
Did you watch any of yesterday's game? They aren't reeling off 11 straight. Plus even if they did they won't play in a Conference Championship game.

Yeah, the top half of the ball carrier’s body fell across the line to gain, and the ref spotted the ball where the runner’s feet were. No evidence of a knee down early, should have been a first down.

Regardless, kudos to NIU for overcoming that to win the game.

Don’t need a CC for playoff. At 11-1 they are in, period. They would be climbing the rankings for many of the next 12 weeks whether they play or not.

In your dreams, that reviews always fix everything. You should stop listening to the dog.
you’re lost pal. if slow motion replay from 6 different angles and also simultaneous looks from multiple don’t conclusively show it, it’s not obvious. But obvious to you ? Gotcha.

Can I take the under on 11 wins for ND? I'll take under 10 also.

Obvious to me?? You have to be kidding. It was obvious to the guys calling the game, every sports media outlet last night and this morning along with local media this morning. You are the first person on this board claiming it wasn't an obvious first down. But its me...gotcha!
The problem with replay review is college needs to take it away from the ref on the field, who screwed up in the first place, using a tiny replay screen in the sun. So how long have been a Notre Dame fan? Or do you really need a seeing eye dog?
