OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

It’s not the subjects. It’s the reactionary, thoughtless, unrealistic level of the discussion. It’s one of those things that is objectively bad. And I know, I know. Why hang around? We’ll, like the CE board, I’m on my way out. It’s just too goofy here.

Now check on his home runs to innings pitched and post that.
My big question and I didn’t bother to try to look it up is how many inherited runs Smith is giving up. If not many, then the ERA is much more important than the HR ratio.
Though, I agree, that has been his one weak spot.

The wart not addressed at the deadline was the bullpen. Depth was needed / required to avoid having to bring in guys like Banda; Y. Diaz; Smith etc.

SP Depth also remains a concern. We currently have 5 starters: Stroman / Walker / Carrasco / Megill / Hill but if an injury or 2 happens - we're back to TBA again - with Degrom's status uncertain etc.

Oh well..onto tomorrow and hopefully with Baez injected in the lineup - it'll light the team up....

I think the problem with that is we have game threads mixed with discussion. Game threads are always reactionary. Honestly we need a sub Mets fourm here so we could discuss several things at a time instead of everything being contained into the one thread. I see a lot of BS here but actually it has become one of my favorite places to discuss the team because of all the different posters and views.

Donald Rumsfeld once said that you go to war with the army you have, not the army you wish you had.

As of 4:00 today, this is the army we have. Is it good enough? We'll see. My guess is no, but that's why they play the games.

As far as bullpen depth goes, Mets have six guys whom I would consider high leverage, i.e., that I would feel comfortable seeing in the late innings of a tie game or with a small lead. E. Diaz, May, Loup, Lugo, Familia, and (to a slightly lesser extent) Castro.

While more is always better, six is not bad. Not many teams have more high leverage bullpen guys than that.

Nimmo may be hurt. He pinched his hamstring making the diving catch late in the game. Ugh. Never ends.

What's worrisome is that for most of the season we'd been pretty dominant at home. But now have a losing record on this current homestand with 2 games to go. At best can finish 6-5 on the homestead if we can salvage the next 2 games. On the other hand we've been a poor road team. Unless that reverses itself in a hurry we're in trouble. Because we have road series in LA, SF, MIL, Boston still to come.

KBEE, how about Tampa Bay? 62-42 with a budget 25% of the Yanks?
What happened to last seasons excuse, that the 3 Amigos only came to this thread because Mets fans went there to bust chops? That hasn't happened this year, well not yet anyway. 😎

Where will Baez bat ?
LHP tonight
Phil says Nimmo hammy issue

Pillar CF
Alonso 1b
McNeil 2b
Davis 3b
Baez ss
Smith LF
McCann C

RF ???? Drury ?
nimmo plays pillar in RF

DiComo reporting Nimmo day-to-day.

While there's a first time for everything, I have never seen a player be described as day-to-day, and then play on that very same day.

EVERY team has lineup online hours before Mets do. Mets must feel they get a competitive advantage by waiting to the last second to post lineup

they are in first 😜

I thought Drury might be odd man out with the addition of Baez. I guess not as he is in the starting lineup.

EDIT: Banda DFA'd. For now at least, Mets will roll with a 13 man staff and 5 man bench.

Maybe because ground ball pitcher. Also he hasn’t been hitting.

Why did I think Stroman was pitching?
Maybe because Stroman last pitched on Monday, making tonight his regular turn? The insertion of Carrasco into the rotation pushed him back a day.

Two 3-0 swings ???
one lucky broken bat hit
And a GIDP ?????
What was the question???????????????

Villar 3-0 swing is questionable IMO. However, unless it's a situation where baserunners are needed, Alonso gets turned loose on 3-0. Especially with a runner on.

As Keith mentioned, the disappearance of the 3-0 take sign is one of many ways in which the game has changed.

Not many players have discipline to say I want pitch here and take if it’s not exactly what they are looking for.
they get green light and seem to swing at anything just because they got the 3-0 green light

Rojas doesn’t Have ⚾️⚾️ to bench Villar
That is embarrassing and can’t happen
But I guess I’m not allowed to say this

How many times has Villar been picked off this year? It’s seems more than average. Could’ve been tie game.
