3-0 Baez swings at ball 4

I’d might not complain if Mets weren’t a horrendous scoring team

McCann swings at ball that would’ve hit him then strike 3 7 inches outside

If a team wants to walk in 3 runs LET THEM

If a team played 6 DBs and had only 2 on the DL would you keep calling deep go routes ????
If a team had a 6ft center would you keeping bombing 3’s ?????

Did the Mets rope-a-dope the division throughout July? Are they preparing to knock out the division in August a la George Foreman? 😝

Tom Hardy aka Drury
Had plan to go the other way
He didn’t swing like it was the HR derby
and took a pitch out of the zone and hit it away from the shift
That approach isn't sexy, but it works. Too bad more players don't try that. They might have more success as hitters.

Keep Drury in Conforto out! How did he look in RF? Alonso needs to stop with the attempted undressing after walk-offs. Its not cute dude.
I don't recall Drury having any non-routine chances, if he had any at all.

To your other point, I firmly believe that we must play Conforto and he must get hot. If he doesn't, we don't win. But let's not get enamoured with Drury. Given enough playing time, he will revert to who he is - a valuable reserve. You need your reserves to win. You need your starters more.

One other thought - was anyone else surprised that:

1) Drury was not intentionally walked. I think that's a no brainer in that situation, with a DP candidate like Nido behind him.

2) Drury was not bunting. In the post game interview, Baez admitted he thought Drury would be bunting.

But it all worked out, so it's all good.

Yankees fans everywhere still celebrating Cessa's departure.
And in a doubleheader of delight the Reds took Justin Wilson as well.
Excellent moves by the front office.

There's no getting hot for Conforto. He had a little stretch a few weeks ago but subsequently has returned to who he now is. It's one thing to be hitting for a low average. Lots of guys are doing that across MLB. Yet many are at least hitting for power. Hell Suarez on the Reds is hitting below .180. But at least he's still a power threat as shown earlier with the bomb he hit. Conforto on the other hand is hitting a soft, weak .197. With no power. Just a bunch of either strikeouts or routine ground balls to second.

On Drury, my feeling is that you ride the hot hand until the slippers fall off. Then Rojas must decide what to do with Conforto. Presuming Nimmo returns, I’d go with a Conforto / Pillar platoon and continue to hope that Conforto gets hot which is getting quite frustrating

Conforto coming off the bench as a late pinch hitter is just not going to work. His rhythm/timing is off. Best way of fixing him is to suck it up and let him get some reps ( and pray the rest of the team can carry him until he figures it out). Remember Alonso was horrible for a few months. We did not bring him in off the bench
