Won't happen. Not Cohen's style. And even if it were, you can't rebuild from the ground up when you're saddled with over $125M next year in just seven (largely untradable) guaranteed contracts. That $125M alone would put the Mets right in the middle of the MLB salary pack.

I think you're probably correct but we have no idea what Cohen's style is in regards to the team.

Well, another year that this team has reduced me too this!!! With that said, still plenty to root for. 😁

Honestly, I didn’t know Javy Baez was available during the season. I would’ve gone after him instead of Lindor last Spring.

There was no need - none - to saddle ourselves with a SS this season given the abundance of free agent SSs this off season . Mets could have had choice of Correa / Baez / Lindor / Seager / Story etc. this off-season.
The big splash trade should have been Arenado and the signing of one off the SSs at a relatively bargain price this off-season.

Yup. But we had a couple of Sandy hires running the show. How that worked out?

I don't think Baez was available until it became clear to the Cubs that they weren't going anywhere this year; you'll remember there was a time earlier this season when the Cubs led the NL Central. Then they lost over ten in a row, I think, and they decided to move on from the core of the 2016 team.

Classic Mets to have deGrom/Syndergaard ready to go soon now that the playoff dreams are over. If we were on the way to the postseason, you can almost book at 100% certainty they would have been done for the year.

I still want to see what Story does when not playing for the Rockies. The fact he only wanted to look for balls to pull during the HR Comp was a little worrisome.
I'll be honest though, I think we all end up happy more years then not with Lindor and he is in the top 2 or 3 categories with D Wright by the time his career is over here.
I think we do end up with Baez at 2B.
Question for the OF next year though...Is S Marte still good enough to be roaming CF? He is a guy I have wanted for a couple of years.
And keep in mind, I believe K Bryant is a FA this year too. Would love to see Cohen go after these guys, tax or not. Both were aquired through trades this year and wouldn't cost the Met's picks...At least, that is what I think but may be wrong.

Syndergaard is by no means ready to go. He isn't throwing any curves or sliders for fear he will reinjure his arm. He topped out at 95 yesterday, which is fast but not Thor quality. He can't go more than an inning at a time. They'll bring him up next week because why not. But TBH if the Mets did make the playoffs, I'm not at all sure he'd be activated, at least for the first round.

DeGrom is further behind.

The only good coming out of this is that there is zero chance deGrom gets traded for a pile of prospects now since no one knows if he’ll ever be the same. The tear-down will have to begin without him.

I don't see a full tear down coming, but it depends on who's coming in to run the show I guess.

The problem is...just how do you tear it down? Anyone we try to trade, we will be trading on a downside. It looks obvious that Davis and Smith will be gone as they seem to be afterthoughts at this point. But what do we get for them now?

tear down would be foolish. we have a talented young core with Alonso, Baez, Conforto, Lindor and make sure they are retained. We need to add some very professional veterans provide better clubhouse leadership, and one more big hitter to round out the lineup, and hope that Thor and DeGrom are back to full strength next season. And fire Rojas.

Can't call Baez and Conforto part of the core, as they are free agents, as are Thor and Stroman. Impossible to make sure they are retained, although money does talk.

Prior to this year, I had Conforto on my "Met for Life" list. But I have cooled off on him, mostly because he is a Boras client and I don't want to spend that type of money after the year he had unless he accepts a qualifying offer. I would sign Baez and Stroman though. Never will cost a pick. Would also extend a qualifying offer to Noah as well. At least we would get a pick if he goes elsewhere and he may be on the cheap so he can prove himself.
Bring Loup back- I do try to sign Baez and then maybe go for a S Marte or Bryant on the market. Again, neither would cost us a pick. If we want to try to move cNeil, Smith, Davis- so be it. Let's see what the market is for them.

Rockies lose in extras and Angels lose
One back of LA and now 2 back of Rockies for top 10 protected pick

too many seasons looking at mock drafts before season is over.
Devils
Giants
Knicks
Mets

yeah I meant that they are our core if re-signed. Cohen being the big shot of the owners should make sure of that. we don't need to keep being the cheap lovable little brother in NYC anymore. Retain the talent and then acquire more. Out Yankee the Yankees and Dodgers.

Loveable ?
You're kidding, right ?

Now it's time for Cohen to start firing people for the collapse of a team who was in first place for half of the season. Someone has to take responsibility for this sh*t show.

If Conforto goes to another organization, they will fix him just like Wheeler has been fixed. He won’t get it done here.

First order of business is to shit-can Rojas. Only Callaway was a worse Mets manager but it’s close. I like Marte a lot. Baez did well here but I’m ok with letting him go. Not his fault, but the team tanked right after after we got him and I have to wonder if anyone other than Lindor thinks he’s as big a positive in the clubhouse as some do. For all the good he brings, he also brings KOs and distractions. Conforto can take an hike after an atrocious season.. if he’s staring next year, I think this team is in huge trouble. This team is a very long way from contending and I fear if the season went 6 more weeks, this would be a last place team. This team has no fight and no leaders right now. The simply have quit. No reason not to being up a couple of the top prospects right now.

I want Baez here. Team tanked because Jake got hurt and Rojas killed the bullpen,

Rojas and Scott will certainly be let go. Rojas won't even have to be fired, his contract runs out and they'll just announce it is not being renewed. The only question is whether they retain anyone from the coaching staff. My guess is no.

Then the real work of finding the right POBO begins.

I can see Hefner being retained unless new President/ GM / Manager want entire new staff

If Baez plays anywhere like he has since getting here, I sign him in a second…but, 5 years max.
If you tell me my inf starts with Alonso, Baez, Lindor- I am 100% ok with that.
here is the thing though, does Cohen want to win ASAP or is he ok with the long play? Because he most likely needs to pay LT for a couple of years if he wants to win it in deGrom’s career. And deGrom is the dividing line.

Rank your favorite mishap from 2021:
1) Lindor albatross
2) GM fiascoes
3) “We got this”
4) Raccoon fight
5) Walker from all-star to scrub
6) deGrom finished in 2nd half
7) Thumbs down to fans

Going with 1 since he will drain me for the next decade

Lindor is last on my list. He helped in getting Baez. When healthy both he and Baez along with Pete make a heck on a infield. You did not include Rojas mismanagement of team. To me Rojas and GM 1 and 1A on the list.

I think Lindor will prove you wrong. Losing DeGrom was the biggest blow.

Frank Frank Frank- your hate of Lindor in your playoff fantasy baseball is getting the best of you. lol Over the next decade- I still contend he becomes a fan favorite and sits up with D Wright as either 1 or 2 in most hitting categories. Also a great fielder
My top is the GM fiasco(s) doomed us from the start through finish.
deGrom is number 2. if he had been healthy all year- we would still be up there. And there just seemed to be such mismanagement of his injuries all year
Walker is up there too. WTF 2nd half killed us.
2/3 happened just as our offense started to score. If we had 1st half deGrom/Walker in the 2nd half, we walk away with it.
We got this/raccoon/thumbs down down bother me so much now.

I also agree with above that Rojas has to be up there. And behind that, how about our continued suck ass training staff and medical?

Now- let's look at some fan opinion FU's that ended up in our favor.
Bauer - wow, aren't we glad we F'd that one up
Springer- we got the same season out of Pillar that we would have gotten from Springer and not stuck with a massive contract.
JBJ - total failure of a season

In truth, I do co-own a fantasy playoff website so the Lindor thing in October drains me more than it would for most.

The Mets were in the bottom half of MLB in innings pitched by the bullpen. 17 teams used their bullpen more than the Mets.
Again he killed the bullpen. He way over used certain pitchers and constantly called up barely minor league arms. Using your bullpen MUCH DIFFERENT then using it CORRECTLY

None of that makes sense. But stick with your position that somehow the manager and not the bullpen was the problem with the bullpen—to the extent it was ever really a problem.

The Tank appears unstoppable at this point, although I expect the Angels and Rockies to offer serious resistance.

In other news, Noah Syndergaard opened for Syracuse again tonight. 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 K. I expect he will meet the team in NY and continue in the opener role, possibly as early as Tuesday. Why opener? So he can warm up in the starter's routine with which he is familiar.

A number of things factor in. But, whatever the contributing factors, the Mets bullpen was worded less than most bullpens, not overworked.

If you wanna win you should probably try to score some runs.
The Mets O scared no one.
