Mets have signed side-arm right-handed pitcher Tom Hackimer to a minor league deal.

My 4 year old son is a baseball nut... i probably pitch to him 100+ pitches per day, he's always wearing his degrom, or alonso mets jersey and mets hat....
I just bought tix for our first game together next friday, day game against the phillies, (game 1 of doubleheader)... he's been beaming every since. He can't wait, i can't wait either.
If he saw an alonso home run live i think it would be the highlight of his young life... ha,

You probably know this, but it's a single admission doubleheader. In theory, you can stay for both games. Of course, with a four year old there is no chance of that. Starting him off with a seven inning game was a wise choice.

I didn't see the game only the highlights. Barnes is still a bum but he definitely should have had a strike on the 1-1 pitch to Tatis. Big, big difference between 2-1 and 1-2.
Even a blind person could see Reid-Foley is a better pitcher than Bad News Barnes. I never understood why Reid-Foley was sent down, and Barnes was given several opportunities to blow games. 😫 Some of the decisions made by the Mets are what frustrates most of us. I didn't see the entire game yesterday, but I was told some of the most during the last half of the game were questionable and contributed to the loss. This is why fans get upset.

The short answer as to why guys like Reid-Foley and Drew Smith get sent down as opposed to somebody else is that the Mets have options on them. They'd have to DFA Barnes, and I guaran-damn-tee you he'd get claimed. Heck, Daniel Freakin' Zamora got claimed.

I'm not saying that's a good answer. I'm just saying that's the answer.

What I can't understand is why the Mets, knowing that they have an upcoming need for starters, aren't stretching Reid-Foley out.

I don't think we see Almora back by the way. He'll just stay in AAA.
I think they keep him for a while and DFA Williams, who has been a useful stopgap but doesn't really have a role going forward. Any role he might have had has been usurped by McKinney.

Sounds like McNeil back any day now too. Will be great to see an outfield start with Smith, Nimmo, Conforto again, knowing that we have Pillar and group ready to go at the end of games, PH, fill in rolls and if or someone goes down again. Same with McNeil back Pereza to the bench is great! Same reasons as above. Davis/Villar will be the really tough one. But very soon we will have a starting team and a bench that are all capable of performing. Been saying for a long time, this is how Championship teams are built.

3 guys that could potentially start the AS game as well. lol
True, but it is also possible that deGrom is their sole representative. Probably only 12 pitchers will be selected, and there are SO many outstanding NL pitchers this year.

Figure these guys are locks:

deGrom, of course
Gausman (7-1, 1.43 ERA. 0.78 WHIP)
Woodruff (5-2, 1.52 ERA, 0.72 WHIP)
Rogers (7-3, 2.02 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, maybe Miami's only selection)
Scherzer (5-4, 2.21 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and he's Mad Max)

That's five starters. Then you figure these four closers make it: Melancon, Kimbrel, Hader, and Reyes. All have at least 16 saves and an ERA under 1.

So that's nine locks IMO. Now pick three from the following nine: Stroman, Walker, Bauer, Wheeler, Bueller, Peralta, Darvish, Musgrove, and Jansen.

Is/are there ferry(ies) running from Highlands or Middletown to Citi Field?

We went to the June 2 game against the Diamondbacks. About 20 rows behind Mets dugout, with great views of Alonso at first and in the dugout. $52/ticket, which probably would be a lot more at Citi. Pete toss balls over the netting in between each inning as he came off the field. Even though we did not get a ball, being so close, was one of the highlights of my old life. [roll]Taking young kids to their first game is such a special time for parents/kids.

I think Bauer becomes a lock even if his number end up behind some of the others. If Stroman and Walker throw up a few more gems, one of the two most likely make it as well.

At 84 years old,Rick Herrscher is the oldest living Mets' player who started his career with them.Several older players are still around with Dave Hillman being the oldest at 93,but the 1962 third baseman was an original Met,the last one living.

May your wish be granted.

Just couldn’t give him one more 🤦‍♂️
Rojas is like a robot. He is the reason the bullpen is overworked, and the starters are underused. He has no feel for the game. Sometimes, the game works to its own beat. Peterson broke form, and because this was different, you don't approach the situation the same way. Every game is not like a cookie-cutter, with everything fitting neatly into place.

Diaz- A day off does wonders. Oh and how come I've never heard of Xavier Scruggs? One more thing-It might not be a popular opinion here but I wouldn't mind at all if they went with a Nimmo/Pillar platoon in CF going forward.

He will always remember his 1st game. My dad took me to a Mets game, and it was Ron Swoboda bat day. I treasured that bat always. Came home for winter break from RU. Went to my closet, and bat was gone. Long story short my mom threw it out! Didn't speak to her for months.

Great post. Both of you will never forget the 1st game. It will be remembered as a very special moment.

I don't think the reason May got torched is due to overwork. He hasn't pitched in a week.
My point is more that Rojas can't break from his routine, and it's due to inexperience. Unfortunately, that inexperience may cost the Mets down the stretch. When it comes to May, teams have hit him hard of late. Teams are sitting on his pitches. Four of May's last five games have been rough. Arizona lit him up twice, San Diego got into his kitchen, and now Chicago. May has to work on a few things because he's struggling all around.

Howie Rose metioned yesterday that McNeil may play the OF when he returns.

Does that make sense? I like the OF with Smith; Pillar; Conforto; McKinney etc and then Nimmo shortly.

I think you gain a lot more with Mc neil at 2b offensively and then you can bring in Guillorme late in games defensively.

Can't ever remember Mets being in a position of having so much offensive depth.

Can see a trade down the road with Mc Neil or JD Davis being involved for a SP - especially with the uncertainty of Carrasco and Noah.
