OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Are you saying he's not injured or are you claiming you thought his inhuman pace was going to continue the entire season?
I am saying exactly what I said. I don't know that he's injured. Hell, HE doesn't know that he's injured (as least not seriously enough to miss any time) so how would I know?

I’m worried about Jake’s injury mostly because of how poorly the Mets med staff has been about these types of thing..,
With that said...of course Met fans are worried. Not only for the team but we are watching perfection like no one has seen before.
10 starts and he has not given up more than 1 run in any of them. If he is ok and continues- not only CY but may even run away with MVP as well.
no one would want to miss that.

Sounds like this was the post-game discussion last night:

METS: So Jake, we've scheduled you for an MRI on your elbow.

DEGROM: Nah, don't need one. I can tell this probably isn't serious.

METS: OK man, you know best.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???

DeGrom now has more RBI than earned runs allowed.
1/3 into the season- I would doubt that this has ever happened before? Maybe Ruth back when he pitched. But for "true" pitchers...this is a crazy stat that I don't think gets enough attention.

The unhappiest fan base for a first place team
You'd think that if you just read this board, no doubt. Maybe I never noticed it when I visited this thread in the past, or maybe the atmosphere has changed more recently. But it's now loaded with one reactionary post after another offering either complaints that are too often like what you read about coaches and backup quarterbacks or, instead, over-the-top expressions of how good the Mets are and that a "special" season is on the way. The internet and message boards get this way an awful lot, and at least for now this thread has veered in that direction.

I guess Jacob is finally fed up. He seems to be saying if you won't drive in runs for me, I'll drive in my own damn runs.
The gap between him and an average pitcher is astonishing.

Not for nothing but we may have a damn good team- 3 starters that are mostly lights out, Luchessi who can give us 4 innings...mostly good bullpen and a bench that will be dangerous when fully healthy.
we get to the playoffs where it is all about 3 starters...we could make a huge run
Agree mostly ...but lots of playoff games become bullpen games .

If deGrom stays on his every fifth day rotation, his upcoming starts are:
Wed 6/16 vs Cubs
Mon 6/21 vs Braves (7 inn.)
Sat 6/26 vs Phillies
Thu 7/1 @ Braves
Tue 7/6 vs Brewers
Sun 7/11 vs Pirates

That would take right up to the All Star break, and likely make him unavailable for the All Star game.

Alternatively, the Mets could choose to stay in rotation, which would mean he gets an extra day of rest when the Mets have their one remaining off day before the break. Which would mean:
Wed 6/16 vs Cubs
Mon 6/21 vs Braves (7 inn.)
Sun 6/27 vs Phillies
Fri 7/2 @ Yankees
Wed 7/7 vs Brewers

This would give deGrom full rest prior to the ASG, and put him in a position to start the game and pitch multiple innings. It also matches him up against the Yankees. But it means one fewer start.

My preference would be for the Mets to take the former path, but I strongly suspect it will be the latter.

If I am the Met's, he doesn't pitch a single inning at the All Star game...

With that- consider if he is able to make those 6 starts. That would mean about 40 innings and 55-60K...Would have him around 160k at the AS break with only about 100 innings...
BTW- the other completely insane stat with deGrom- 103k and only 8 walks.

Linder is just fun to watch. Granted we are paying a lot of money to see him but he just makes the team better. Great attitude and hustle. Bat slowly coming around. Love watching him in the field

Lindor and McCann playing much better. Alonso as well. And as much as I like Pillar and the other guys filling in, if/when Nimmo, McNeil, Conforto get back- wow. I left Davis out of that comment as much as I like him, Villar is the one backup that make be equal to who he is replacing. Would love to get Lindor on a 2-3 year contract, it may free up Davis for a trade to an AL team.
Lugo being back may also be the game changer.
also looking like we need to spend Noah’s money on keeping Stroman. Love pitching him after they just faced deGrom’s heat.
It does feel like there is something special with this team.

Great series win!! Let's try and get that sweep tomorrow. Team is fun and resilient so far!!!!

My wife and I had a great time at the game today in the 7 Line Army section! Great win for the Mets and hopefully tomorrow they get the sweep…
Cool. I was at Mets game as well today with my partial season ticket package. Was a fun game and lively crowd....

What was that chant 7 Line Army was yelling after every K?

Tough night for Eickhoff in Syracuse. Five innings, six ER.

Mets will need seven starters for doubleheader week. They have three. I am sure they will figure something out, but I don't know what.

I know that bullpen games are a possibility. Problem is, with your 4 and 5 starters right now, every game is a bullpen game. How much can they be asked to do?

The Athletic ran a story a while ago about the most likely trade candidate on each of the 30 teams. Their Mets selection shocked me. It was #2 prospect Ronny Mauricio.

Their explanation made some sense. Mets are wedded to Lindor at SS for the next 10 years. One would have thought that they would have handed Mauricio an outfielder's glove and pointed him toward center field. They didn't. Why not? Because they want to build up his trade value at SS, a premium position.

I doubt Mauricio's going anywhere. But if the Mets don't move him off SS by next spring, I won't be so sure.
They should be training him at 2B. As far as I know they don't have a top prospect at that position. Him, Alvarez and Baty are a good young nucleus.

Need to stretch out Luchessi. Last 3,starts very good but need at least 5-6 from him.
