If I was Bassitt, I would have went ballistic to ump. By the same token , our offense has a bunch of Eric Campbells in it. Also why give Machado something to hit when Mazara up next? 20/20 hindsight but that’s what we do.

Everyone has forgotten how to hit and the lineup from about #6 on down is just dead weight. It seems when Nimmo stopped getting on base, the offense became trash.

sorry I thought I was replying to a post about the Brooklyn cyclones playing the jersey shore blue claws last night. We were in Lakewood for that game. Great little stadium and a great Friday night environment.
got to see Alex Ramirez the young Mets prospect. Pretty impressive looking outfielder.

Well we got one of our specialties, the bloop hit. I was hoping for our other best offensive play. The wild pitch. Bases weren't loaded so couldn't get the run scoring walk or hit by pitch.

What an god awful approach to hitting.
Right hander hitting off the opposite side and getting jammed by sliders
Haven’t watched the Mets since you guys played us @ San Diego, but your guys just don’t look comfortable at the plate tbh.

When you played us in SD you guys looked more aggressive and more explosive at the plate

Can’t wait for ESPN to spend entire game showing lowlights and talking about Mets collapses from the past !!!
GMs must salivating waiting to get a phone call from a desperate Mets organization

What are your needs?

You guys aren’t doing to collapse, you lost two low scoring games against a potential NLCS team. It’s not like you just lost to the Nats.

Isn't it obvious? We can't hit. We can't score. We've scored 10 runs total in our last 5 games. Been shut out 5 times in our last 40 something games. In most of the others we've scored 1-3 runs. Scored tonight only because of a bleeder that dropped in the shallow outfield. That's the kind of offense we were winning lots of games with earlier. But bloopers and seeing eye hits are not a sustainable offense. Scouting reports are going to be adjusted. Teams are going to play the outfield a little more shallow so less of those bloopers drop in. Teams are going to shift less against you. You've got to be able to drive the ball. Other teams get a mistake and hit it 400 feet. We get one and foul it away or pop it up. In hitters counts. Not to mention how many down the middle fastballs we either swing right through or look at. Just before flailing at a pitch 6 inches low and away or down and in at the ankles.

To me Alonso is a butcher at first base - not every game but every third game he will do something in the field that makes you scratch your head. Like if I where starting a team who would I want Alonso or Soto? Soto every time. And whats up with the dead lifts pre home run derby & the meditation - weird? He looked like a jackass. Id trade Alonso for Soto and whatever else they want - Id keep McNeil - Alvarez and ship the lot to DC. DeGrom is done - hasnt pitched in a year and if he could come back - he would opt out of his contract for next year so that is Fools Gold for Gary Cohen who I think would blow him if given the opportunity. Peace out

We’ve seen this movie before
NO WE HAVE NOT. (And yes, I am shouting.)

The first reel of the 2021 movie was VERY different that the 2022 first reel. First half of last year, we had a bunch of AAAA position players (affectionately known as the bench mob) trying to hold the fort. Yet the team was in first place for most of the year. Why? Because the starting pitching was insanely good. Insanely good. It was led by the best pitcher on earth having the best season in the history of the earth. Walker and Stroman both had all-star first halves. Walker was recognized for it, Stroman was not. And an unknown rook named Tylor Megill made an early bid for Rookie of the Year.

Then in the second reel of the movie, the drama turned tragic. The starting pitching collapsed. We know what happened to deGrom. Walker had a terrible second half. Megill came back down to earth. Carrasco came back from injury and stunk up the joint. Peterson went down with injury. Deadline acquisition Rich Hill was meh. Only Stroman held up.

And that is why the movie had a sad ending. Starting pitching. Despite the fact that the offense actually picked up in the second half, having been given a jolt of adrenaline by Javier Baez.

So now let's look at the 2022 movie, what we've seen so far. VERY DIFFERENT. Both the hitting and the pitching have been solid for the year as a whole, despite the recent offensive woes. And how's this for a plot twist? The best pitcher on earth is coming back. And he has the guy who is arguably the second best as his sidekick.

None of us know how this movie will end. But no, we haven't seen it before.

Any reason why MCNeil , an all star and probably our best hitter, didn’t pinch hit at end of game? Nido hitting at the end of the game is a disgrace. Don’t want to hear the lefty / righty angle. We all know Nido is awful offensively and with an arm / hand injury as well. Ugh. Very bad managerial decision by Buck.

Agreed Alonso is a below average first baseman. When Dom was on the roster, he should have been on first every time he was in the lineup, with Alonso at DH. I guess that would have given Alonso the sads though, and we can't have that.

There is no point in comparing Alonso to Soto, because there is no comparison. As an all-around position player, Soto is Top 5 at minimum. Alonso is maybe Top 25. Not a criticism; Top 25 is pretty damn good.

Your criticism of deGrom (and Cohen) is most unfair. Yes, he is a question mark until proven otherwise. But to say he is done? Admit it, you just pulled that out of your ass. If he is healthy of course he is opting out. He has made no secret of that. Let him win a WS for us this year, and he can leave with our thanks and blessings.

Fair question. You may not want to hear the lefty/righty angle, but it does exist. McNeil has been in a prolonged slump, and Nido has actually been pretty good in pressure situations with RISP. I could have gone either way with this.

My feeling is you win or lose with your best - not with your best on the bench.

My confidence level is 100x greater with Mc Neil - even in a slump - hitting against a lefty than Nido with the game on the line

Mets pitching allows for good rotation match ups against all the weaker teams they play in the second half.
It could very well mean Atlanta still wins the division because quite simply they are the better team.
So, it looks like the wild card will hold firm

I agree. The difference from last year is that there is an extra wild card and there are not 6 NL teams better than the Mets. They will get a wild card but they are not better than the Braves, regardless of them winning 2 of 3 in Atlanta recently.

I can’t see us missing the playoffs but these two games may really force the hands of the front office to make a real trade deadline move for offense.
We can’t get 3 hits from Alonso and be shut out.
it almost feels like this team has been reading too much about how their earlier approach to offense can’t work for a full season and they are all pressing for the 6 run HR.
