Vientos is a high price for what is essentially a Mancini rental. Mancini and the O's have a $10M mutual option for next year. Mutual option means BOTH parties must exercise the option, which very rarely happens.

I haven't seen anything on that. I am by no means saying this trade will happen. No one is reporting that it's a done deal. However, I do think that Mancini not playing tonight is relevant.

Are you far away? For us, it is a hike. Drive 35 minutes to Metropark Train Station. Take train to NY Penn. Take LIRR or 7 train to Citi. A lot of travel. The drive from Monmouth County to Flushing is not fun. Seastreak used to run ferries from Highlands to Citi, but no more.
According to some on Twitter earlier he's in an O for 22 stretch. So that could have factored into him sitting.
From the list would not the right hand bats make more sense since we just traded for a lefty bat from the Pirates?
BTW- with Peterson pitching in relief a sign of him going to the bullpen when deGrom comes back? Or were they just trying to get him some work in?
I like Megill in relief more than Peterson due to the latter's tendency to walk batters as well as nibble around the plate and fall behind in counts.
It's funny- I just went back to look to see who I would prefer to go to the pen as it seems that Peterson has been pretty consistent all year. But looking at the last month- every single starter- including Williams has been a rock star. Looks like deGrom/Max/Bassitt/Walker/Carasco
If Jake stays healthy- I'm not sure I have ever seen a rotation plus 2(7 deep) that are this good.
I would say that many teams over the years have not even had a top 3 that were as good as Bassitt/Walker/Carasco or Peterson
A lot of our season and hope really does rely on deGrom. We will make the playoffs regardless but if Jake is Jake- it makes a team that not many would want to face in a short series
I don't think at this point, Megill is as good as Walker/Carasco, Peterson - but if he gets back healthy and if May gets back in good shape too- having May/Megill/Peterson in the pen is pretty damn good. If we can get a setup guy- that would be insane.
Would also love if the new big guy- not going to try his name haha works out as a lefty DH. I kind of like his attitude. And in 75 games he gave the Pirates 12 HR and 34 rbi with a .338 OBP we have 66 games left- if he can give us 9-10 HR 30 RBI ...
My problem is a little bit on depth...when you look at our bench most day- it is really really bad.
You're being a bit hyperbolic with that one. I could find a lot of teams that had a better top 3 than these guys. Carrasco has an E.R.A over 4 and Bassitt high 3's just using basic metric. 2021 Dodgers had 5/6 better pitchers than that.
If deGrom is on his game, what three can you find these days that are better than deGrom, Scherzer, and Walker?
He didn't say deGrom and Scherzer. He said a top 3 as good as Walker/Bassitt/Carrasco.
You throw healthy deGrom, Scherzer, and this year's Walker then it becomes a lot different.
I'm going tonight from Fair Haven... dreading the commute there/back. Taking train from Red Bank to Penn (90 mins) then Penn LIRR to Mets Stadium. Getting back is the issue, if I miss the 10:20 home from Penn next one isn't until 11:20. Home at almost 1am.
No chance you get the 10:20 unless you leave early! This game won't end until around then and that's not even including your LIRR back to Penn.

Once you get to the 9pm or later and trains are an hour apart- just accept it as it is and don't stress about it. If you miss the 10:20 because it was a great game and you are having a great time- then get home later and be tired the next day- it really will have very little effect in your life. Enjoying the game without stress will be what you remember, not what time you get home or how you felt the next day. 12 or 1am- who cares?
I was at that game too! It started at 8:40. I remember wondering if the trains would still be running after the game. I parked in Newark, so worst case we could take the PATH back to Newark.
Your car was still there? Three years at Seton Hall Law. Had multiple friends had their cars stolen. I was driving a junker. If I left it running on the street, nobody would steal it.
There is an enclosed, secured 24-hour lot across from Newark Penn. Have parked there many times with no issues.
