Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez going to Cincy makes this even worse. Acuna was impressing and both of these guys were top 30 Mets prospects at this point. Acuna is better than anyone the Yanks gave up yesterday.

Naquin can't hit lefties and can't field. Basically Vogelbach junior.

Eppler a big time 0-2 here.
I check it pretty regularly as in several times a week on the Mets team website on mlb.com and I have never seen either of these guys on the Mets top 30 prospects list. In fact I have never heard of either of them.

Something tells me Alderson still has considerable influence on baseball decisions.

Will take some AB’s from Canha vs RHP
Jankowski in a 0-forever stretch.
Could see Naquin and Vogel in lineup tonight vs Alcantara.

They don't really update that list throughout the year. If there was a full rerank these guys most likely would be in the 25-30 range.

I believe that MLB.com will do a full rerank in August, after the trading deadline has passed and the 2022 draftees have signed.

I have to assume that both Dom and JD will be gone by Tuesday along with Jankowski. If everyone was hitting you can keep Jankowski for speed and late D. But this team needs bats, although the two we acquired are not difference makers. If you can secure Robertson for the pen, who although right handed is tough on lefties and a right handed power bat, this team has a real chance to go deep in the playoffs.

Hoping for the Robertson/Contreras trade. Desperately want the 8th inning guy.

Big night for our top 4 guys. I would sell on Mauricio and then try to keep the other big 4 around. I think they're thinking too hard about Vientos and he's going to hit at this level and with power. Alonso almost had the same issue before he came up.

Yeah I forget the timing of everything.

Haven't seen it but it appears our 3rd round pick from this years draft Brandon Sproat will be unlikely to sign.

Was really hoping Alcantara pitched yesterday. Of course he throws against us tonight. Marlins are a pain to play against with that pitching staff.

Hmmm. He is a third year college guy, right? If he doesn't sign, then he loses all negotiating leverage for next year, no?

You're correct. Odd decision by him unless his team is leaking this to Callis for some type of negotiation ploy.

. . . I think they're thinking too hard about Vientos and he's going to hit at this level and with power. Alonso almost had the same issue before he came up. . . .
Alonso's minor league numbers were, of course, far superior to Vientos': higher BA, way higher OPS; way higher SLG; struck out less. They are not close to comparable prospects. I believe the hold-up in Pete's promotion, which didn't last long, related to defense.

Vientos has been a year younger at each level and it's really close numbers wise. It wasn't an exact comp just that we're over thinking the bat. Vientos also coming from HS so Alonso mashed Low A coming from an SEC school.

Alonso had a 139 wRC+ in AAA and Vientos as of today is at 124 wRC+ not including his 154 last year. Standard numbers with Vientos a year younger .261/.343/.511 and Alonso was .260/.355/.585.

We're going to have to just disagree on the Vientos/Alonso comparison. I don't see it as close.
He doesn't have to be Alonso- not many are. I'm ok if he is just 80% Alonso

Just doesn't make any sense not to bring him up. What the hell else does this kid have to do?

Yeah I wasn't saying Vientos is Alonso 2.0....

I'm saying the Mets FO is over thinking this one by not having him up yet. His numbers are very similar to Alonso's and he hit just fine when he was called up. Yes different FO but with the gaping hole we've had at DH it didn't make sense to hold him down to see what he could do here before giving up other assets for DH spot.

If Vientos pulls a Lee and after his HR plummer kid will lose value before deadline. Has 3 bad days and goes 0-11 with 6 K’s who would want that. Mets will keep mystery and promise alive until Aug 3rd if he is still with Mets

He has to be better than JD Davis, because that's whose job he'd be taking. Unless JD departs, which could happen.

Or if the Mets acquire a righty bat as expected, then he's SOL for at least a month.

Or he could be in the bigs on Tuesday, in another uniform.

I suspect that by 6:00 PM on Monday, all will be revealed.

I am confident that if a team likes Vientos enough to acquire him at the deadline, the scenario you describe will not deter them. That said, the only way Vientos immediately comes up is if Davis is moved.

What I'd like to know is what they're waiting for to move Baty up to AAA.
They'll probably move him next week after the trade deadline or they could be waiting for the Somerset/Binghamton series in Jersey to be over which starts Tuesday.

This weekend is going to be interesting. Would love to see the next move come sooner than Tues as every game is important. On the other hand waiting till the last minute might get us a better deal in terms of the ask. Guess I have to sweat it out and wait and see.

You've made the Alonso comparison several times and just did it here again. We strongly disagree on that.

I have to say you're being dense on this one. Just to spell it out for you I don't expect Vientos to hit exactly as Alonso has or have the same exact career path.

As you said we'll just disagree.
