I wonder if Nats will have to give anything to Hosmer for him to accept. Tack on an option or something.

C'mon, Eric, just say no and maybe the deal crashes.
He has a no trade clause with 10 teams, including the Nats. But his wife works for Fox News? 🤷‍♂️

We got to sign Diaz, no questions asked.
Nimmo is going to ask for a boat load of money. Boras is his agent. That's a problem.
I would love to re-sign Walker because you can never have enough starting pitching.
Trevor Williams has turned out to be a good fit for the Mets. Sign him as long as it's not too expensive.
Re-sign May, but make it with incentives
Bassitt is an option that both sides must invoke. If you can't keep most of the starters, then keep Bassitt.
I'm OK with letting the rest of the free agents walk.
I wonder if Nimmo is as valuable to other teams as he is to us?

If the Mets don't make any big moves today, do you go after Judge in the off-season? I know the Mets have $150 million tied to 7 players, but you have to be creative. Trade McCann for minor leaguers. Fill in some spots with the talented minor leaguers—just a thought.

The Hader thing smells of a small market team unable to hang onto a quality player, so move him to get something out of it. The next question is, did the Brewers concede the winning a pennant and/or a World Series?
It's definitely a small market team issue, but I have been impressed with the Brewers ability to remain competitive and re-tool on the fly without ripping everything down. They may think that this isn't the year and that getting multiple guys back for one reliever will get them there in the future. And with all that, once you get in the playoffs, anything can still happen.

SD gave up 2 former top 10 prospects (1 SP and 1 SS), a current top 20 prospect, current top 90 prospect and then an organizational top 15 and got rid of their albatross contract for Soto and Bell.

Yeah, sounds like a pretty good haul to me.

It is 100% anti Cohen in my eyes. But, I believe that if it isn't this year, he will still get the last laugh.

Mets couldn’t match this Padres offer.

Padres gave up two former Top 10’s. A current top 20 and 80ish. A 14th ranked prospect. And Hosmer.

Alvarez, Baty, and Ramirez match the top 10, 20, and 80ish.

Mets don’t have that extra top 10 prospect (Gore) and they don’t have a major leaguer as good as Hosmer they would be willing to move. I guess they could have offered Peterson but Gore’s has been a top prospect for years and thought of much more than Peterson around the league.

I'm curious, if the DC team is for sale and you have two more years of control after this one for Soto, don't you keep him as an asset and let the new owner decide what to do with him?

I thought the same thing but they have the 5th highest payroll in the game right now.
It gives them options. They also haven't won a WS ever so if they can win one in the next 2 years it'll be worth it. They could recoup prospects by trading Soto or maybe they'd sign him and try to offload Machado or Tatis. Who knows what will happen in next 2.5 years but credit to them.

Not sure if it is better for sale of team if he were there or not but a very good question none the less. Since Nats got their WS probably better to strip it down.

LFGGGGGG!!!!!

1. Profar
2. Tatis
3. Soto
4. Machado
5. Bell
6. Voit
7. Crone
8. Nola/Alfaro
9. Grisham

Rotation: 1. Darvish, 2. Musgrove 3. Clevinger 4. Manaea/Snell

Someone pinch me.

Now slowly hitting refresh for any pitcher whose predominant responsibility is not the first. 😩

Hosmer has a no trade clause. He'll surely get extra $$ to agree to be traded.
I’m sure he’ll waive that clause if he hasn’t already because most of them are Boras guys. But it would be hilarious if he sticks with it and refuse to go to Washington because he doesn’t want to suffer through all of that losing.

What’s the point of having it if their going to make you waive it lol?

The point of having it is that NOBODY can make you waive it.

EDIT: But they CAN make you wish you had!

Zero chance he shuts it down.

He’ll get something out of it, but that man would never be able to show his face in San Diego again.

As of now Hosmer hasn't accepted the deal. As I said the Nats are probably going to have to throw on an option year that would be easily attainable or just make it a player option.

Looks like NO ONE wants to deal with Cohen unless he gives up Alonso and all of their their Top 10 Prospects.
Consider the Mets' issue with trying to hire a GM last year, and now possible trades smell like a conspiracy to punish Cohen because everyone feels threatened. Cohen is not a part of the "old boys" network. I say F the Cohen tax and start destroying teams starting this off-season.
