We’ll make sure to let opposing pitcher know he’s a local kid maybe he’ll go easy on him. Gave up too much with Monty

I agree that Monty as a left handed starter who is an innings eater in NY was too much to give up for Bader. But I do understand the thought process though - as Cashman appears to be going all in on Defense this year. Both Bader and Beni are gold gloves and this will move Judge to right and Hicks to the bench. This was at the expense of a 5th starter who (injuries aside) will not matter for the playoffs this year (Monty might not even have made the playoff roster). Severino (if he is able to come back in Sept) has previously proven he can be an asset out of the bullpen if needed in the playoffs.

Next season there will be a starting pitcher gap .....

1) Cole
2) Montas
3) Cortez
4) GAP - resign Taillon or another free agent signing
5) Competition between - German, Schmidt, Marinaccio, Gomez etc.

Given his propensity for issuing walks, I don't want Taillon brought back. Last nite illustrated why.

Yankee defense has been great this year. Boone said he was planning on keeping judge in center and giving Stanton time in right. I get benintendi but mont was ahead of German and no guarantee with Sevy going to the 60. I saw the post game interview mont was almost in tears. Been with yanks 9 years. Pitching against next week

I didn't get to watch today, but what happened to Cole? was he tipping his pitches or did he just suck him pitch #1?

Cole couldn't get anyone out in the first inning. Three home runs...one by some guy namd Kelenic who is hitting .131. Missing its two best hitters, Seattle had one of the worst lineups I've ever seen. Cole actually looked overmatched against them. Some ace.
And they weren't gonna come back from the hole that he put them in against Castillo.
BTW, Aaron Hicks continues to suck. Why is he still on this team ?

Jordan Montgomery lined up to pitch AGAINST the Yankees Friday night.

What happened to the Benintendi that used to play for the Royals and Sox?

As a Mariners fan who always sees the Yankees beat my team, it was nice to see the M's take 2 out of 3. Now I hope they can finish the season strong and make the playoffs for the first time in 20 years.

Not with that lineup. One of the weaker offensive units I've seen this year

The Yankees have another reason to win this weekend:Beating St.Louis may keep them away from the World Series.
The Cards lead the Yanks 3-2 all time, the only team with an edge over them while playing multiple series.
Also, with a Democrat in the White House-regardless whether it's Biden or Harris-the Yankees are 20-1 vs non-Cardinal teams.
I'm with the Yankees all three games-and the three vs Milwaukee in September.

All Benintendi had to do was to return to Missouri.

Salary dump? Where are they after all the trades? We won't know for a day or two the numbers.
Yes, but not Monty's:
Has Hicks been traded yet?
Not for lack of trying. Cash tried to dump both Hicks and Donaldson without success. Getting ready to pay Judge. Guessing he'll try to move them again at hot stove time. Now Monty for Bader makes a little more sense I suppose. Still not a fan from a this season perspective. Never really seems like the organization is willing to push all their chips in the middle and go for broke. Seems like a lot of the games are managed that way too.

Hicks yes. Donaldson no.
Donaldson has quite a track record of producing with the bat AND the glove.
When has friggin Hicks ever produced ? His obvious weakness is why they traded Montgomery for Bader.....I guess. Hicks has no role on this team when Bader and Stanton get activated. Good riddance.

I remember Hicks' negotiations for the 7 year 10 million $ contract. It went on and on and on.
Finally they come to a agreement. He comes into
Camp says his back hurts and misses the whole season.

Hicks batting average over the years:
2013- .192
2014- .215
2015- .256
2016- .217
2017- .266
2018- .248
2019- .235
2020- .225
2021- .194
2022- .221
career average.....232
BTW, he's currently on an 0 for 29 stretch. Definitely in need of an upgrade.

Since the All Star break, this team has resembled teams of the last several years of more than normal KOs and hitting into double plays.

And the strong first half bullpen looks barely average right now.

We might not have to worry about Houston.

Judge is getting very little help. You don't even have to throw Torres a strike to get him to strike out.

Again...Hicks...why, just why?

Now that Gallo is gone I think the fans will turn their attention to the pathetic automatic out that Hicks has become.
0 for his last 31.
How embarrassing must it be to be hitting behind him in the lineup ?

I also thought that if he fielded that single cleanly the runner from second would have been out at the plate and the score would be 0-0. Whatever Hicks brought to this team is long since gone.
Tyler Wade would add more.
And yes...he's in today's starting lineup.

Thought the same thing... he picks it up clean and the guy's likely out at home.

Must have compromising pics of Boone with a hooker?

Still early, but it’s sure looking like the trade deadline deals aren’t paying dividends at all.

It just goes to show you how hard it is to be a successful GM. Everything seemed good about every move (except the Monty one) and so far nothing's come out of them.

His history of late isn't very good.
Well, I don't know what to say. If they don't win this year, I'm assuming he will get fired. However, I'm not sure what else he could have done this year since he isn't clairvoyant. He picked up a good outfielder, a good starting fielder, 2 bullpen pieces at the trade deadline. He did it without giving away any of the top 4 prospects which sounds good to me. Basically, he did what any good GM should do when you have a playoff caliber team.

P.S. I have no idea what to make of the Monty trade until we see the rest of the year play out. I'm not a fan of it.

Taillon goes tonight in Seattle in an attempt to end the 5-game losing streak.

Bummer of an injury to Matt Carpenter.
Foot fracture.
At least Donaldson may have woken up.

Holmes struggled again. Unfortunately, and I never thought I'd say this, time to put Holmes where he's always belonged... the 8th inning and try AC as closer.

Holmes is either injured or mental right now.
