People can crap on Boone all they want, but he saved the night by yanking Chapman when it was clear he didn't have it.

Chapman's a free agent after this year. I'd say there's a 99 percent chance he's not coming back because the Yankees are not spending 17 million on a closer when they have a pen full of flamethrowers on the cheap. Loaisiga is the heir apparent.

There's no way Boone could have left Chapman in after he walked the seven, eight, and nine hitters in the lineup leading off the ninth with a three-run lead and was looking at Springer, Bichette, and Guerrero. Excellent job by King.
BTW, it's never a good idea to draw conclusions on a player after one bad relief effort. Chapman had been fine in his previous efforts this season. I'm sure he'll get another chance or two.

Kbee, I’m the first to defend the modern players because of the pitching they see day in day out.
But the non attempt to protect the plate with two strikes is a completely different approach compared to my day.
Drives me nuts

How Chapman can throw a strike waiting 2 minutes to throw the pitch is beyond me
Ship that mofo to the minor leagues right now and bring in someone that's mentally stable.
'
I'm so goddamn sick of his erratic shit when you never know if he can throw strikes.

BTW: Ship Boone's ass with him.

Why not let Schmidt try to finish the inning? You just knew Chapman would walk in the run.

F’n guy took 120 seconds to throw a 3-2 pitch.
How can a pitching coach allow that to happen

Boone and the staff aren’t built for this , need some real experience and while we are at replacing them , can we replace the analytics team ? They set the lineups , their data is wrong - for years

Yep... something that worked out earlier in the game, but a WTF moment none the less... they intentionally walk a guy that was 0 for 4 to face a guy that was 2 for 3.

It's like they have no ability to use common sense. Game after game.

In regards to Chapman, you just watch, Boone is at the point that he'll bring AC into a 10-1 game just to get him a game where he can't choke away another victory.

This team is pathetic. Strikeouts and more strikeouts.

And I'm now at the point that I'm in the camp of not signing Judge and just starting over. The NYY looks like a team that finishes in 4th place in the East.

Yes, he was only doing select series the last few years that were close to home or based upon some prearranged schedule. He was always great.
Was watching the game and thought "Hey, this is the Orioles, where is Singleton?" Had to Google it. Looks like he had been trying to retire for the last few years years and YES kept talking him out of it. As you stated, Ken was great.

Nestor Cortez is en fuego today. 12 K's through 5, including an immaculate 4th inning, allowing only 2 hits.

Doesn’t matter when you can’t hit and manufacture runs.
I agree, but it's nice to have a homegrown pitcher in the starting rotation that has nasty stuff.

The most perplexing offensive player on the teams is Torres. He has was an absolute stud in the beginning of his career. Now he's hitting on par with Joey Gallo. They should have traded him last year in the offseason when he had some decent value.

Speaking of Nestor, I must've missed this last season. My son just showed me this video today:

Brutal numbers. 16 KOs in 33 AB?

I could do that for a lot less $$$
I feel like as soon as Gallo is gone next year (or this year?) he'll probably start hitting again. He certainly doesn't seem like the type of player who can survive NY. Sonny Gray-esque.

No way. He's a career .205 hitter. I do think you're right that being in New York is not ideal for him.

Yeah, I mean he'll start hitting his average again. Right now he's hitting about .100!

Sticky stuff ban totally killed him. He's gotta find a way around it during the cold months. If that's all it is, he should start coming around in the warm weather.
Here was my original take on Cole when he hit FA...He is a good pitcher but he was not Houston level great. Something changed the moment he joined that team. Went from a 3.50 guy that gave up more hits than K's and a 1.2 ish type Whip guy. All of a sudden 6 hits per 9 innings and over 13k per 9 and under 1.00 WHIP
And we saw other pitchers similar to him join that same staff with very similar improvements.
We are now seeing a hybrid of the Pitt/Hou guy.

And yet another game

Worst part is Gallo's outfield defense has turned to shit.

Brings nothing to the team.
he is just baffling- must be one of these anywhere but NY guys. We all knew he is a .200 hitter but he used to be a 35 HR guy and almost .400 OBP. but to be where he is and not even a single extra base hit...that is just crazy

Looks like Judge may start to take off now but still- this far in and only 5 RBI. DJ, Hicks and Rizzo have been your only consistent hitters and the team BA/OBP/OPS is down around 20 in MLB.
On the other hand- if Mr Cole can find his way...your pitching is very solid.

The Yankees have a lot of good young pitching arms that are finally being given a chance to show their stuff. Cortes and King look fantastic. I never thought I would live to see the day where they actually produced young arms through their own system.

IKF has been excellent after a slow start. You have to ride Trevino until he starts tanking and then hope HIggy picks up the pace. Gallo and Torres are 2 huge lineup holes right now. I'm sure they'll be shopping for an OF upgrade at the deadline. Torres probably becomes trade bait at the end of the season or deadline.
