"Ex"-RU QB Phillip Nelson led East Carolina to victory against Western Carolina yesterday.
He went 28 of 32 for 398 yards and 5TDs. No INTs. Competition gets tougher this week as ECU plays NC State, which is favored by 6.5.

Gotta love them "down east" folk. . .

yeah but Nelson was cleared, right?

"Nelson pleaded guilty to a fifth degree misdemeanor for his actions in a fight outside of a Mankato, Minnesota bar on Sunday, May 11, 2014." He was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. A civil suit is pending.

I thought I read he was not the guy who kicked the guy who started the fight, so cleared of the serious charges first leveled

Nelson did a dumb thing but I always thought he was mostly unlucky. If that night had never happened he would clearly have been the QB last year and this year.

He wasn't the guy that caused the injury. His friend sucker punched the guy and his head hit the pavement.

Isn't "down east", Maine?

Definition of down east
  1. : in or into the northeast coastal section of the United States and parts of the Maritime Provinces of Canada; specifically : in or into coastal Maine

In NC the term "Down East" has evolved to refer to many communities east of the Neuse River, although its origins seem to be a dozen or so towns east of Beaufort. See: http://www.downeasttour.com/communities.htm

But no community on Saturday so it works perfectly.

While the kicked to the head is the sign of a nasty person.. he himself was hit from behind by the guy he kicked and that kick was the first and only contact he made. Just a real unfortunate gut reaction to being attacked.. I could see why he got a deal.

Did Nelson play against the Washington Huskies?

Never mind. I just looked it up - Western Carolina. So, well, good for him. I guess.

Are we going to get weekly Philip Nelson updates this year like with did with Tom Savage after he left RU? Nelson was with RU for like 2-3 weeks.

Well, it is "news" here in NC, given his backstory and his emergence, having excelled in his initial outing. I, for one, will watch with interest this Saturday’s game vs NCSU to see how he fares. And, forgive me, but I may even post an update.

Oh, nothing intended against you. Just hoping we don't have to see a weekly report, especially when our QBs might be faltering. :grimace::cry:

I have absolutely no problem with what happens to a guy who initiates an attack on someone. Especially, if it is from behind.

Well he shouldn't have sucker punched Nelson from behind, hitting him so hard Nelson fell down and hit his head against the concrete, should he?

C'mon Spanky, you shouldn't say things that aren't true. . .

Married Man with child is out starting fights. . . and you didn't even mention the racial epithets slung by Nelson and his boy, while inflicting this damage.

Luckily for Nelson, he almost killed Isaac, or else he would be in jail. Because clearly Isaac could not testify.

Either way, it's an indictment of Flood's culture. And this was before we lost our secondary last year.

sadly, Nelson is better than Laviano.

I, for one, would like to be informed. If somebody has no interest, he can ignore the thread.
