Progress for Griffiths

Game is too fast for him. He would thrive on a DII or DIII.
So you don’t think he could score with Dylan Harper and Ace on the floor?
Defense is certainly an issue and I think he is really a stretch four who is playing at least 20 pounds too light and with 30 more pounds he would be a weapon.

Gavin right now is a spot shooter. Rutgers doesn't run an offense that meshes with his game. Theirs been many times where he's moved to a good spot on the floor, sets up - and the ball never comes

I have seen enough. I am fine with him walking. Is there a chance he turns it around somewhere else? Sure. Though he could be just as much be a bust the rest of his career. One things for sure, he won't be seeing many minutes here next year. I hope he hits the portal and best of luck to him.
Thank fcking god, you don't make personnel decisions for RU basketball...lol. He'll be seeing plenty of minutes next year. The kid isn't a quitter like you.

Looking like a lost year for him unfortunately, barring a late surge. His game just seemed like it was right there, ready to take off - but he just never seems to find the rhythm. Things should really open up for him next year - great opportunity for his skill set.

The expectation were very high but the results have been disappointing.Griffiths was rated one of the best shooters in his senior year in high school.Rutgers needed that outside shooting to replace the loss of Spencer's 14 points. In the game against Minnesota Rutgers shot 4/19 from the 3 point line.Rutgers could have won the game with a couple 3 pointers from Griffiths.I'm sure he isn't a happy camper sitting on the bench for most games.Nobody knows how his college career will turn out.

Why are you guys ready to give up on him? I'm as disappointed as the next person the way this season panned out for him, but look at so many freshman we've had over the years and on other B1G teams as well. Many struggle 1st year and get better as their career goes on. But since wr had high hopes for Griffiths that means no chance he gets better right? Got it

All he has to do is look at the tape of his minutes on the court.
It’s pretty easy for him to see why he’s not out there.

"getting better"? seriously how could he regress? he doesn't need to get better. He needs to win the National Most Improved Player of the Year to be an average B1G player.
I hope he does. I don't see it and I hope I'm wrong.

Was he not supposed to be special, one of the best pure shooting freshman in the country?
Getting better from where he is now is easy, you can’t get worse.
I don’t see anyone giving up, you have to see some court awareness, basketball IQ, savvy…gotta see something

Maybe things start to click for him at some point but anyone who is looking for silver linings in what he’s shown so far is grasping at straws.

He has not progressed to even an average rebounder. His issues cannot at this point be attributed to the surrounding cast. He’s not being guarded tightly and simply not getting open. He just isn’t making shots. His defense to date has been sub par. Again, this doesn’t mean he can’t or won’t improve. The reality though is up until this point he’s hurting us when he steps out on the court. On both ends.

Can fans just root for the guy to succeed-- bad mouthing the kid Blows.

Seems some people enjoy being miserable and bad mouthing college kids

I find it cringy

I get that the whole NIL thing opens the kids up to criticism - after all they ARE getting paid now. So with the $ comes the criticism. I get that.

But some people just get more harsh on individuals than I ever would (particularly on a freshman who is clearly struggling)

I'm just confused by the insistence that "he can play." He never looks that fluid on the court. He doesn't look comfortable making basic passes. His defense is better than in November but he's still a project. He never seems that in sync with the flow of the game.

Nobody is looking to do that. But to KCG’s point - at what point can the posts with a host of excuses related to coaching, strength development or other stop? The blame to these other parties is just as unfair as the “ragging” on Gavin.

He’s shooting around 31% from the floor (worst on the team), and 24% from 3 (worst among everyone except our 5s). There is no way to sugar coat how dreadful that is or attribute it to anything other than that he hasn’t performed well so far as a shooter despite coming in as a highly regarded sharp shooting recruit. That was supposed to be his strength.

He simply needs work in the weight room and a more aggressive mental approach. He shows little emotion and clearly not having fun. Looks like a kid who suddenly grew 4 inches and his coordination and brain haven't caught up to match yet.
Putting him out there like this may be making this worse for him, not better. (but that is certainly between him and the coach). And yes, for the record I want to the kid to figure it out and succeed. Even if that isn't here (2nd choice).

Maybe. Or maybe he’s just not going to end up panning out. Nobody has any idea at this point. All we know is what he’s shown so far. What he did in high school is irrelevant now. He seems like a nice kid so I hope it works out for him. Not every recruit ends up living up to their star rankings coming in though. We’ll see.

I don't want him to transfer because if we're putting up with this year from him it might as well be as an investment. If he transfers then it was a complete waste. His offensive rating is in line with freshman year Eugene but instead of being a raw Canadian who committed late he was a top-50 recruit.

The weight room excuse doesn't work. Cam Christie on Minnesota is also skinny. Gradey Dick on Kansas last year was skinny. Didn't stop them.

More aggressive? He comes in and almost always chucks up a shot the first or second time he touches the ball.

No one is more disappointed in how the season is playing out than Gavin. He'll put the time in to get better unlike our fans who expect immediate gratification from every recruit now and totally ignore that the development curve is different for every player.

RU72 told the boards that Gavin had things to work on but many didn't want to listen because Rivals gave him a 5th star for a period of time. They just assumed he was going to show up and carry this team. I'll chalk that up to the relative inexperience of our fans with these types of players.

Our fans need to stop looking at rankings and actually learn how to evaluate players. Then maybe they wouldn't make so many stupid statements pumping players up prematurely and then trying to tear them down when things don't pan out immediately. Sadly this is typical of a low IQ fan base.
