Seems like the guys who hoist up threes most confidently — Geo (28%), Ron (27%), Tez (25%) and Jacob (17%) — are also the ones shooting the most bricks from the arc.

On the other hand, Caleb (40%) and Kwasi (35%) seem gun shy and are shooting fairly well from three.

Hopefully Pike will red light/green light these guys from the arc, based on what we’ve seen so far. Geo and Ron in particular need to avoid settling for threes and get into the paint more, period. Both shoot very well from two and Geo is also a very good FT shooter.

McConnell and Geo I'm generally fine with them taking any three pointer. McConnell I actually want taking more. But those two and Yeboah generally show good judgment with when to take them, and they're capable of making them.

Harper and Young should take them if they're in the flow of the offense (like if someone drives and kicks to them) ... not if they're sitting at the top of the key dribbling then throwing it up.

Mulcahy should shoot them if he's open. Mathis should only taken them as a last resort.

BTW watching Penn State vs. Ohio State right now. The color analyst pointed out something I noticed as well: Ohio State's guys catch the ball ready to shoot. Legs bent, ready to square up.

While shooting is mostly not a teachable thing, that aspect of it certainly is.

When I watch other teams, the they seem to be in a better position for catch and shoot 3's. Geo seems to shoot farther away then anyone else. I'd say Caleb is the best at getting in the best position. Coach has to demand Caleb to get 4-5 good looks a game. He's passed up a number of open looks.

I've liked very few of Young's attempts. While not a fan of Mathis shooting 3's, for the most part he is shooting them when the defense is sagging and they are basically set shots.

I've seen more airballs by RU from 3 this year than I've seen in the last 5 years while playing at the Y.

You guys point out something else I’ve noticed about other teams that Rutgers seems to lack. It’s somewhat addressed in my op but our guys need a MINDSET to shoot. Otherwise we’re too easy to defend. Even to feign shooting is good to keep the defense guessing.

Gotta be shot ready when you catch a pass at this level. Guys close out quickly.

It's almost like our guys don't even thinking about the 3 until after they catch it. While I don't really want us gunning more 3's, there are a lot of possessions where we just don't make the opponent work defensively. Make them close out on a good look early in the shot clock and there's a good chance we'll end up with a better look.

Part of that is an experience thing ...and knowing where and when your shot is coming in your half court offense before the ball is even received in your hands and mentally being ready for that shot opportunity

Pay attention to the makes we have from three...you see more of that when we make...the hands are ready and body ready to shoot the theee

Whole lotta red lights

Yes, lots of these, but green for some, especially Caleb and Kwasi. I give green to both Geo and Ron anywhere inside the arc. Them and others situational for threes.

Green light for Yeboah and McConnell. Green light for Baker in the last 5 seconds of the shot clock, especially on a step back. Yellow for Harper and Mathis. Red for Young.

Let’s stitch this on a pillow and give it to Pike for Christmas.

We are in deep trouble if Harper is a guy that should have a yellow light
