The thing is - alot of Big Ten teams would look bad if they played OSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan all in a row. And then they would (as I suspect we will) look much better when they play a failing Nebraska, Army, and Maryland to end the season.
If Flood gets fired it wont be because he got blown out by the good Big Ten teams, it will be because he couldnt beat the bad ones - and so far that isnt the case.
Buggsy - the thing is - at alot of schools Flood would still have a job, particularly if he ekes into a bowl in a rebuilding year. Certainly going into this year. Coming out of it, less so, but most mid-low level P5 schools would have held on to him. Its very risky to change coaches. Even more so in a year when you are going to have to overpay (because there are alot of higher level openings, especially in our general vicinity). If we go 4-8 or 3-9 I think he gets fired, because as you state, we probably start to lose revenue.
But at even 5-7, I think he likely stays, because what we can afford in this market won't be a huge step up. And this should be the worst year for a couple of more (easier schedule, more experience at alot of positions.) If this were like 2013 when at the end of the season only Wake and USC were looking for a new coach, I think it would be alot easier decision - but we know right now that just in the east Miami, VT, USc, and Maryland (and probably Virginia) are all looking for coaches, plus Illinois and Minnesota within our conference, plus possibly others if their coaches get hired away by the USC or NFL of the world.
Flood has an uncanny knack for winning just enough games to keep his job.
Can we beat Nebraska - I would almost count on it. Flood rarely loses to teams outside the top 50.
