Basketball Rutgers Basketball's upset bid of No. 9 Alabama falls short in second Players Era game

Dylan and Ace can. But without rebounding and better 3 point percentage that won’t translates to wins. It all comes back to the St. John’s scrimmage as what most games will look like this year

The fear is will the same game and outcome get repeated

Need to fix the board problem

J will picked up 2 fouls in the first 2 minutes...has to b smarter

Harper wont score 36 a night

Supporting cast needs to convert when they are called upon

Pike's fault for not taking him off the court when the kid was shooting free throws. The guy is competent on offense (in the paint) and not good at anything else.
He really hasn't even been competent offensively yet. He was surprising against sister marys school for the blind or who ever.
He was a little better tonight at trying to score every time he touched it. He will get better, but tonight wasn't a night I wanted to see him down the stretch.

The roster construction is already looking poor. Need more from Martini, Hayes, and Acuff. All three are awful defenders, not adding rebounding, or scoring. Missed on toughness when evaluating what to add in the portal. The rebounding and defense need to improve if the team is going to do anything.

JMike needs to be benched for good, Derkack needs to be reigned in.

Well crud. Thought we might steal this one after the great first half. But rebounding woes did us in.

Extremely gutsy game by RU, IMO. Pike not going to the bench a whole lot, and we played freshmen for huge minutes. We got more tired than they did, I think. On the plus side, our young players showed lots of toughness in a very physical game.

I had two question marks, two concerns, back when we were 4 - 0. Getting the freshmen to understand the level of intensity they need to reach to beat good teams. And figuring out how to rebound and defend the paint without a dominant center.

I think the freshman have figured out the need for 40 minutes of intensity, of playing with high focus. So that’s not a question mark for me anymore.

The jury is still out on if this team can overcome the lack of a dominant center.

I’m really proud of this team. The growth since the start of the season has been amazing. I was feeling down after Kennesaw State, but vastly more optimistic after two games in Vegas.

If Alabama cuts down the turnovers, they are - at worst - going to the Great Eight.

This game took alot out of us. Don't see us winning the next one. We waste to many possessions, for a team that can't get stops. Harper is unstoppable, but he's not beating top teams by himself. Gotta learn to get teammates more involved

Great game. Team can be proud. Kenesaw taught them a lot.

I’d argue differently.

The same flaws sunk us.
1. not rebounding on defensive glass
2. Embarrassing shooting behind the arc

I’m pretty confident #1 will be a major wart that sinks the team multiple times this season.

#2 we might have some nights where the portal guys actually make a few. But overall it’s another season of being a bottom tier 3 point shooting team

Based on what I’ve seen the last few games, we can challenge for the Big Ten this year. Stay within a game or 2 of Purdue and we’ll have a shot. And Purdue lost their 7’4 center for the season

Interesting stats. We win the TO battle 20-9 and the FT battle (30-35 vs. 25-36), which usually bodes really well, but we lost the rebounding battle 43-30 and especially the 3-pt battle, 10-25 vs. 2-12. Losing JWill really hurt as he was playing very well and Derkack/Acuff didn't play nearly as well in his absence.

We have to figure out a way to get open 3s for guys like Martini , Hayes and Acuff....If we can develop that into the offense we are going to be tough to stop..
If you can score at the rim you can live without threes. Gotta improve our rebounding. Alabama is an elite rebounding team though. At least we were in position to make rebounds and contested most of them.

I don't really blame JWill for foul trouble... two of his early fouls would not have been called in 75% of games. Not about being smarter... he just got the crap end of the stick early, so a legitimate foul late put him over the limit.

Can't always predict when the roulette wheel will put you on the bench.

Take aways
We are more than a bubble team, no doubt!
JD takes WAY too many drives. Misses most.
As does JMike.
Lathan out of position …alot.
JWill, great, but often reckless, on D costs us.
Martini… a bust thus far
Acuff is slow still out if shape… but getting there

That said. Excited for the rest of the season.

Oglebe held his own and looked serviceable. If Lathan improved his D we will be ok. Alabama is an elite rebounding team.
