Schiano Impressing Miami

I was just reading that Schiano has a lot of support on the Miami search committee, and has interviewed very strongly. Richt appears to be at the top, but they are not convinced he has the passion to coach this year, or that Miami is the place he wants to be. Supposedly, he is interviewing them as much as they are him.

Listen, I think Greg and his family likes Florida so Miami is a natural fit for him. If that job goes to someone else I believe he knows that he needs to get back into coaching this year and then Rutgers makes a lot of sense. My guess is RU knows this and is willing to wait a little. Miami should be naming its coach by the end of the week.

I hope he wowed them as much as he did TB's front office. He's good like that no doubt.

I don't think Richt has the passion either. He was at a school that recruits itself essentially, and looked pretty bored leading the charge. Throw him up north in a vastly different environment and I am not sure he is right for Rutgers. Seems like a guy you get when everything else is in place.

I hope we have more self-respect than this.

I've mentioned that and you don't know how he'll do without the resources of FSU/UGA where he's worked in the past but he's as good a name and has the results as anyone you can get out there so you take the shot regardless. There's not a better name for us.

I can see Schiano wanting to stay in FL and I don't fault him for it. His next gig is important to his career. If he comes to RU I think he will be all in, despite the process that would get him here. RU/Schiano seems to add more value to both brands then other Schiaon options.

Screw that. Go after who we want either before or next on the list. I don't want to be anybody's fall back school unless there is really nobody else out there we could get who's at least as good for us.

IF Greg is not all in on Rutgers, then it is more of the same down the road. He'll be looking at better opportunities in a year or two. Leaving the 2nd time will be a lot easier than the first.

and let me add, while I know Rutgers needs a Schiano level hire he should be happy as hell he is on the list up here and wanted. cause we could do better and he didn't exactly blow it away here and did leave on less than great terms (still waiting for him to thank the fans)

After we have heard money isn't an issue and we have declared a quick timeline, I don't see how people can speculate something like that. It's clear we are not sitting around.

Heard GS is waiting on the U, but RU ain't going to wait for him.

Good. While I really wouldn't be upset if GS comes back, I don't think we should be letting him dictate the process alone.

On a side note, what in the hell is the allure of Miami these days? I get the history and I get the fertile recruiting area, but it's not what it used to be. Lack of fan support, 3/4 empty NFL stadiums, etc. I just don't get why that job is still as attractive as it is.

its his quickest path back to the NFL. they have talent, all they need is a kick in the rear. as long as he wins, they'll fill the stadium. schiano can win big pretty quickly there. and he'd have brad Kaaya who will one day playing Sundays.

So if we were Chip Kelly's fall back school...

In this current climate, there are very few schools who are going to dictate to capable coaches. They are all playing there hands at this point. Rutgers could offer Richt the job today and he would likely put us off until he looks at all of his opportunities. Lots of dancing going on out there.

wouldn't wait around for anybody as I said IF there are other candidates out there wanting the job who are deemed as good. Would rather take the A coach in hand then risk being left at the alter waiting for the A+ coach.

Well Schiano was there during the last golden era...

yep, understand this. But if one of the babes taps you on the shoulder and says let's dance. Do you say no thanks, I'm waiting for the red head over there who's trying to decide who she wants to dance with or do you make a bee line for the dance floor? All I am saying.

I certainly get who owns the upper hand in some of these moves. And unless Rutgers is throwing +25% going rate out there I don't think it is us!

They'll be disappointed. Miami expects championships.

I hope you're a big gambler if you can predict which coaches will win championships in their lifetime. I'm sure when Lou Holtz went 3-10 with the NY Jets people were confident he would never win a championship either.

Not coaching related but, for those of us who grew up in Jersey and spent most of our early years there, after living in the South for one year, you would not want to go back. I've been in south Georgia for two years now, and this is the first place out of my 5 assignments that makes me say I will never live back up north by choice. I'm just saying that because, I can see how GS could become accustomed to these beautiful winters and not want to move away.

Source tells @FoxSports that former #Rutgers coach Greg Schiano has impressed folks connected to the #Miami coaching search.
This is interesting because even as late as this morning, I haven't found anything putting him the top 1 or 2. But then again, we all know that people who put these "leaks" out are not always the most connected. We'll see. I just want them to announce already. Just so happens that I'm a Dolphins fan too. LOL. My sports life sucks.

I sure as hell hope not. If Greg truly knows the job is his to take, and has known this since Sunday, if he doesn't give us a response by noon tomorrow I'd want him off our board to be honest.

South Georgia sounds like the backwoods. I like the cities, lived in Seattle, Santa Cruz, Phoenix, Houston, D.C. , PHIL and back to Jersey. I like to live in NJ. In the summer and South during thee winters.

It's a small city that sports fans have probably heard of... VALDOSTA! Aka Titletown! I will admit though... I definitely miss the CITY feel from up north. Even Atlanta and Jacksonville don't feel anywhere close to the city feel of Philly, and NY.

If it was about staying in Florida, I'm surprised Schiano didn't make a push for the UCF job. Wouldn't have had to relocate his family at all (and he's got kids in middle and high school and you can imagine that's a factor).

I did read on twitter that a decision has already been made about the Miami job (with no report as to who got it), so if Schiano really is the choice we're might know soon enough. It seems that with Mullen and Richt in play that Greg's a longshot, but you never know.

I would expect that. Greg is a Miami fabric guy - not really PSU as often claimed. Greg's defense and offense were out of 90s B Davis Hurricane playbook. Plus GS brings the academics and goody-two-shoes vibe. Miami has sought that kid of thing to counter the bad boy image.GS also know Florida recruiting - and NJ, NY, MD, PA. Gosh GS at Miami would be a killer. Schiano, Meyer, Harbaugh, Saban etc coming in and out of NJ recruit homes? RU might not even recruit NY and MD well never mind NJ. Schiano would be good for RU just to keep him from sucking all the talent to place with beaches, clean cars and half dressed girls year round
