How long is it going to take for people to realize the one common denominator here is Mag is gone?

He was our best intangible player

He was our highest energy player

He brought toughness

Best presser

Covered others defensively

Rebounded

High efficiency scorer

Our depth is bad and forces everyone else to play more minutes

Etc etc

There is a reason why everyone else looks worse and it's not just defensively

He’s definitely missed, but was defense really the problem tonight? Mag coming along offensively but wasn’t some stud.

We don’t have anybody that can dribble or shoot…lol
Mag made everyone else better and his intangibles are off the charts. We lost a big chunk of our energy defense and toughness without him. We miss his easy buckets. The depth is terrible

It's not a coincidence people. Wake up. It's Mag

Most def. This for real truth.

If the team can’t play without Mag, that’s on the rest of the team, not the loss of Mag.

If a team loses one guy who plays 25mpg and everyone else on the team wilts, it’s the weakest bunch of psyches in existence.

This overfocusing on Mawot Mag because his injury coincided with a huge team wide slump is absurd

All The bad things that have nothing to do with Mag tonight:
-We hit 33% of our free throws
-We have no one who can handle the ball
-We threw the ball away repeatedly
-We don’t run any plays on offense
-Hyatt, Reiber, Simpson, Mulcahy and McConnell were awful
-We were destroyed on the boards

We could lose out and Hawk will write a novel about how it had nothing to do with Mag and Flouxetine will still claim Mag is worth 2 points

The reality is Mag. We only won @ Wisconsin bc Cam was red hot first half

There is a reason we cannot sustain good play for an entire game. We have seen spurts but the depth is not good at all and it's exposing us

Heresy.. mawot mag was with 20 points a game. He willed cliffs FTs in with his mind. He convinced Caleb and Paul and cam not to make stupid turnover after stupid turnover. He was a 100% ft shooter and 100% 3 point shooter. He only came to Rutgers instead of going straight onto the NBA to become the #1 pick out of the goodness of his heart

No Mag and Caleb out together only 1 point difference

It’s because the other players are playing badly

That's the issue with a lack of depth. Every team deals with injuries, I raised this as a concern beginning of the year and was scoffed at. Michigan was without their 2nd leading scorer tonight as well. It's sports, the question is not will players get hurt, it's when they will get hurt

Mag had tremendous Energy and Hustle which is 90% of basketball. Do you see that anywhere on this team? Michigan beat us tonight with pure hustle.
Yes energy and hustle are 90% of the game. That’s why we were UNSTOPPABLE pikes first couple years

What will it take for you to realize that Mag impacts the play of his teammates?

Is there anything that can even make you consider this?
You aren’t listening, or are refusing to understand what I am saying.

The qualitative points you are making are not wrong. The issue is that you are assigning an absurd amount of value to them.

If you would have some respect for the spreadsheet for a second, you would listen to me when I explain that the amount of value people are ascribing to Mag is equivalent to the value per player difference between the best and worst D1 teams. Or bigger than the estimated value over replacement of a player like peak Lebron or Michael Jordan.

That’s not plausible. He does all the things you say, and is STILL only worth a few points per game. You don’t understand how small the margins are. You can identify that a stock is undervalued, but not by how much.

If only mag could have played against iowa twice or michigan state or temple or seton hall or Miami. We surely would have won all those games. Damn shame.

Its sad and on the coach that one player was the lynch pin to the whole team.

We are 1-4 without Mag

16-7 with him
You’re such a simpleton. We’re giving mag credit for wins in games he got benched and spencer made 5 threes. This team wins if spencer or Paul score and loses if they don’t. This isn’t hard to understand.

Mag was our only legitimate two way player. Not crazy to say that his impact exceeded his stats.
Exactly. The rest of the team might as well be wearing multi-color hat with a propeller on top. They do some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen in a basketball game.

And so your thesis is that Mawot Mag was so mother****ing good that a bunch of dumb, useless idiots + him was a top 25 basketball team?

How do you guys not understand how dumb this sounds?

The team isn't deep. You can blame Pike for recruiting and lack of depth but that doesn't change how much Mag being out has killed us

Some players are much more important to a team than stats show. That's the reality of sports
He had 4 schollies to use on portal players in the off season and only ended up with Spencer. I said in the off season that if we had to rely on last years bench players to play major minutes we were in trouble. And again I was laid into and told how Pike develops talent and all of those kids would improve and become legit Big 10 players. The only one that got better was Mag, the rest of them stink.

You realize that in games Mag played less that would still mean those minutes go to the bench scrubs who would be worse and we may not have won?
