Hey, I was hoping for some friendly advice. It turns out I will be in NYC for work on the Thursday prior to the Rutgers/Iowa game on September 24th. I'm thinking about taking Friday and Saturday to hang out in NYC/NJ. What is best method to get from midtown area to Rutgers on gameday and back? Or should I get a hotel in area Friday night? Usually fly into LGA but could just fly into Newark instead.

Tickets seem pretty decent throughout stadium. Also any tips on place to eat or bars/activities on the Rutgers campus would be appreciated.

Thanks-

Here are some details on trains from NYC or EWR airport to New Brunswick. In Penn Station look for NJ Transit trains. On Saturdays, I believe all Trenton destination trains will stop in New Brunswick. Likewise, at EWR train station, look for Trenton trains (usually tracks 4 or 5). I don't believe they have established game time for Iowa yet. If it is 3:00 or later, you can stay in NYC and take a morning train which should allow for time to check out the main campus, grab a bite to eat, and hop on a shuttle to the game.

FWIW, I've never used LGA but I think it's a hassle to get to Manhattan. It is very easy going to and from EWR from NYC via NJ Transit

Take NJ transit from Penn station which will take you to New Brunswick. From there I would head directly to the game. The tailgating at Rutgers is underrated. You will be welcome to join many of our tailgates (mine included) which will be open 5-6 hours (or more) before the game. I would spend your free time in Manhattan or at a Jersey beach. New Brinswick is known for its restaurants on the theater side of town but the college side has plenty of good options too. Depending on what you interests are, there are plenty of things to do in NJ.

I would add that in addition to trying to join someone's tailgate (and you will always find someone who will welcome you), you can go to the Block R Party tailgate area directly across from the North Gate of the stadium. They have a band, food vendors, a beer garden, and other events.

If you are taking New Jersey Transit you want the Northeast Corridor Line and make sure the train stops in New Brunswick.

I third that on the tailgating. Try to tailgate as close to the stadium as possible. That sad have seen some good tailgates as far away as the RAC (Rutgers Athletic Center or whatever it is called today (i.e Louis Brown Athletic Center).

If you are going to arrive and depart from the RAC allow in your mind as much as 60-90 minutes to get out of the stadium amnd back to the RAC as if the game is close everyone leaves at once. The system overall is pretty good, though-especially coming into the stadium via the bus shuttle.

Tickets are easier than parking. If you want to save money here-at least for the non B1G games you might be best purchasing in the lot from a scalper or better a fan with an extra.

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN AND GO RU!

My daughter and her boyfriend are coming in from Iowa for the game as well. You're more than welcome to join our tailgate in the Blue lot. At least you'll have other Hawkeye fans there too!
