Weather for WSU @ RU: Warm w/Light Showers Possible/Likely

does it ever NOT fracking rain (or snow) for a game in NJ? :chairshot:

so tired of it. every fracking game I come to. It HAS to be my fault. There is no logical other explanation.

Bad news for you guys. Plan on rain/snow against OSU/MSU /Nebraska.

Have to say, was happy for the rain yesterday. It's been deathly dry for a long time. Other than a few overnight drizzles, we hadn't gotten a solid rain in Bridgewater since before the Fourth of July weekend (after a June that had a ton of rain). The grass around here was becoming a pretty uniform shade of brown/yellow.

I would love to take it back with me. Hoping the El Nino that is being predicted comes to fruition as we need it bad. But with my luck it won't. Will be bone dry except for RU gamedays.:chairshot:

I hear they're saying that if El Nino brings too much rain, it may be worse because of flooding - the ground just isn't ready for that much water all at once, and a ton of it will just run off instead of replenishing the ground water supply.

They were covering their bases and it turns out they were right...thats why said caution assuming we were just going to be dry

Thats what the news is saying because like the SL they need headlines.

It definitely will NOT be worse. Yes there will be some floods and yes there will be mudslides that will affect a relatively small percentage of people. But the rain will still fill the reservoirs and at elevation the rain will turn to snow. The biggest concern is will the precipitation reach the Sierras which is where the snow is sorely needed.

Well, hopefully Cali will get some nice periods of sustained, not torrential, precipitation - and that a lot of it falls in the mountains. And then follow it with a cooler winter that doesn't continue to deplete the Sierra snowpack.

The news does the same thing with fires. When we have a dry year(s) the headlines say "Fires will be awful this year due to the dry foliage!" Then after a wet winter (haven't had one for years) the headlines are "Fires will be awful this year due to rain making the foliage grow thicker".

Rain. We need it! a LOT of it! even a huge El Nino won't make the drought "go away" but it certainly will make a dent!

Patrick - assuming the tailgates are dry, which is a good probability, a few showers during the game when it's 75-80F, really shouldn't be that big of a deal to anyone. I'd rather have a few warm showers than the relentless sun we had last week.

Lee goldberg's future cast had heavy rain over New Brunswick at 5pm. Don't know how to post the pic.

Let it Rain, Let it Rain. I'll take any advantage we can get. I pray for rain. This is football and we don't play in a dome. We're built for this. Could care less about wet fans. Tailgates look to be fine then let Mother Nature do her thing and ground WSU. The heavens are on our side in this one. We can't possibly lose.(Hopefully)

I have the good fortune of tailgating with many lovely ladies, most notably my family. So anything that gets their hair wet is considered a fail and an absolute soaker. That said, they are at every game - rain or shine. Ponchos will be worn as needed.

I must say I really appreciate these threads . I trust ru numbers and bac's forecasts more that these clowns on television. .....So do we have a final prediction for today's weather yet ? Am I bringing the poncho's ?

Well, looks like the slightly faster low pressure arrival forecasted for the past few days by the NWS in Philly, in particular (vs. the NWS in NYC and many other sources) will verify. That 3-6 hour difference will make the difference between a completely dry game and what looks to be a moderately wet one. Kudos to the NWS in Philly.

Anyway, tailgates should still be mostly dry to dry, with, at most, a very light shower or two before gametime, although it will be getting cloudy by about noon, with temps reaching highs near 80F during the tailgates. However, chances of rain will be on the increase throughout the game and a stray t-shower is possible, especially by the 2nd half. Rainfall amounts should still be on the light side for the game, i.e., 0.1-0.2" and with temps in the mid-70s, it won't feel too bad for most. If rain makes you melt, bring a poncho.

I will say this. We arrived in OC NJ yesterday for a week vacation and the view of the sunrise over the ocean from our beachfront rental (amazing how much cheaper rentals are after Labor Day) is breathtaking. Bikers and joggers are out in force already and it being OC, it's not much to look at, lol. Paging newell138, lol. The only downside of a family reunion in OC today is that I'm going to miss the game, which sucks - relegated to TV watching.

#s...I am more pessimistic than you on the tailgates staying dry. Radar is kuicy out in PA and its not just light rain. I think we can see some pretty good downpours today. I think we are ok until about 2 but then all bets are off. Hopefullt this thing breaks up and becomes spottier. Ponchos are pretty much mandatory today and bring plastic bags to sit on

Yes . Big mass moving towards us. I'm thinking a big downpour with steady rain. I have a feeling there also will a lightning delay.

You could be right about timing, if the precip in NE VA, entering the DC area now, holds together and continues to move at its current pace, we'd see shower activity starting up around 2 pm or so (the precip out in central PA is not what will reach us first). That's a big "if" though. I'll be dry no matter what, though, in the bar, lol, although I'd still way rather be there rain or no rain, as light, moderate or even heavy rain would mean nothing to me.

I think you are downplaying this event. What do you mean it won't feel bad for most. take a poll on how people feel about sitting at a football game in a downpour with thunder and lightning. Who cares if it's in the 70's. But then again you like walking in 2 feet of snow at 3am in the morning with wind chills at 2 below.

That little mass is over DC now tho, home of humidity. Doubt it holds together by the time it reaches us. Could also miss us all together depending on the path. Tailgate should be mostly ok, maybe some showers from 2 on

I don't mind a warm shower. As long as there isn't lightning to delay the game. Last week sweltering heat, today showers, and later in the season will be snow and ice ! lol. Typical Football season . Bring it on !

I'm not a weather expert, although sometimes I play on on Internet forums. Looking at this radar I don't think it's a question of if it rains during the game, but how badly.

I also think he only meant he wouldn't care if it was pouring, he would still rather be at the game cause it doesn't bother him

I'm simply saying that most people will find 0.2" of rain at 75F, for example, to be far less annoying, uncomfortable, impactful, whatever, than 0.2" of rain at 55F (which is about what we had for PSU last year and most people hated that). And yes, I love walking in the snow at any time and I loved the WVU game in the Halloween snowstorm, so yeah, some rain and 75-80F would be a complete non-issue for me and I'd far prefer that than 80-85F and relentless sun, like last week.

Also, current rainfall predictions through about 6:30 pm are still only for about 0.2" of total rainfall and that would not be a drenching rain (maybe it could be moderate to heavy for a few 10-15 minute showers, but more likely would be light most of the time and not raining some of the time). Doesn't mean more rain isn't possible, but so is less rain.

Rain is now in NE MD and as far east as Reading, PA and at the rate it's going it would likely reach RU by around 2 pm or so; would be nice if it held off til gametime. Also, it being summer, there's a small chance of a brief thunderstorm or two with heavier rain, but those will be scattered and are impossible to predict and will not hit most areas. If one hits the game, though, there could obviously be a delay due to lightning, which would suck. Let's hope WSU just sucks in the rain, lol.

Looking at the last frames of the latest radar loop, the heavier cluster of rain over the DelMarVa may swing further east of HPSS. Fingers crossed.
