Hurley can recruit and KSU has a good history with JUCO's so don't write either of those off. I will say ASU, KSU, and Rutgers campus wise are all polar opposites so the variety from his final 3 is pretty interesting.

If Pike can get this kid away from these two schools he will succeed. This is a huge test of Pike and his staff ability to sell. I've seen what Arizona State has to offer as far as environment and facilities. I was in the area for 4 days not to long ago. I hope we are last so the kid can get good weather.

Hope the kid doesn't favor blondes.

There are a few JUCOs and 5TH Year targets we are hoping to see visit...Lake may be a longer shot because ASU has been recruiting him longer but no better conference to challenge yourself than the B1G....getting a visit is always the key.

The fact that we're in the top 3 is terrific... Hopefully Pike can close the deal.

The other thing he wants is to know that he'll be developed. The staff might be able to point to the progress that CJ made this year and that was only being together a very short time.

Here we go again, another knock on ASU's academics where ignorant people attaching themselves to 20 year old stereotypes about ASU social life. It is a much better school than people seem to ever give it credit for.
Well it sure as sh*t isn't going to be confused with being an Ivy. Through out my life I've met and know three people who went there and not one went for their far superior academics. But they had a helluva time and have good jobs. However, none of them would tout their Alma mater as a cornerstone of higher learning.

That's all that matters

Most basketball players are not choosing schools based on academic reputation. Many talk about the importance of academics then choose schools that are not known for that. If really chose based on academic qualities we would not be 20 plus years of not being a NCAA tournament team. Kids want to play and kids want to win and kids like shiny new facilities. It's no wonder we have been in this deplorable state for so long. It is easy to see why look at what our competition has to offer and look at we have. End of discussion!!

Are you really done making the same basic post in every thread??

No why? It's relevant and the truth stick your head in the sand if you want most will join you. The last time your AD spoke publicly he was basically begging for more participation. Coach Pike in his end of the year interview mentioned the "facility issue twice". Better question to ask is why is this fan base ignoring the pleas from the men tasked with turning this thing around?

When I see your handle I just think "facilities" and move on to the next post. I'm not the only one.

That's what he does (but he'll deny, just like he denies bashing the board incessantly about its lack of giving as if he knows who gives what ...).

I'm that mirror that most refuse to look into. I'm the guy who reminds us and constantly what is lacking for RU to take the next step. I do not bash anyone or talk down to anyone. Give or don't give but we are 30 million away from really giving Pike and Ash what they need to go to battle for the best football and basketball players in NJ and out of NJ. A little over 2000 individual donors care to give more than just an opinion on a message board. It's amazing to me that I cause so many to get ruffled over a message to step up so that our coaches can actually have a chance to succeed. Pike more than anyone needs this done yesterday. He is trying to recruit the players that are going to take us from last place to NCAA tournament. He is begging for the help necessary to get this done. Thanks

You DO "talk down," Chris, I've attempted to explain this to you more than once. Maybe you're not doing it intentionally, I don't know, maybe you're drunk when you do it, I don't know, but you do do it. Not personally, two individuals, but to the entire board you absolutely do this.

I don't dispute your message, just the persistent frequency. I donate a fairly healthy amount (to the consternation of my wife), but I do agree that our fanbase is generally woeful in this area. Out of a half-dozen friends in my football & hoops tickets group, not one gives a nickel past the mandatory seat license. Frustrating.

I reread what I posted there is no talking down or disrespect or being negative. I'm not making anything up taking swipes at individual posters. The Build Fund threads if you look at them are ignored. I believe they must be talked about because we are 30 million short and this board is the board about RU basketball. To get better players so we can not be a last place team again we need this FUND to succeed. My alma mater Elizabeth High School has better Facilities than my college alma mater. It has to get done or we are doomed.

By now fans on this message board know that facilities need to be upgraded ,however, they don't want to be constantly reminded of the problem/solution.The solution won't happen just from fans on a message board because its too small a fan base.

Looks like we are in the final 3 for an athletic JUCO big. Seems like he'd be a great under the radar get. Based on his twitter feed, it looks like Kansas was showing interest as well, with Bill Self traveling to watch him play.

@russwood - do you have any further intel?
I'm sorry, but I seldom have any info on JuCo kids.

Btw, I just happened to click on this thread, I didn't get an alert that someone tagged me, but I see why, the tag was incorrect. There should be a space between Russ Wood.

Pikiell doesn't need facilities to win recruits at RU.....it's a "nice thing to have", but it is more impressive for the AAU contacts and others than the players itself....there is no recruit on the planet that bases a recruiting decision based on what facilities a program has in place.

At the end of the day, a coach just wants to be able to sell something being built and the easiest things to point out is what's coming, vs what's in place. Once the facility is underway and being built, it's not going to save the staffs jobs by saying they have this item in place. There are plenty of local programs claiming a lot of recruiting wins based on facilities and are no further now, than they were a decade ago before their facility was built.

It's still going to come down to the basics of what the team does on rebounding, boxing out, following fundamentals and doing the little things that separate a good staff from a great one. Every program in the country can argue about who has better facilities, but schools like Indiana and others still are looking for the right coach/leadership and will the coach their players to play defense.....and if they don't do the little things, it's not going to matter who they hire as the next coach, they will be another disappointed program with expectations that are too high.

If anything should eliminate the facility argument, it's football, which has absorbed 85-90% of the donations and revenue at RU, but continues to pick poor, average or below average coaching staffs over the last 2 decades....It's not that complicated and every staff knows the hurdles when they take on the job....same thing for Chris Collins at NW, the 40-50 mid-majors that recruit and coach up their kids etc...

The program isn't under some sort of restriction of scholarships, we are one of the best locations on the east coast, have a pretty nice and improving campus, diversity of student body/.professors, less than an hour from NYC, 90 minutes to Phila and less than 3 hours to Washington DC (DMV)....if you think it's easy recruiting to Manhattan Kansas or somewhere else based on a facility, good luck believing that....RU has plenty to sell and offer, it just needs the right staff in place, exactly what we have now.....

Rutgers needs to start winning because right now its not a destination place for shooters/go to scorers.Defense and rebounding will only keep games close.Shooters win games and Rutgers lacks them .Recruiting must bring in higher caliber players ASAP.

According to his rivals profile he has an official here on 4/7 followed by K state on 4/14. Hope we can reel him in. Would definitely help soften the lose of Gettys.

Based on his requirements RU is the place for him. All his boxes will be checked

Williams, Sauders, and Johnson need to put in LOTS OF HOURS over the off season on 2 things. I'll throw Thiam in there as well and everyone else needs to fill their roles and this team will be very successful

Outside shooting
Foul shots

I do not see less than 20 W's next year after another year with Pike, Brandon, Shoes etc..
There is no place to go but up and that's where we are going.....UP

You get people ruffled cause you're a one trick pony who will not acknowledge any progress. And when confronted with facts you disappear from the thread. And you move the goal posts consistently.

When we get to the $100m (and we will), you will find something else to bitch about incessantly.

You are the mirror blah blah blah

Please. Get over yourself.

I would add passing and dribbling as areas that the guards and the whole team needs improvement in .

Passing for sure, still have nightmares of Freeman in PSU game and that dumb pass in last minute.

THANK YOU, HAWK. Brand spanking new facilities are nice, but coaches are what get kids to come. How did we ever get Sellers to come to The Barn? (Over Notre Dame!) The BARN!!!! Was Manley Field House such an attraction to Syracuse? Alumni Hall to St Johns. UConn rarely got anybody til Calhoun. When did Georgetown get good? Duke ALWAYS had Cameron, but not Coach K.

A good, dynamic coach and a comparable staff. Recruits have enormous choices in terms of numbers of schools to fit his bill. He goes for the coach. To some extent the league for the competition.

We'll see if Pike can be that coach. We've seen them here before.

Hey guys look it's Jesus! Thank you we are so lucky to hear you spread your message....

Checking around I see his team played and beat Souf Mensah's team this season.
