2018 Never Forget Tribute at Pru Center

Why hasn't RU been in any of these type of tournaments (esp given how many local ones there are) in a long time? Is it simply because we have stunk? I still have to think even given our performance we would outdraw a Miss St type of bball program in the NYC area ?!?!

Why would we want to play in one of these local events but away from our home court in front of no one? And in Newark? No thanks. We already play a bunch of three types of teams already in Gavitt Games, ACC challenge etc. and play 20 Big Ten games. It might mean something to Texas A&M or Clemson to play in NYC area (Newark LOL) but...pass.

Thats pretty small time thinking. Agree for now, its fine for RU to pass on these tournaments as we need to soften up the out-of-conference schedule and get home games on the books.

But these games hold a lot more value then you're giving credit for .. the additional TV time in a prime slot alone would be worth it from a business perspective. Add in that you get another P5 opponent and IF its in an attractive venue, then its a good opportunity for fans (such as myself and all the others that lit up the Garden working in/around NYC who find it hard to make it to the RAC at 7pm on a Wed)

Have you looked at our schedule for 2018-19? Obviously not. There will be very few cream puffs on our schedule for the foreseeable future. Regarding tv exposure, we play virtually all of our games on prime time tv already. It’s not 1988. These games have no value for us and Newark is most definitely NOT an attractive venue. Don’t mention playing at MSG in midtown Manhattan and Prudential Center in the same sentence. I go through that hell hole of Newark Penn Station everyday.

I'm well aware of the schedule and why its constructed that way. Hence my direct comment stating "Agree for now, its fine for RU to pass on these tournaments as we need to soften up the out-of-conference schedule and get home games on the books" .. so again I will re-state .. I don't disagree that RU is passing on these tournaments, for now.

BUT don't even try to compare a prime time slot on ESPN or other major networks vs being on BTN or one of the BTN secondary channels (I specifically had to subscribe to BTN online just to watch a bunch of games in our out of conference schedule). There's a HUGE difference there.

Are you suggesting RU should be content with playing the likes of St Peters on BTN+ (online viewing only) with 3,500 people in the RAC in 3 years from now by passing up opportunities (if offered to us) of getting a game vs Florida on ESPN then I suppose we see the program going in different directions

Ny Penn is a shyte hole

The question is not why we’re not there for this but why isn’t Shoe one of participants?

We play 20, TWENTY, Big Ten conference games, Seton Hall, an ACC team, and another Big East team just about every year before we schedule another out of conference game for the foreseeable future. That’s 23 games against major conference foes which leaves us only a handful of opportunities to construct a basic 16 game HOME schedule. It’s basic math. And those 23 opponents are probably a lot more attractive to RU fans than Mississippi State or Texas A&M. Pikiell has said many times that there is very little influence he has over the schedule anymore because of these scheduling requirements.
