Bac's Update Pecking Order: 3/5

I'm sorry but BYU is in even with a loss. Strong RPI.

I don't think they are even close to the bubble. They don't have a single bracket at Bracket Matrix including them. And their RPI is currently #67 which I wouldn't describe as a "strong" part of their resume. They have 4 losses against Quadrant 3 and 4 and only 3 wins against Quadrant 1 and 2.

(and that RPI will go down if they lose tonight)

Wonder what happens to St. Mary’s now?? Slumping as of late and not a great schedule to begin with. BYU like many western teams gets the short end on selection and seeding. CBS would love ND for eyeballs. I bet they get in. Alabama for hoops not so much. Louisville has little chance.

BYU is a possible bid thief tonight as they take on Gonzaga in the WCC title game. The #3 seed Cougars knocked off #2 St. Mary's in the semifinal last night 85-72. KenPom gives BYU a 22% chance at the upset and auto-bid. Gonzaga won the earlier matchups by 8 points (home) and 14 points (road).

So if BYU gets the upset, that'll be 3 bids for the WCC instead of 2.

yes definite 3 bid...St Marys is a lock

Notre Lame a bubble team coming into ACC tourney at 18-13?? And they’re talking about a guy who has been injured possibly coming back as the reason? Are you ****ing kidding me lol??!!

What’s next “they have a GREAT class coming in next year let’s invite them as well!!”???

all ridiculous hype by ACC, the player coming back has no relevance in them being selected,. Anyhoo they looked atrocious against a horrible Pitt team., Lets note that they went 0-5 vs top 4 in the league, have just 2 Q1 wins..their best in conference win was at Syracuse who is no guarantee

are they beating Va Tech...they would need to then beat Duke which they arent doing

Fracking joke nuts. "Lets pretend they would have won"

They didn't look good vs. Pitt today.

Watching all these games and all I hear lenardi talk about is how the committee has to choose a team based on who they could be not what they were. What utter b's! That's not the standard. If so then bring the last 10 back in.

eaccpn's effort to get ND and 10-11 acc teams in is sickening. Can't wait for their demise.

I'm at Cuse Wake game at Barclays and lower bowl is filled obviously with your typical cuse crowd. Atmosphere regardless still is lackimg here. Syracuse doesn't clearly pass the eye test for me as they are the epitome of a bubble team. Wake is awful. I do not miss syracuse or that let's go orange chant. Dependent on weather I'm hoping to be here for Thursday both session games and to give it to Nigel Johnson. Lol

Yeah they seemed to have decent afternoon crowd but didn't hear much energy on tv.
Give NJ one for me....

@bac2therac

You have st. Mary's in..I just saw a blind resume with cuse and texas..their sis was like 202...and 1 - 1 q1. Saw comments they needed to beat by and get to finals. Pic record good but against who? Wondering Why you have them in ?

selection committee has a history with this conference...yes its not a criteria but this is the stuff that the committee does that has nothing to do with their sheet. WCC seemingly always gets a 2nd bid...at 28-5 St Mary's has compiled a very large number of wins. True not many of quality...I think 2 Q1s and 2 Q2s but really only Gonzaga counts. I had them in before the tourney, felt that there strong overall mark overcomes all the other stuff they do not have. The committee always judges these midmajors with a different standard, they will never have the same wins as those schools. Cuse, Bama, Baylor all bloated toads with 13-14 losses...how many losses is too many...sure some of them have a lot of Q1s but yes the overall record is going to matter.

I could be wrong but I would be quite surprised if St Mary's was snubbed

yeah, it just seems like talking out of both sides of their mouths if so. but why would I be surprised by that LOL.

The committee’s official criteria allows them to consider the impact of a player that missed games and is returning. AFAIK they’ve never had a potential bubble team to apply it to since they added it. But if you were ever going to use it, Bonzi Colson is a hell of a player. Legit 1st team All American level performer.

I just think nobody knows if and how it will be applied. I wouldn’t want to bet against ND, though, if they make a deep run in the ACC tourney. Whether that’s right or not is a different discussion.

IMO as previously stated we need to win the tournament to get a bid.

Factoring in Colson injury is completely unfair to many teams who suffered injuries during the course of the season.

You are what your record says you are.

The point is moot because if we shoot 18 for 53 as we did yesterday VTech will run us out of the building.

All the west coast teams get snubbed. Two years ago 27-5 St. Mary with an RPI of 37(Yes i know I hate it too but they insist on using it) was snubbed big time. They deserve a break. BYU has been snubbed in recent years. Bigger problem is the seeds. Gonzaga has traditionally been snubbed by lower seed. They deserve better seed.

Syracuse loses today are they out??

possible...they become 50/50 and thrown in with all the other bubbles.

There are a slew of bubbles just in and out who are just bloated toads..none of them can complain if they are left out. With the field adding schools to go to 68, its watered down those last bids for sure. If I were Syracuse I would try and make it academic by winning.

ESPN pundit bs....do not buy into it, never heard them talk up a team that needed to pull 2 big upsets to be taken seriously

what are you doing being an ND fan and being so reasonable...trying for Sainthood?

I'm not just an ND fan-----I'm a graduate-----Class of 68.

Just think right is right-----their overall resume isn't good enough

Lost Colson for 13 games and Farrell for 7 but lots of teams have injuries.

I never understood why FSU was a lock. I think they may have peaked at RU.

Russ Wood and I disagree on this but IMO very few coaches do less with more than Leonard Hamilton's teams.

Too many times they just don't show up ready to play.

Louisville picked up a very good win today..is it enough? Too soon to tell. If they beat Virginia they are in. They do not have a meaty resume.

Florida State is a lock

I hope this was a joke, Notre Dame was awful against a wretched Pitt team yesterday

No I didn’t watch. I’ll watxh today. I just know colson is a beast.

Will be rooting hard for va Tech

Fla state sleep walked until the end. Talk about going through the motions.

FSU finishes 9-10 in ACC games.

And the other 17 seasons... come on.
40 % underseeded 2 of 5.
What are you predicting this year?
Underseeded again!

If you count up the last 15 years, Gonzaga has been underseeded and overseeded roughly equal number of times if you compare their KenPom rank to seed (KenPom 1-4 being 1 seeds, 5-8 being 2 seeds, etc)

In fact, they’ve gotten a 1 or 2 seed every season except 1 when they were top 20 in KenPom. In 2005, 2006, and 2010 they were notably overseeded.

Soon other words 50% of the time they have been underseeded. Name another major program with such poor seeds.

No, most of the time appropriately seeded. Sometimes under, sometimes over (in equal proportion). Just like almost everybody else.

omg....Arizona State suffers a crushing defeat to Colorado. They are basically resting their hopes on those early season wins over two potential one seeds....Xavier and Kansas...its pretty clear at this time they are not a tourney team but the committee seems to ignore that for what the team was in November. Going to be close for them, I would not be surprised either way

Well well well Notre Dame gonna get in. Oklahoma try as they may should not be in. At some point losses have to matter.

I would love it if they just did away with the NIT and added 1 day and 32 teams to the NCAA tourney. Any P6 team with 500 in conf. (Min 500 overall) gets in plus the AQs. Plenty of at large bids. Top 32 get a bye.

So @bac2therac
Another question. How can unc at 22 & 9 and 11 &7 in the acc ..a #6 seed. In their tourney be projected as a 2 seed overall in the tourney? Or is that lanardi doing the acc thing ( I can see a lower to mid 3 seed)?
