I remember reading somewhere on the board that our old referee "friend" Dennis DeMayo was going to retire.

On today's Notre Dame / Syracuse game, which he worked, they mentioned that he will be finishing his career with the upcoming UConn / Temple game, I think they said 35 years. Very appropriate last game given his connections to Geno and Philadelphia.

Gradually, a lot of the "old times" have retired. Palermo is still working some NE conferences, Titus still does the American and I guess the nBE and Lawson Newton is still working away down in the ACC. I suppose all will retire over the next few years.

While my favorite was Bonita, I enjoyed the games Sally Bell ref'd, as well. She always seemed to get the Uconn-RU match-ups of old. It was fun to get on her case for fouls against us, but even more fun when she would call them against the Huskies.

I don't know if you saw that Sally Bell is going into the Women's BB Hall of Fame this year. I think Patty Broderick and possibly June Corteau are also in the hall.

Didn't see that, thanks for posting Knight, well deserved given her career. June was another "oldie but goodie".
Part of the excitement of coming to games for me was waiting to see who the refs were, love 'em or not, the familiar faces felt like family

Dennis DeMayo was one of the most vengeful and one sided refs in the history of basketball. Always played favorites. And of course he was great buddies with a certain WBB head coach's brother. Seriously should have been investigated

She rarely officiated at the RAC, but I've always held high regard for Angela Lewis. A fair and no nonsense ref. Kept head coaches in check and wasn't afraid to T-up them up after a warning was issued.
