Gottlieb - Rhule not going to Mizzou

He took himself out of consideration, that's common practice when you think you won't get the job.
Looks better for the school your at fanbase , making them think you prefer to stay there.
The article in tweet says nothing about him being offered the position >
"Multiple sources have told The Inquirer that head coach Matt Rhule is no longer talking to Missouri about its vacant football job.

And this :
The search for a new coach at Missouri continues, and apparently one candidate has backed away from the pursuit. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Temple head coach Matt Rhule has turned taken himself out of the mix for the job at Missouri, which likely means Rhule will stay put in South Philly during this coaching carousel cycle.<

Looks like Temple fans want to think one thing when the truth is different.

The truth is, we were told well before that came out that he wasn't leaving for Mizzou. He humored them with an interview in Philly, but he wasn't interested.

Let's see how next year pans out for temple with all their seniors departing. This was his year to bolt and I'd bet he will regret it. If I were a Mizzou fan I would be ecstatic over this even though as others say above it is likely due to him realizing it wasn't happening.

Again, this is a misconception. They are not losing everyone, or even most of them. Yes, they are losing all their seniors, but only a handful are key.

He's a different kind of cat, more like Navy's Ken Niumatalolo than like Golden or Daz. The whole notion that Temple will drop off next year is a complete fallacy. Where they lose key players, like Matakevich, there's a comparable level talent in Nick Sharga to take his place. Same for Tavon Young (Kareem Ali), Matt Ioannidis (Freddy Booth-Lloyd), Kyle Friend (Brendan McGowan), etc., etc. They run a North Carolina-type system on defense, and run a lot of subs in and they are pretty interchangeable with the starters.

I think your team will be fine next year but still think you don't just 'replace' 3/4-year starters without any growing pains (again, 2006/2007 Rutgers was in almost the same exact boat) and 2017 will be a challenge.

Once again:

QB Walker
RB Jahad
WR Bryant
WR Jennings
TE Thompson/Patton
LT Dawkins
RG Carter

LB Marshall
LB Alwan
DE Martin-Oguike
DE Reddick
NT Robinson
CB Chandler

All returning.

McGowan @ C for Friend
Nate L Smith @ S for Hayes
Sharif Finch @ DE for Ioannidis

All started multiple games.

Khiry Lucas and Anthony Davis, 2 potential starters in the secondary redshirting with injuries. Anthony Davis or Kareem Ali starts at CB, taking over for Tavon Young. Khiry Lucas, Jyquis Thomas, or Delvon Randall starts at S, taking over for Alex Wells.

This is really the bottom line with Rhule. He is unproven. If he beats Houston though, I would say his stock would get a bump from winning the AAC, which was tough this year.

Excited to have all of the Rutgers fans watch our championship game on Saturday. It'll be on ABC. Noon. If we're lucky enough to take down Houston, please tune in to the Peach or Fiesta Bowl.

So is Herman
So is Fuente
So is Chad Morris
So is DJ Durkin
So is Scott Frost
So is Clay Helton

There are very few 'proven' coaches in CFB.

If he's as good as thought, no problem losing the key seniors, they will be replaced by those groomed to replace them or a hot shot freshman or two.
Then Temple fans will be right in saying Rhule is a good HC and be proud.
If he's a one season wonder, that will show and be Temple's problem.

What's the threshold? What if we win 8 games?

Don't care , if 8 wins satisfies the give a hoot fans, then 8 it is.
Maybe 6 wins will be good enough for you to consider it a great year by him.

I think we would be satisfied with consistently winning 6, but this year for example, 6 would've been unacceptable. Rhule gets a 10 year contract or whatever here in the $2M range and he's safe short of some disaster. At a school with higher expectations he gets more money, but he is gone in 4 years if they dont consistently win 8+.
