Greg Schiano: Rutgers football is closing in on a time when fans can ‘plan their holiday trips around our bowls’

With all that Sunday talent shouldn’t the results have been a little better on Saturday?
e5 that is one of the encouraging things right now. He is starting up the pipeline to the NFL. It takes time,( I know no one wants to hear that).
I remember in the early Big East days if you wanted to see future NFL players at a Rutgers game you were looking at the opposing team.

This an enlightening interview with Graber. I don’t think comparing Graber to Schiano is a good comparison.
I liked Graber but what he was asked to do with very little in the way of academic support and sub par facilities was next to impossible. Yet, if he got a couple breaks he might of pulled off a miracle.

It’s put up or shut up time
Year 4
Greg’s guys
Doable schedule
New OC
All off season to prepare
The time to win & go bowling on a regular basis is now
Not next year
Not in 2028
Now
Ha ha. You don’t know most of these fans constantly move the Schiano success goalline farther and farther away and gives him more and more time to reach it. Pretty soon Al, Madhat and Bob will say Schiano inherited a high school debate team instead of a football team and needs 15 years and a donated country club in the tropics to build a .500 team ? The next 13 years are free, right Al?

He’s paid to win
It’s year 4

He’s not getting smoked by Maryland bc we don’t have a field house or small NIL $

This isn’t the old big east - were in a league where results are expected

6-6 and bowling is the expectation

Win Wagner, NW, VT, Temple and 2 others

Don’t get completely embarrassed vs Nitts, bucks and Michigan
Absolutely he’s getting smoked by Maryland because they have a brand new Fieldhouse which attracts top notch talent and we don’t. Rutgers is not in a position to recruit a QB transfer like Taulia Tagovailoa or previous five star WR, Rakim Jarrett, who is now with the Bucs. 6-6 is a fair expectation, but he isn’t getting fired if we go 5-7 or 4-8.

The program doesn’t have the resources to attract the best offensive players, which is what is needed to successfully execute a modern offense. We need a Football Fieldhouse and NIL support to compete for the best players.

We are not beating out Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, Penn State or USC for kids. So we are playing a style which maximizes our chances for success. We are going to mostly run the ball, just like Wisconsin and Iowa.
Oh just stop making sense Al!
Brains will break around here and it'll be all your fault.
You mean rotten bastard..😂😂😂

Maybe HC Schiano is a big internatial basketball/Fran Fraschilla fan.

It sounds like HC Schiano is saying we are “two years away from being two years away”.

It takes time to show results against the quality competition we face. Most of our peers are better resourced and better supported. There’s no winning with smoke and mirrors in this conference. We either have talent or we don’t.

He is getting smoked by guys that never had the field house.

Al,

With all due respect, I see MAC teams that have a modern offense.
Against other MAC teams😂😂😂
Let's trot one of them out against a B1G defense and see what happens. Have ambulances ready.

With all due respect, many folks on this board have no clue what it takes to be competitive in the B1G. Forget about being good. That's a whole 'nother level.

UNC Charlotte scored 21 on that same Maryland team

Even as recently as a few years ago. I ran into the head scout for the 49ers after the Michigan game (he used to work for us). I said "I know you're not here for any of our guys!" We both laughed our asses off.

This is the hole Schiano is building a ladder out of. We are about to peek above ground. That's when things get much better, much faster.

I was there too. His recruiting got progressively worse, and his team lost too many people to academics, and you can’t explain that away. Lastly, His ‘92 team lost to 1-7 Cincinnati, so to paint him as some type of coaching savant is 8 jokes in one.

Lastly, Schiano negotiated for the academic support which was implemented.
Very interesting, correct me if I am wrong, but didn't your hero lose to Cincinnati 30-11 the game after his awe-inspiring Pandemonium in Piscataway victory over that tradition rich and daunting college football program, the Louisville Cardinals. I guess your hero isn't some type of coaching savant either, I would probably guess 9 jokes in one.

FYI you don't need a roster full of NFL players to beat Temple with a new coach and a true freshman QB, or beat a Nebraska team that just fired their coach, or merely score on Minnesota or Maryland. Those are red flags in Year 3.

. . . .

You mean the hole Greg Schiano dug for us when he bolted for the money and the fame of the NFL right in the middle of recruiting season? A hole we have never come close to climbing out of by the way even with him back from his highly successful NFL career.

Yes. Thank God there’s year 4.,5 and 6 etc.
That’s why this whole thread is bogus.
Win lose or draw it will play out on the field.
All the whining you negatoids do isn’t going to change a thing. Let it play out. If he’s as bad as you say, there will be a new coach here. If it plays out like the rest of us think it will, Schiano will be here for a long time.
We will indeed plan our vacations around bowl games. Only difference is the BIG bowls games are harder to achieve but they are in much better venues and are a lot more prestigious than the old Big East bowls.

Just one writer's prediction for the B10 this year, Mandel in the Athletic.

Michigan 8-1/11-1
PSU 8-1/11-1
OSU 7-2/10-2
Maryland 6-3/9-3
MSU 4-5/6-6
RU 2-7/5-7
IU 0-9/2-10

Wisconsin 7-2/9-3
Iowa 6-3/9-3
Illinois 5-4/7-5
Minn 4-5/6-6
Neb 3-6/5-7
Purdue 3-6/5-7
NW 0-9/2-10
I'm pretty sure @NickRU714 , me and others would not consider that close to middle of the pack. More lock bottom of the sack. 😬

Anybody on here who criticizes Greg for trying a coaching gig in the NFL shouldn't be taken seriously.

The move was timed terribly for us and Greg would be the first to say so. He had no control over that and had to take guys with him just to function.

Had he turned it down he'd be kicking himself for the rest of his life.

Yes the guy left. The rest is on the old administration not Schiano. C’mon man, they we thrilled they didn’t have to pay a coach 2 million dollars. Look at all the money they saved! That’s all they cared about. Or they would have hired an experienced coach.

He might be kicking himself, but we would be winning games. Some of you need to get your priorities in order, are you Greg Schiano fans or Rutgers fans? I am a Rutgers fan, I don't give a crap if Greg Schiano went thru his remaining life kicking himself for not taking a job as the Tampa Bay HC, the man made a commitment to Rutgers, the kids in the program, the recruits, the administration, the alumni, and the fans, yet he bolted and took a portion of his staff with him in the most crucial time of the recruiting season and now that he is back he wants to use the mess he left us with as a reason as to why he needs 6, 7, 8 years to put a .500 team on the field, total bunch of BS.

After the biggest victory in program history, it was understandable. He’s the best coach we’ve ever had.

Greg Schiano is a football coach, not a magician. Talent needs to be acquired and developed, which takes time. Want to win sooner? Then people need to pony up to get the needed talent. Otherwise they will just have to be patient. This is Rutgers, not fantasyland.

Looking at this year's schedule everything would have to go right to finish 6-6. We would need to win all the winnable games on the schedule (NW, Temple, VaTech, Wagner, MSU, Indiana). Five of the remaining six games are against top10/25 teams (tOSU, Mich, PSU, Iowa, Wisc). The chances of us winning any of these games are slim especially the first three. Maryland is unpredictable so it's tough to put them in any category.
What I'd like to see is a minimum of 5 wins and stay competitive with the five tough ones. As I've mentioned before What HAS TO STOP are the 30 something to nothing games against teams like Minnesota and Maryland. If we are 5-6 or even 4-7 going into the final game against MD and get stomped again that would be concerning.

Colby - I predict halfway thru the season you won’t continue watching live in Thailand overnight or on replay. The box score will be all you will view.

This last statement is highly concerning. Al has gone from National Championships to accepting below .500. Tells you even he doesn’t believe anymore.

if he had even a quarter of the support, RU was a winner

there it is, we nee RU fans and not coach fans

never forget, 'if you don't support me then you are not a fan'. He didn't say Rutgers, he said ME.

Is anybody honestly comparing Doug Graber to Greg Schiano as an X's and O's football coach, too funny. As a salesman, con artist, charlatan, used car salesman, confidence man, then of course, there is no comparison either, agreed.

Wow!!! Don't like the coach? Ok
Want him to be fired? Sure
But some of you guys need to bring it down a notch. Attack his style, attack his offensive philosophy, attack his recruiting. But when you start to attack a man's integrity don't we think that's a little too much?

Well, he doesn’t use his turn signal and goes slow in the left lane.

So yeah, it’s warranted.

He’s not really ‘south’ though. Virginia and NC are fringe south…. He’s making $1.25 million, I PROMISE you he would jump at a P5 HC offer.

I’m all ears, but where else are we gonna find a coach whose a current HC, has been for the last 15 years, has a track record of turning around 4 seperate programs and currently coaches 6 hours away down 95?
ECU opens up with Michigan this year. Be interested in how that plays out.

Maryland. Schiano was getting beat by them prior to any facility upgrade.
Maryland’s new indoor practice facility was opened in 2017. Schiano II started in 2020, and we beat them that year due to Arturs heroics. Haven’t beaten them since.

Prior, Schiano lost to them in ‘07 but beat them in ‘09. So not sure what you’re referring to.

Schiano had a plan, which is why he got the support. A lot of his ideas came from his experiences at Penn State and Miami. Most importantly, how to ensure the academic success of his players.
