Greg Schiano: Rutgers football is closing in on a time when fans can ‘plan their holiday trips around our bowls’

Guys like him don't seem to grasp that. "Schiano will be here for 5 more years whether he wins or not" shows that what they care about is Schiano and not the team doing well.
He ‘ll be here 3-4 more after this one. You can cry me a River DUDE… ha ha ha.

No I didn’t. Your problem with him is his offensive philosophy. So it turns out it’s not his philosophy it’s that he doesn’t have the horses. It’s his 4th year. First recruits are now seniors. I believe we can get to Wisconsin recruiting level. It’s just not going to happen overnight.
That’s just a stupid view. If he doesn’t have the horses he’s got to adapt to his roster.

It’s an insult to all of us that you think it’s a good idea to continue with the same futile philosophy every week and year. We couldnt even run on Temple and you don’t think the philosophy is the issue. Ha ha ha.

Temple had more first downs than our stellar Schiano offense did. If not for the pick 6, our stellar Schiano offense loses to Temple.

Do you actually have live clients whom you give clinical advice to? Man that is freaking scary. No wonder young kids need help when nut jobs are given degrees to counsel others.

Yeah well. I think you have a stupid view. So there. Stop your whining and deal with it. He isn’t going anywhere.

But unfortunately none here have any control over his status and what comes down the road . Board warriors claiming to be true fans but for some reason it is seen by numerous other fanbases.
How do you think he got here this time?

If those who make the decisions aren’t happy, things can change. And fast.

He is here for 3-4 years after this one. If you really want Rutgers to succeed hope Schiano’s plan part 2 works. If we don’t succeed this time and he goes it’ll take another 3-4 years.

That particular word you used was called out by a number of people who regularly post on this site. It is a word used quite commonly for decades. During the pandemic pre 2016 elections the back and forth here was in someways quite vicious . One poster said something about” how r__ —it was to call them out for a medical description used over and over by groups who sponsored those afflicted individuals. So bright eyes it never offended me but it certainly offended some posters who used it to attack them on a WORD but that’s continued to be their mantra.
you sir need to grow up and stop being a guy that ruins this forum. If you don't like something, move on

stop being retarded

Can you imagine fans so pathetic and fawning over a coach that all they can do to defend him is launch personal attacks on critics? Here's an easy solution: win some games. Better yet win some games over good opponents. Hell, just have an entertaining offense. Only Rutgers would have fans so pathetic they think fans who want to see good football are out of line.
100%

it's sad to see mature men fawn, excuse, make up viewpoints and more all so they can protect their own fragile psyche. The true issue here is many of our fans are so desperate for some sort of success, they'll create the divide to protect their viewpoint rather than objectively look at what is right in front of them

Greg is failing by every measure we use to define success on the field. No one is countering that point but say retarded and wholly moses do panties get in a furl.

shhhhhh, that breaks the narrative but is spot on. GS cultists can't seem to grasp what's in front of them. A good coach adjusts, recruits for need now and the future, makes his kids better, creates a competitive environment where excellence is rewarded and learns to grow and change his/her own style

He's only got 1 of those thus far in 2.0

didn't you attack people who early on told you that Ash was going to fail miserably? You were a strong Ash supporter as well

A good HC also manages the QB position well.

Schiano has a history of mis -managing the QB position year after year.

I’m skeptical whether he deserves the benefit of doubt but it’s concerning with reports of how Wimsatt has performed to date and GS not recruiting any QBs per the portal.

Let’s hope for the best !

If I did it was in 1st year … year two we knew we weren’t going anywhere… year three I gave up my tix on the 50 yard line after 42 years so no. You continuously post crap … you are exactly the type who posts only negativity.

You joined in 2005 the year we finished 7-5 … in 2006 this piss poor HC finished 11-2 and number 12 in the nation . Schiano swept all the coaching awards easily. So when did your personal dislike for him start?

BTW: I have always supported the coach , team and players realizing many things you and a few others refuse to admit. You seem to post nothing but negativity anything related to Rutgers. PPOS.

Phil …. benefit of the doubt only applies when there’s doubt. There’s been no doubt.

Money situation is improved. Each additional year is an increase in B10 revenue and the new tv deal also takes effect. Also the last 2 years of his contract are at 50% so it would be about as much as Ash was paid when he was fired if GS was let go after 5 years.

I've always said 5 years is the max any coach has to get to .500. I haven't found one example that went beyond that. I only found like around 4 examples that went beyond 4 years without a .500 record.
In Big Ten or anywhere in D1?

Vanderbilt didn't finish with a .500 or better record for all 7 years of Derek Mason.

Rice is currently in Year 6 with Bloomgren and he's yet to hit .500.

I looked pretty much in the P5 but I would’ve suspected it applies in the G5 too.

When I say ,500, it’s regular season I’m talking about not including the bowl game. Mason finished twice at .500. I didn’t look in the G5 but Bloomgren at Rice is a good find though. Point is, it’s very rare and still haven’t found one in somewhat modern times in the P5.

Whatever moron.. I’m talking about his defense style/philosophy. He needs the horses. It’s his 4th year folks. First recruits are now seniors. Get a grip.
This is 2023! Transfer rules are entirely different and full rosters are turned over in about 3 years at this point.

You see this is the problem, you still think football works the same way it did 20 years ago. People stuck with their memories refusing to acknowledge that our coach was a lifeless broken man at every press conference last year that has shown us next to nothing in the form of improvement (no, 1 conference win at home in 3 seasons is not impressive).

This coming from a man who ran out 3 seperate qb’s for 3 consecutive snaps to start the season last year, the coach most famous for charging opponents as they take a knee. Don’t even get me started on the end of the first half Michigan state fiasco deciding not to run a 2 min drill with 1:33 on the clock, 3 timeouts, down 7 in a game we wound up losing by 6… UNFORGIVABLE!!!

What you are missing is those of us critical of Schiano, want Rutgers to win so much that we’re willing to call out a man universally beloved by our fanbase whose time has past…. I think that’s the biggest issue the Schiano loyalists have, taking criticism of Greg 2.0 as an attack on his previous accomplishments which couldn’t be further from the truth. This is just Randy Edsall 2.0 at UConn, some just don’t want to admit it

Lol that’s got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have heard. No one wants the team to continue to suck so they feel better about themselves
It’s correct. I think we can easily name them . Just review all the comments from some of the hater RU group you will see they absolutely want RU to fail. Go back two years if you want on those posts and you will see what we are talking about .

Well, it is not firing him between the last preseason scrimmage and the first game. That is not "riding it out".

One has to question the logic of mounting an "insurrection" right now. (yes, the meaning of insurrection has been changed). Is this nonsense coming up now because you are actually worried about being stuck with GS because he might show progress this season? And right now, he is 0-0 on the season so you can imagine whatever you like.

Butch Jones was the leading candidate before GS was hired. He is 5-19 in 2 years at Arkansas State in the Sunbelt.

I know you all seem to find some hot coach somewhere and say, we should have hired him instead.. but that is not being realistic.
We should have and still can hire Mike Houston. I have not shut up about this for 4 years. Attainable, east coast, turned around now 4 separate programs as a HC, currently making $1.25 million a year…. There’s our coach. I’ve been saying it for years

Dude you’re so full of it.. I’m sure I qualify as one of the posters you are referring to, so do me a favor and go back and watch Greg’s press conferences last year. You will see a lifeless, unmotivated coach who has no answers. It’s clear he didn’t know what to do last year, not that he didn’t try, he didn’t know what to do!

This is a man who all season praised how we would be ‘Better in November’- we were outscored 202-48 in November with an 0-4 record!!!

Spare me the righteousness approach of blindly supporting a man who refused to bring in a new QB this off-season after what we saw last season, a man who is counting on a D1-AA reciever from last year to be our X…. It’s ridiculous, it’s a thrown together mess.

Greg’s got THIS YEAR to turn it around, times up. We can’t continue to support a man who is incapable of calling anything but a RB dive on 100% of first downs

Yep you are definitely one of the RU haters we are all talking about. I suggest you go “root” for a different team it will be better for your health. Move along little boy.

You have been the biggest Mike Houston fan north of the Mason Dixon line. But he just seems like the kind of guy who wouldn’t want to leave the South IMO

Little boy? Oh child you don’t even want to start here, by the time I’m done with you you will be curled up in a ball in your dog’s crate.. I can’t help it that you are more married to a coach than the program.

What you are missing is the reason people like me want Greg gone, is because we understand it’s the only way we’re going to win.

Sorry you must not have a Rutgers degree like I do and lack the critical thinking skills required to understand this…. Carry on

He’s not really ‘south’ though. Virginia and NC are fringe south…. He’s making $1.25 million, I PROMISE you he would jump at a P5 HC offer.

I’m all ears, but where else are we gonna find a coach whose a current HC, has been for the last 15 years, has a track record of turning around 4 seperate programs and currently coaches 6 hours away down 95?

Rutgers roster did not turn over in 3 years because there wasn’t enough money. USC turned over their roster in 3 years because they can buy the best players money can buy.

We were 6 points away from 6 wins last year. That is improvement. Our incoming class fixes many of the offensive talent issues. This shows that we’re on the right track, as our classes are getting better.

Al, we were 3 point away from being a 2 win team last year. You know nothing about football kid, you actually went on record stating you would take Greg Schiano over Nick Saban. All the RutgersAl bs aside, you are the single most embarrassing college football fan on the planet. Every friggan fanbase in the country makes fun of you Al, they all know you are a joke.

Gimme a break our classss are getting better, we’re never doing jack sh*t in this conference with a team full of 2-3*’s who chose Rutgers because it was their only P5 offer.. ridiculous! Stop sugar coating garbage…. This team is garbage, point blank. I’m so sick of sucking and yet here we are year after f*cking year having the same debate because idiots like you can’t get over the fact that this isn’t 2006 anymore!

Stop trying to talk intelligent football clown, you are the literal definition of insanity, saying the same things over and over expecting a different result

Greg Schiano knows a lot more about building Rutgers into a successful program than Nick Saban does. Bama has been buying great college football players for a long time now. That’s not a viable strategy at Rutgers, which is why Nick Saban isn’t coming within 500 miles of this job, especially because it’s too much work.

Al, you need therapy. If Nick Saban came to Rutgers we would be a top 10 program within 3 years. Now it’s never gonna happen, but you have a real hard time excepting that perception is reality. No high school prospect gets excited about playing for Greg Schiano, they do however jump at the opportunity to play for Saban.

Sit down Al, stop embarrassing yourself further. While you’re at it, I’ll find the first 3 months, how’s the eHarmony profile coming? We’ve gotta get you a girlfriend Al. Enough is enough. Friends don’t let fellow friends in their 40’s continue a mindset typically reserved for 14 years olds the way your mind works

Again, utter nonsense and totally not understanding how the transfer portal works. Most kids are not entering the transfer portal to make huge NIL money, that is just the elite players. The vast majority are there seeking a program that gives them a better opportunity to showcase their talents and they will go anywhere a coach gives them a chance. We are playing a team the second week of the season that fired their version of Ash two years ago and the new regime has literally turned over the entire roster going into their second season. Temple will have 50, yes 50 new players on the roster since we played them last year. Nobody is going to Temple for the NIL money. Temple has zero facilities, practically nothing to offer as far as NIL money, located in a war zone, and poor academics. Yet, their coach in his first year was able to recruit a QB that is one of 85 players on the Maxwell Award list presented annually to the outstanding player in college football in 2023, go figure. And he used the transfer portal this year to bring in a core of receivers who know they have a QB that can get them the damn ball.

Now, we have a head coach going into his 4th year of a rebuild in a far superior position in every category than a Temple head coach, there simply is no excuse for not reaching a bowl game this year. This is all about the HC and his stubbornness and inability to adapt to the modern game.

I don’t think any rutgers fans really wants us to lose. When I predicted ash would get us smashed , I sure as hell wanted to be wrong and not be subjected to that transpired.

I guess I could see if you really believe schiano isn’t the guy, you want to move on from him as quickly as possible . But I don’t think that strokes anyone’s ego. If your ego is based on rutgers losing football games, than you would have off the charts high self esteem.
Was that you who created the “Ash will get a smashed” thread? I remember that thread and huge shout out to you if you were the creator. You were 100% spot on! Ash got us smashed and took all that Greg built and smashed us back to the bottom of college football. That is why I am willing to be patient with Greg. While I would love to win now, I am happy that we are just starting to play competent football again. I believe Greg will get us at the very minimum to perennial mid to upper mid BIG pack. For some that will not be enough but there are only so many “elite” coaches.

Have you asked yourself what are the academic and criminal records of those that landed at Temple? Might be the answer about why no NIL. Betting no scholastic all Americans.

Academic records, probably not the greatest, but there are plenty of classes they can take at Rutgers even back in my day that you pretty much just had to show up and could get a C. Criminal records, I doubt very seriously they have criminal records, that is kind of a borderline comment. The point wasn't that we want the Temple recruits, it was that a head coach that knows how to use the transfer portal doesn't necessarily have to have a wad of cash in his back pocket to rebuild a roster. Playing time, coaching, playing with other players that can bring out your talent are all important factors to recruiting the transfer portal.
