Houston needs to be a power 5 conference Flagship in the state of Texas. Whether the Big 12 expands or not it's still may be a ticking time bomb waiting on The Longhorns, Cowboys and Sooners to leave. Hiuston has the potential to be a gem and it should be treated as so. My ideal of expansion goes as such.

B1G: Oklahoma + Houston ( no baggage and little trouble)
ACC: Tulane + Houston (football basketball talent-rich areas and Wealthy donors)
PAC: SMU + Houston (Large TV Market desperately needed, Rich donors, talented regions)

"The school has the potential to be a gym and it should be treated as so" huh?

SMU to the PAC12= OK, your entire theory just died.
My entire theory was dead when I suggested the Pac-12 pursuit Houston. This is no longer a theory. Welcome to the new age when TV Market outweighs how many fans you can pack in your stadium.

Lol.

When it comes to conference realignment, BBR has an admirable knack for talking with authority ... by way of his @$$ hole.

Houston's gonna have a very difficult time keeping Hermann.

When he leaves, will Houston be able to reproduce this level of success.

I'm skeptical.

I've been calling Houston the next Miami long before Hermann got there my friend. The city Houston's produce more NFL Talent than any city in America. Just like Rutgers, Maryland and Illinois they were long overdue.

Dude, I'm not surprised, it's Black Mecca. One of the few cities in America where Black People are comfortable in their own skin.

LSU and USC will pay Hermann, whatever he wants.

What happens after Hermann will be very interesting. Can Houston sustain it?

No chance. In conference realignment, likes attract likes. The Big takes huge state universities of excellent academic reputation, that pump out a lot of students and even more research. Similar for the PAC. The SEC is all about playing football in the south. The ACC takes basketball schools, that also play football, and who now how to cheat. ND is the exception.

sorry but Houston will always sit behind Texas, A & M, and Tech in casual fan appeal. They are the UCF / USF of Texas.

In Californial you have UCLA and Cal for publics along with USC and Stanford in privates. The other schools as good as they may be in a given year (Fresno / SD St) will be no better than a Houoston, USF, or UCF.

Dude I don't care what they do interms of fan base. It's about whether they can be any good for the long run.

Houston now proven they are willing to pay the money. It's all up to whether they make the right hire if Hermann ever decides to leave.

I called for the Big East to bring in TCU, Houston, UCF, ECU, Tulane, which is exactly what the Big East and the AAC expanded to the minute they got a chance.

I wouldn't use the Big East in any argument. They were desperate and run by idiots.

I do remember you clamoring for TCU way before anybody else even suggested it. The Big East definitely waited too long but in reality even if they had moved quicker the big conferences probably would have just picked who they wanted a little earlier anyway.

Houston in the BIG probably isn't going to happen but IF it did ... boy they'd be a good program, that's for sure.

1. None of those calls make you a visionary. They were obvious choices, picked in order of level of obviousness.

2. The BE/AAC didn't do it "the minute they got a chance," it was more like "the minute they had no choice," the only exception being TCU, which is also the only one that didn't end up joining.

They were not obvious choices. People thought I was batshit crazy for even suggesting going into Texas. Considering the NFC East I thought it was only logical and possible. TCU and Houston should have been picked up immediately after Virginia Tech and Miami left. The Houston area anf the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is a serious producer of both basketball and football Talent.

People aren't considering the fact that college football is now mainstream and will absolutely be in the Big Four major sport leagues in America. This means it is no longer a rural game and major metropolitan areas with and without NFL teams are now and play.
