What's happening on the recruiting front? Anything look promising? Given all the injuries we've had this year and the loss of Daniels / Lewis (next)...we have to be able to sell playing time.

So...?

Thanks

MO

Think I did...so we have 3 to fill.

Well, hope Eddie / staff are GETTING BUSY!

Would be great to get some talent ...any talent on the level of Corey- that would give us a chance to win a few / recruit even better in the year's after.

Of course getting a facelift (as long as it doesn't resemble the woman who now looks like a constipated lioness) or even better a new building would HELP immensely - but imo WINNING comes first !!!

Four open spots ( Grier, Lewis, Bishop, plus one from 2015 the staff rolled over)

No Sanders type talents on the horizon

Let's hope that there are some Sanders types on the Horizon....or Eddie's days are numbered, and Rutgers will remain mired in a 25+ year drought!

Disappointing to read zags blog everyday with recruiting updates, especially for NJ kids, and no to little mention of any Rutgers offers, meanwhile seton hall is all over the place

Extremely deflating to read this stuff day after day. Not sure how it is even possible to not have any "possibilities" at this point.

If you read the other threads there are possibilities. Issa Thiam for one.

It's been quiet on the recruiting trail

RU has to at least get Issa Thiam. Easily the best prospect left on Rutgers radar and fills a need in a long athletic wing player

He's also being recruited by St. John's though..

This is taking as long as it took him to hire Mike O'Koren. I'd normally say having 8 months without an assistant coach recruiting is devastating, but I don't think the guy he selected ever recruited so it wouldn't have mattered.

It's quiet for a reason. At this time last year we had Corey Sanders signed. We began recruiting Freeman in October.

So Thiam is one player we lead for. And Nigel will hopefully be good. But we are talking about improving enough in Year 4 to make a decision on Jordan.

As I scan for news, Rutgers is not currently involved with any Big Ten starters and you don't BEGIN to recruit them in the spring. That work is done much earlier.

Eddie criticized his own talent base after Wisconsin game. So he's saying Foreman and Williams are as good as Wisconsins secondary players.

We haven't targeted one legit big man in 2016 class. Taurean Thompson is not coming.

So we actually lose Lewis and Diallo and Doorson are coming off serious injuries.

There is just so much misinformation out there (This Board) about recruiting. There were many comments on this board in the last month about Rutgers and Jordan not recruiting the so called Five 5 for 2018......YET, two separate sources confirmed Rutgers is recruiting them. In fact, here's some quotes.

Naz Reid
The junior told SNY.tv that Seton Hall, Connecticut, Providence, SMU, Arizona State, Notre Dame, St. Louis and Rutgers have recruited him the hardest.

Luther Muhammad
6'4" 4* Luther Muhammad cited Seton Hall, Virginia, ND, Pitt, Cincy, Rutgers recruiting him the hardest.

Trust and believe no offers have went out to those 2 sports u kids mentioned above and that comes from speaking with the key players in their program handling the recruitment of the fab 5. Yea Rutgers has been in the gym at the schools of those players mentioned above but no offer extended

And I still haven't seen a link where we offered Naz Reid. Louis King, also 2018, never mentioned us and we never offered. Why not offer all five? Why one and not the others?

Reid was never offered by Rutgers. How can we recruit someone the hardest and not offer. He's a friggin 5-star kid!

Luther Muhammad has interest but no offer yet. He's worth offering but staff is way late again.

Rutgers hasn't offered his Sports U teammate Louis King either while St Jouns and Hall have.

Eddie didn't think it was worth offering until he gets killed by the media? Why not hustle and do the job before you get called out for it. Very Lavinesque and we all know how he left the St Johns program

Fact is the staff does not have the energy or swagger to get it done.

No one thinks Rutgers will out recruit some of those programs but they're from NJ and it doesn't cost a lot to visit a gym and a game when you are off. The best coaches find a way

There are a couple of names and offers out there with some visits set up. How viable they are for the staff and player being a piece that can contribute immediately is up for debate.

We are in a position where we are looking at pieces that are not "starters" for next year. Any recruits that are not JUCO's are likely players that can play but will bide their time as underclassmen, while Freeman, Nigel Johnson and the two bigs essentially are coming off of redshirt seasons this year.

The need for players really gets accelerated if we don't see any improvement from the kids playing this year....I would like to think Foreman, Williams, Sanders, Laurent and Goode all get long looks to see whether they improve from January through March. Strides made by Williams at Wisconsin (7-12 FG's and 20 points) were positives. Just need Foreman to improve this year, where he can be counted on for more points and putbacks around the basket.

RU's improvement is coaching/defensive philosophy related more than not enough recruiting of players. Every recruit doesn't need to be a potential starter at this stage. This roster is more than capable on both ends of the floor next year, if everyone is healthy and Sanders goes from this year to an improved player next year. The rest is up to whether we can win home games vs Nebraska, Illinois, Minnesota and Penn State. I know we are down on the roster and no recruits is a huge concern, but I feel confident on Thiam and a couple of other names I've heard about. But make no mistakes about it, RU needs a couple of wins along the way. Getting some wins and improvement from the current roster will make a difference. Saturdays game vs Nebraska would go a very long way for the program.

Okay, those are direct quotes....who's lying, the source or your "key players in their program handling the recruitment" ?

And Choppin you do know just because the quote says their being recruited does not mean an offer was extended. It's called interest it happens all the time

Ok well the 2 people handling their recruitment such as their aau coach and aau program president have stated that Rutgers has not offered any of the 5. Choppin no need to believe me but I know a bit more about the 5. I have been apart of the SportsU program for 4 years and am an assistant coach with their 17U program and in a recent meeting with the 2018 SportsU coach. It was stated that Rutgers has not offered any of the 5 2018 kids.

Any idea why they said Rutgers is one of the schools recruiting them the hardest? One of the sources I referenced was Zagsblog.

Could be because they are in the gyms at the practices and games and actively showing interest. But in my opinion. Offers were probably not extended because the staff has to focus on 2016 and 2017 which are more of an immediate need. Staffs actively recruit kids and then extended offers at later dates. I have seen it throughout the years. 2018 is 3 classes away. I love Eddie and the stability he brought back to the program after Mike rice but this staff may not be here for 1 more class let alone 3.

It happens. It's apart of the game. Because even though the offer hasn't been extended. You're building the relationship for when the time comes and you do extend the offer. Recruiting analysts just stated it on Twitter regarding buddy hield. Kansas was recruiting him hard but dragged their feet on the offer and Oklahoma locked him. Not comparing us to Kansas because I don't think we have the stain to drag on offers but it's apart of the numbers game.

Thanks for the info
It's nice to know the real story
Hopefully RU turns it around with local kids someday

I'm not sure there's a sufficient recognition here of how very bad it is to completely whiff on any recruits in the fall and to place all your hopes on the riskier and significantly less stocked waters of late recruiting, all while having a bunch of slots to be filled. This won't end well.

Jax Levitch.

Btw, as far as 5 stars, Rutgers won't sniff a a 5 star until we make the dance. We could never get a Karl Towns from PISCATAWAY. Make the dance with what we got first then a 5 star and handlers will at least listen.
