Karl Hobbs to expected to take lead Georgia Tech Job

Analysis of what? Attention seeking gossip? I guess more discreet "coaches" are giving you the "gossip" to feed a message board? And I don't pretend to or need to be considered a guru about basketball like yourself. You want/need that title for some reason.

I've always found it interesting - the need to be an authority when posting.
Nobody here knows anything.
Even insiders - on most things.
Maybe they do on some things - but tend to blur the lines between "insider" and "speculation".

Just a simple change of words goes so far.
Instead of saying: "Clif will hit 3s next year. No doubt"
Try instead: "Clif could..." or "Hopefully Clif will....."

Similar. "Random Guy could/should/will get offers to be a HC in the next weeks" instead of "He will be a HC within the next couple of weeks."

did it with football.....did with the yankees (as my 2nd team)....i am very close

Why not just pull the trigger instead of continuing to posture about it.....not like NIL and the Portal are going away any time soon. Guessing that you'll bring us all good luck and give up your season tix just in time for an RU Final 4 run the next year.

Nuance is a foreign concept on message boards and social media in general.

Haven't we as fans for years talked about how wrong this practice is. With NIL and transfer portal it is now the Wild West.

I am getting closer to putting college basketball in the grave right next to where I put college football.
Which is fine, but to say don’t hire a guy because his team gave up a lot of points in an all-star game where the teams are just thrown together is silly.

Yes sir, Hooper. A zealot for a guy who has bled Scarlet from the day he was born, was a Rutgers lead manager and who has a career goal of being the Rutgers basketball head coach, in addition to the best Hoop Group contacts anywhere and anytime. Good call on that one. I can't wait for hoops guru 66 to join in on your impeccable and hard hitting analysis.
For a bright guy, you're pretty dense on this issue. I have absolutely NOTHING negative to say about Brett M. He has a good resume, I'm sure he's a fine coach and will someday be an excellent head coach. My problem is your declarative statements saying it would be "strange" if Pikes hired someone else, and there couldn't possibly be a better candidate. I don't even have a problem with you stumping for your guy, but what you state are not absolutes, and trying to position it as a mistake by Pikes if he goes in another direction is not fair. Pikes is the HC, and should it come to pass he'll make the choice he wants.

Knight was the lead recruiter for Ace.
I know I’m just kidding around with
People who always claim the sky is falling.

Knight is Aces godfather — when he comes here with another 3 studs to go along with baye Davis and Gavin in 23 we will BIG

Close but no cigar.

Ace plays for Athletes Of Tomorrow AAU program, which is ran by Omar Cooper. Mr. Cooper played basketball at NJCU and most notably the father of former five-star guard Sharife Cooper. Now how is he connected to Rutgers? He has a sister, Te’a Cooper (Current WNBA Free Agent / Tennessee / Newark native) and her godfather is Brandin Knight.

GTech has some ancient success in basketball. It could be they have some monied support for NIL to try to make a move to rekindle that history.. old history with NYC elite programs. Hmmm.. I kinda have to wonder now who Hobbs was lead recruiter with and if they had GTech on their radar as well.... hmmm....
Ancient? That's kinda harsh lol.

Georgia Tech won the ACC Tournament in 2021. They played in the NCAA Tournament championship game in 2004.

He's earned it?? He doesn't even want Bailey and Harper to come to Rutgers lol. He deserves to sit at home on the couch and watch reruns of the Brady Bunch and remember the good ole days to fill all his extra time.

Is that really true, Green? I mean I personally can’t understand not wanting any 5 star but how could you not want Harper of all kids to choose Rutgers?

Even if Dylan only stays for one year (which would be because he’d be foolish to turn down lottery money) the story of him coming and carrying on the family legacy at Rutgers would be huge for the program. But it’s more than just this. The fact that he’s a local star could really help boost our following in state - especially up north. When was the last time a Bosco kid (or any of the Bergen County schools) chose Rutgers for hoops?

I am concerned about one and dones. I think it is high risk and high reward.

I don’t not want them coming here, but I wouldn’t be upset if they didn’t.

The Dylan Harper I saw in a HS game has a long way to go in the effort and defense category.

well.. really.. for an ancient guy like me those Bobby Cremin teams were what I was thinking of.

I can see what you're saying. I'd hate to see Rutgers become Duke like in the one and dones every year.
I don't think they (coaching staff) want Cunningham for example. If you think Harper's energy is low, watch him play. Amazing talent though.
COVID years are almost done and NCAA basketball will get a bit younger when those are done.

This amusing response from a Georgia Tech hoops message board poster responding to “The Rutgers board does not think much of him (Hobbs) (or Tech for that matter). Weird.”

It's because their fans know Rutgers was only accepted into the B1G after GT turned the B1G down...and they know we're just a better school than them.

Of course, Rutgers will soon be making $100 million a year with the B1G. That's a lot of wings, bottles, and wholesome family entertainment at Magic City to drown their inferiority complex...

I don’t think we’d need to worry about us becoming a perennial one and done factory or anything. In the case of Bailey and Harper, the stars sort of aligned to enable us to be involved with two top 5 prospects (close family connects). I think the goal is for them to both grow into lotto picks / 1st rounders, and then we leverage that NBA success to sustainably recruit high-level, multi-year talent — see the UCONN model, a bunch of players ranked 30-100, no one and dones.

Is it an option for a one and done for Pike to not give them starters minutes?

Pike playing these guys 15-20 minutes has the potential of taking millions off their 1st contract.

No it doesn’t. Plenty of one and done frosh didn’t average starter minutes on teams like UK. They are drafted based on potential.

Sort of like having Jaden Jones in the rotation when he shouldn't have been.

Jaden Jones had like one good AAU tournament and we turned him into Rip Hamilton on this board. Some hyperbole there but you get it. I don’t recall him playing much here. His highlight film from college was one corner three. Comparing that to giving Ace starters minutes is pretty far off.

Uconn's top recruit for next year is #9-15 depending on where you look and has said he wants to be one and done.
True, though they did just win the title off the strength of guys in that 30-100 range. I don’t think sprinkling in a one and done every once in a while is a bad thing for any program, but I don’t expect them to follow in the path of the Duke / Kentucky model of the last decade-plus

Our 2021-22 season was almost ruined by force feeding him minutes. The season was turned around the day he was dropped from the rotation.

He played double digit minutes in a single B1G conference game which not coincidentally was also his first. After that he averaged about 3 minutes a game before shutting down. He was given an opportunity and didn’t deliver. Next.
