Name your favorite spot for a Pizza Pie

Joe's Pizzeria - Vauxhall, NJ
My vote as well.
Grew up on Joe's Pizza and King of Pizza across the parking lot from Joe's
Brothers own those places and considered it family feud until KOP's owner died and familty didn't continue the business . Making Joe's the place to buy great pies.
When back in Jersey make it a point to buy a pie there and never disappointed.

When I moved to Scranton PA about 10 years ago pizza was probably the thing that I missed most about NJ. When I moved here everyone raved about "Old Forge pizza". Old Forge is a town located near Scranton that has dubbed itself "The Pizza Capital Of The World". I tried, I nearly threw up. It is the only fresh pizza that makes frozen pizza seem good. Here are a few articles about the town...

As you can tell from the pictures - this is serious crap. American and cheddar cheese should never go anywhere near a pizza.
Luckily, I did finally find a pizzaria in Scranton itself called Mamma Mia's that had a Brooklyn background and produces a pie as good as anything I've had in NJ.

If I make that game I'm going to hit a few Italian joints for sure ... but I'm going to eat pizza there, not pie.
We'll order Pizza Pie. The four slices of pizza on your half are yours. The four slices of pie facing me are all mine - they are always the best tasting. Ps., you don't use a knife and fork do you? If so, deal is off.

Not that I've come across but we do make this up here ....

Have you had it? Looks really interesting and I can see it being mixed with certain drinks. When you put it on a bagel with cream cheese, does it get soggy?

Who is this Alaska guy telling jersey folks you can't call it a pie? That's something in our culture what is his problem?

Little known fact..... If you go in and order a pizza, you get a cheap generic version....... BUT, if you order a pizza pie, you get the full glorious version.....

Mr Alaska would be missing out on a real treat.

There's a place in Brooklyn...maybe Bensonhurst...right off The Belt IIRC....huge outdoor and indoor space...can't recall the name but the best "grandma" slice I've ever had.

Awwwww, everyone knows the original was way better.

Simple response: older ovens = better pie!

(I'm sure #'s will give me a way-too-wordy-response regarding how, in some way, the # of named storms in any given year has more of an effect on the taste of a pie, than ovens do, but whatever :cool2: )

I actually think the quality of the pizza at the original location was somehow related to the near soup-nazi way the little old ladies that ran the place treated customers. The pizza was so freaking good, they could get away with it. The same recipe is used in South Amboy by the old Harbor Lights people. But the pizza, while good, doesn't have the same greatness it did at the original location.

I really need to get back and see how it is in the Sciortinos reopens location in Perth Amboy.

We all love it. They still use the same recipe, with the sauce being the magical part for me - it's amazing. I had always heard they couldn't move the original coal ovens, so I doubt they're in the new place in Perth Amboy - road trip, although you can't eat pizza with that crazy diet, lol.

They also make a wonderful spaghetti with meatballs/sausage, with similarly awesome sauce. And their mussels with marinara and their wings are freakin' good too.

Grew up in New Jersey and have lived in Los Angeles for about 30 yrs and agree the best pizza pies are found in NJ/NY area.
But if you happen to be in Los Angeles and in need for a pretty good pie, there is a place in East Hollywood called Desanos. They have wood burning brick ovens they imported from Naples. Pies with excellent thin crust.

This classic rendition of "That's Amore" sung by Dean Martin settles the issue completely.

The song has ZERO to do with communism. What the OP should have said is that Dean (and The Rat Pack as a whole) was accused of being communist. Listen to the lyrics for crying and you'll get a good laugh at yourself buddy (OP).

I can eat pizza, just can't eat the crust. Which is an issue at Strawberry's Pub where the crust is great, but less of an issue at Sciortino's where it's good, but the sauce is really the most distinguishing feature, followed by the ground sausage.

Surprising that Strawberry's Pub in Woodbridge hasn't been mentioned more often. I used to stop by for the 2 slices plus a pint for $ 5 deal.

If you're not eating the crust, you're not eating pizza - I've seen you scrape everything off the slice - that's an abomination, sorry.

Agreed. It's really good pizza.

The bacon-cheddar and Mexican pies, both of which have cheddar on them :) by the way, are unbelievably good. It's actually the only pizza I will eat left-over. Just toss a couple slices in the toaster oven and it's still awesome for the next few days.

What's the best pizza these days around the College Ave area? Always looking for a couple of slices when I get up there for a game. Anyone?

All of the the pizza joints on College Ave when I was in schools 5 years ago were pretty bad, and there's quite a few of them.

They're good drunk food but that's about it.
