Ongoing opponent watch

Northwestern and Nebraska at home are must-wins. If we drop either of those two then we need to balance it out with an unexpected resume win like Maryland or Ohio State. Nebraska on the road is a should-win. If we lose that then we need to balance it out with a win on the next level below (@Iowa or @Purdue or @Penn State).

4 games and teams to root for today...

Drexel vs UNCW
St Bonaventure @ Buffalo
UMass @ Akron
Seton Hall @ Depaul

Pitt beat Canisius at noon by 8

its probably the best we could hope for, we quite possibly could have lost all 4

UMass and St Bonnies are probably going to remain Q3...we just dont want them slipping into 4. Would be nice if Lafayette can stay Q3 but thats dicey

H:76-160 N:101-200 A:136-240

we can also hope that Nebby stays above 160 so the rac game is a Q3 and not 4.

but it looks like RU will have a plethora of Q1 and Q2 opportunities

we may have been undervaluing Minnesota....seems like they are coming together...Carr has 27 nearing end of game and they are up 5 on Purdue. He has emerged as a major difference maker for the Gophers

Meanwhile we may be overvaluing Purdue mainly because of their win over Virginia which looks like an aberration.

I watched most of the game, Carr does look really good but the defenders aren't very good. That skinny kid in particular. he was getting smoked. i think mathis and young could do a much better job on him.

Oturu is a problem. Big, quick and skilled.

this looks like its going to overtime. Minny really lost some composure toward the end there with shot selection, Purdue has all the mo and the home crowd

1.3 seconds and the only shot they get it a Williams half court shot. He should be the last person taking a shot like that. I know they weren't guarding him, but why was he in the game at that point in the first place?

OT

Little Pitino is a joke. He barely coaches, just whines to the refs all day.

this really is a critical swing game for both programs ncaa chances...neither team is as good as last year but they are good enough to rise near the ncaa bubble.

Minnesota is already 2-4 in quad 1 games and has a sos of 3. Purdue really needs this game as they have a just brutal stretch coming up

Minnesota has zero depth. All Oturu, Carr, and a little Kalscheur. Carr with eight turnovers tonight. I will be very disappointed if we lose to them at home. I think we should beat Purdue at home too.

Pitino whines a lot but it felt like they didn't get the benefit of the doubt on many calls down the stretch. We would've been ticked if those calls went against us.

Looked like 2 10-10 teams

LOL, welcome to the 2019-20 Big Ten season.

KenPom's current projected records have #9 Maryland finishing 12-8 and #109 Northwestern 5-15. Every team between them (9 total) is projected to finish between 9-11 and 11-9. That's everybody from #12 Michigan (11-9) to #48 Rutgers (9-11).

So most Big Ten games this season will end up looking like a couple 10-10 teams playing.

Our non-conference turned out to not be as bad as expected, but most of these are still just Q4 wins.

KenPom changes from the start of the year:

Bryant 325 to 199 (+126)
Stephen F. Austin 298 to 138 (+160)
UMass 240 to 185 (+55)
Lafayette 248 to 182 (+66)

Niagara, St. Bonaventure, Drexel, Pitt, and Seton Hall didn't stray too far from their pre-season number.

NJIT 139 to 265 (-126) is the only one to get a lot worse.

Who was the poster that stated Bryant looked a lot better than their preseason ranking after we played? :Laughing
