OT: 2018 New York Yankees season

Sanchez may be the laziest major league player I’ve ever seen. His laziness cost them twice tonight.
I've been watching the Yankees for over 40 years. I can't recall such ongoing laziness going unsanctioned. Benching a lazy player is hardly punishment, sending him down to the minors to work on his many issues is appropriate. Don't call him back until he has a different mindset and an improved sense of the strike zone. Maybe they can get Paul O'Neill or Mr. Miyagi to work with that meathead for a few weeks.

Wow, just saw both plays. He oughta be flogged for that behavior.
When he was in the minors I read things that should have been enough warning for the Yanks. Like being suspend ed for a week
for refusing to warm up a pitcher. He didn't think it was his job. there was also several other incidents with him. Could have gotten
some good players for him.

Clearly cost them the game, what a lazy dog.

Zach Britton to Yankees?? Is this just so Boston and Astros can't get him?
Turn Green into starter??

I personally like the move. The game seems to be moving towards battle of the bullpens especially come playoff time. Adding another arm will be key if they make a deep run.

Does Britton Save more games the rest of the season as a Yankee then he would have as an O?? Even with Chappie??

Good deal if it is finalized, gave up little. Better to beef up the pen instead of waste prospects on a mediocre starter. And yes, Green can we stretched to pitch 4-5 innings.

Deal done late last night. I think this more playing keep away from Boston and Houston. Probably Yankees biggest strength.

Part of it is keep away but I don't believe that's the primary reason. Britton replaces Chasen Shreve as a far more competent lefty specialist. Brian Cashman said earlier in the season that because the roster had many desirable prospects on it, he would look to trade some of it before the season was done. This is because the Yankees can only protect a limited amount of players when the Rule 5 Draft takes place after the season. Yanks would have been losing prospects like the guys they traded away, so this "bundling" of guys helps to mitigate that AND get a quality guy in return. He can be a difference maker. He's also another option out of the bullpen to close games IF Aroldis Chapman has lingering problems.

Was listening to Cashman talking about that yesterday and it makes sense to a point. Tate was the biggest piece, I doubt was in danger of the Rule 5 draft plucking next winter. But clears spots for others to move up.
Like the pickup. Doesn't get rid of the elephant in the room as starting pitching is a must get. Maybe Britton is here as trade bait or opens the door to trade another reliever to aquire a starter. Just have this feeling this is the first domino of future deals.

Britton will be here to stay in 2018. Yanks may decide to re-up him since David Robertson becomes a free agent after the season. Good lefty specialist are hard to come by and I don't think Yanks will just let him walk without making an offer.

Brian Cashman has been pretty disciplined for multiple seasons now ignoring what sports media, fans, talking heads think he should do. If he can make a reasonable deal for a stud pitcher, he will. But he won't be held up. He'll walk away if he has to. He's in the driver's seat here. If no other trades happen, the Yanks could still go to war with what they have.

But what he does do well is pick up what appears to be a minor deal and making that have positive impact. So while everyone's staring at the "big deal" that is suppose to change everything, he goes to the other end and makes a deal for a "B" performing player to replace a "C" performing player on the roster which also provides a positive impact.

Think Jamie Garcia obtained as a "minor deal" after the more publicized Sonny Gray deal last year. Garcia filled in very nicely during the season. He wasn't stellar but most times he was competent enough and that helped the pitching staff stay out of "hair-on-fire" mode.. especially when more starters got hurt in August and September. So don't be surprised if a deal for a J.A. Happ or Cole Hamels or similar names in the news gets replaced at the last second by a starter from a team that no one saw coming.

Nathan Eovaldi. He spent two years at the back of the Yankees rotation in '15 and '16, then needed Tommy John, and the Yanks didn't re-up him. Yanks weren't interested in him.

Edit: He pitched against the Yanks once this year for Tampa, went 7 1/3 innings and gave up 5 earned runs.

That was a joke. :)

Can they beat Oakland in the wild card game? The A's lead the majors in HR's on the road.

Okay....They don’t have a single pitcher in the top 10 wins, saves, or strikeouts And overall their top picture is currently ranked 22nd in the American League.

Question for the board: If you could swap Sanchez and a random minor leaguer for an above average pitcher, would you do it? I would.

I would try to get more first, I believe we could, but if this is what it would come down to the answer is yes. I firmly believe
he has negative effect on the team, with his attitude, arguing with the pitchers, bad defense, not playing all out, and let us not forget his one week suspension in the minors for an acumulated amount of infractions. This team had such a great atmosphere at one
time but the players, management, and fans are tired of his crap at best, he is a big distraction.

No.
He's too talented. And the bad stuff can be fixed.

The bad stuff should have been fixed years ago. He has been labeled lazy, poor work ethic his entire pro career. If he doesn't have the desire to put the work in how is it going to change? The talent is there, his heart to become better isn't.

Sanchez is the key to the lineup. When he goes, it will take the pressure off the others.

So your looking to replace an all start catcher after a half dozen games?

^^ I got flogged here for questioning Sanchez' abilities early in the season. He had one good season, but has always been a defensive liability. Maybe he will turn it around. Always thought Romine was a better all around player.
